JUNE 2016 SHOW & TELL DISCUSSION: CASE TRIMMERS This month, we compare some of the different case trimmers that were brought to the March club meeting. Giraud Power Trimmer. Forster Products Original Trimmer. Members exchanging tips on the trimmers. RCBS Trim Pro-2 Case Trimmer. First, we review the Cadillac of case trimmers, the Giraud Power Trimmer. This trimmer is popular and very easy to use since it indexes the neck cut from the shoulder, meaning that you are getting somewhat consistent results from case to case. The biggest advantage this trimmer has is its speed. It can trim, chamfer and debur a case neck in just a second. This can save the reloader a lot of time, especially if there are large amounts of cases being trimmed. The Giraud handles a large range of calibers and with the carbide blade, wearing out is not that much of a concern. Changing calibers is convenient with the simple swap of each head for each specific caliber. Cost $460. The next trimmer discussed was the Forster Products Original Trimmer. This trimmer, at only $104.00 is quite reasonable. It indexes the neck cut from the base, which is arguably more consistent that the Giraud, but it takes a lot longer per case to complete a trim. The Forster does have the option of adding a 3-in-1 case trimmer head, which alleviates the need for the arduous deburring/chamfering tool use. Each kit comes with a variety of neck collets and can handle multiple calibers. The last trimmer we reviewed was the RCBS Trim Pro-2 Case Trimmer. This trimmer has the slight advantage over the Forster in speed since the base is held by a lever action system. The manual kit is $120 but if you want more speed case to case, you can upgrade and get the RCBS Trim Pro-2 Power Case Trimmer kit at $299.99. You can also get just the power unit at $190 if you already have an existing RCBS Trim Pro Case Trimmer. Like the Forster you can get a 3-in-1 head and this trimmer indexes off the base. So there you have it. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact myself or any of the Board of Directors. Special thanks to Chuck Neller and Monte Forbes for volunteering their machines for review and presentation. -Neil Gift NEXT CLUB MEETING Tuesday June 21st 2016 at 6PM Bonanza Casino (Branding Iron Cafe) 4720 North Virginia St Reno, NV 89506 !
