We will be having a special Youth Mass honoring our graduating Seniors. Immediately following the Mass we have a BBQ luncheon over at the Parish Center. Please watch for the details in email & snail mail! Page Three St. Joseph’s Church, Camillus, New York Parent Prayer at First Communion We are in the process of winding down our “Faith in Action” Campaign. We can all see the very visible results around our facility: ♦ New lighting ♦ New windows ♦ Multipurpose room with a lift making our facility handicap accessible also the new location for the food pantry ♦ New vestibules at the North & South entrances All this is a result of the generosity and sacrifice of so many in our parish over the past few years. Many went beyond their initial pledges and have continued to give through the buff colored “Capital Campaign” envelope that comes in our monthly envelope packet. Most of us try to put some of our income aside for needs that will come up in the future—some expected, some unexpected. To that end, and after discussion with the Finance Committee and the Parish Council, I have decided to continue to invite people to use that monthly envelope with one slight change. From the beginning of August the envelope will be called “Capital Improvements”. This change will help us as a parish to plan responsibly for the ongoing maintenance of our facilities. As was done with the Capital Campaign we will look at our entire campus and prioritize the needs. We can also refer to the comprehensive engineering study performed at the start of our capital campaign to help identify remaining areas that need attention. We won’t be able to perfectly forecast every “rainy day” that will come our way, but we hope to be ready for most ongoing needs. Again thank you for helping out your parish in so many different ways. God Bless, Peter Heavenly Father, This weekend my child has received the Eucharist for the first time. A lot of preparation has gone into this day, both at the parish and at home. We are blessed to have family and friends with us to commemorate this special moment. I pray that all the hoopla does not obscure the true meaning of this day for any of us-----children and adults. My child has encountered the gift of your Son in a most extraordinary way-------joined with the apostles at the Last Supper. May this milestone in our children's lives help all of us revisit the powerful gift that the Eucharist is. May we adults recognize as parents what the heavenly Parent has given us through his Son. May we all grow in grace and wisdom in our encounters with Christ in the Eucharist in the future. Thank you Lord for listening to me –help me to listen to you. Amen God, grant me the serenity to accept the people I cannot change, which is pretty much everyone, since I’m clearly not you, God. At least not the last time I checked. And while you’re at it, God, please give me the courage to change what I need to change about myself, which is frankly a lot, since, once again, I’m not you, which means I’m not perfect. It’s better for me to focus on changing myself than to worry about changing other people, who, as you’ll no doubt remember me saying, I can’t change anyway. Finally, give me the wisdom to just shut up whenever I think that I’m clearly smarter than everyone else in the room, that no one knows what they’re talking about except me, or that I alone have all the answers. Basically, God, grant me the wisdom to remember that I’m not you. Amen James Martin, SJ Page Four St. Joseph’s Church, Camillus, New York YOUTH MINISTRY Youth Ministry/Confirmation Sun. Anyone who heard him at Mass &/or at his evening presentations thoroughly enjoyed his music, his stories and his “real” sense of what we should be as today’s Catholics in our daily lives and in this sometimes, “crazy world.” He spoke to all ages and especially at the Sunday evening’s presentation; those that attended were able to experience a small sense of what it’s like when we go to those inspirational conferences, youth & otherwise! Many of you have requested to have Steve come back again and it’s definitely something we will keep in the works. Sister Margaret had spent weeks preparing the second grade children for their first Communion, stressing the solemnity and importance of this sacrament. Much to her chagrin, during Mass on the big day, one boy in the front row was talking and giggling nonstop. Finally, unable to put up with it any longer, she whispered to the lad seated next to her, "Please go up there and tell that one he's done enough talking and had better stop, right now!" Without question, the boy rose and walked to the front and delivered Sister Margaret's message to the surprised priest in the middle of his homily! The Preschool Breakfast with Dad and Dad and Me Ice Cream Social events on April 23rd and 24th were a hit! Thank you to both Byrne Dairy and Wegmans for their generous contributions to these! Tweets by Pope Francis: April 28: Every Christian community must be a welcoming home for those searching for God, for those searching for a brother or sister to listen to them. April 23: In the Sacraments we discover the strength to think and to act according to the Gospel. Page Five St. Joseph’s Church, Camillus, New York First Communion Poem May angels lead you along the way. On this your First Communion Day. EUCHARISTIC ADORATION The gift of the Eucharist has endured as the Church’s greatest treasure. For over two thousand years the Eucharist has been the subject of blessings and battles, of holiness and heresy. Through it all, since that supper among friends in the Upper Room, the Eucharist has remained faithfully and powerfully present. The gift of Jesus Himself remains with us to this day and is the source and summit of our lives as Christians and especially as followers of Jesus. How fitting it is, then, to come into His Presence to seek His peace and graces through Eucharistic Adoration.! The Adoration chapel is located at the east entrance of the church and is open M-F from 6:30am- 9pm, Sat 6:30am-12noon and Sun 1- 9pm. All are welcome!
