All ponies will show in the first round and the top 10 will return for the
second round. First round will have 2 option fences (sm/med 2’3) (lg 2’9).
Riders will earn 1 bonus point for each option fence jumped successfully.
The second round will be a handy round with 2 option fences. Scores will
be announced and exhibitors must ride for awards.

Northern California
Medal Challenge Finals
The USHJA Zone 10 Hunter Committee established an exciting
competition nine years ago for qualifiers of medal and equitation
classes 3’3 and under in Zone 10! The first and second place winners
of junior & amateur medal and equitation classes from all horse show
organizations will be eligible to compete in the Zone 10 Northern/
Southern Medal Challenge Finals. The Zone 10 Hunter Committee
uses these Challenges to promote an introduction to competing in a
USHJA/zone event for grassroots riders from all local associations by
inviting them compete head to head at a USEF licensed competition.
Two levels of competition are offered at the Challenges:
Class 700: 3’ Zone 10 Stirrup Cup
Medal Challenge
Entry Fee: $75
Champion receives a golf cart
Reserve Champion receives $1,000 shopping spree at Tack Warehouse
Third place wins a $500 shopping spree at Tack Warehouse
*Shopping spree may not be exchanged for cash
Will be held at 3’ and will be open to Junior & Amateur riders that
have placed first or second in ANY Equitation or Medal Class 3’3
or under during the current show year. Riders who have won
a 3’6 Medal Class are not eligible. Exhibitors may only show at
one Championship height, but may show in both the Northern &
Southern Medal Challenges.
Competition will consist of two rounds over fences for all riders
and additional testing of the top 5 (minimum) after the second
round. Scores from the 2 rounds and the test will be added
together to determine placings. Ties for 1st place only will work off.
All other ties will be broken by the score from the 2nd round.
2’6 Zone 10 Mini Medal Challenge

Jumper Divisions
In all Jumper classes, ties involving 1st place will jump off. Ties not involving 1st place will be
broken by the fastest time in the first round. Jumping orders will be drawn and posted in
accordance with USEF rules. Jumper ring is 144’ x 300’ sand footing. For purpose of clarification,
each jumper division has been assigned a specific height level.

Class 310. Cloverleaf Medal Finals - $75
Open to Junior and Amateur riders that have earned at least 6 points in qualifying
classes from October 2015 to October 2016. Riders may not be showing in any classes
over 3’7 at this show nor have shown over 3’11 for the last 5 years. The finals will
consist of 2 rounds over jumper fences over a jumper course with a jumper type ride
expected. Judged on hands, seat, guidance and control of the horse. A jumper type
horse and jumper equipment is allowed and will not be penalized. A tone/whistle will
be used to signal the rider to start their course but no time allowed will be used. After
the second round, a minimum of 5 riders will return for additional/final testing.
After the finals, meet with the
judges and ask about your ride
Winner of the Finals will receive a GOLF CART AND A COOLER.
Reserve Champion will receive a
$1,000 SHOPPING SPREE AT TACK WAREHOUSE.
Third Place wins a $500 SHOPPING SPREE AT TACK WAREHOUSE
Prizes through 10th place. Shopping sprees can not be exchanged for cash.

over hunter or jumper type fences, 2’9 in height.
Three riders must enter for the class to count. Any
rider showing in classes with fences over 3’3 in
height at this show may not show in the medal. The
course must include a combination, two changes
of direction and two tests built into the course, i.e.
halt, back, etc. Additional testing is at the judge’s
discretion. Points will be awarded 10, 6, 4, 2, 1, 1/2
and 10 points are needed to qualify for the finals,
held in July.
ASPCA/NHSA McCLAY MEDAL, 17/under: To
be judged on hands, seat, guidance and control of
the horse. All contestants are required to perform
over at least eight fences not exceeding 3’6 with
or without wings. A minimum of twelve riders, if
available, are required to show at the walk, trot and
canter. The Under Saddle performance of those
riders selected to show Under Saddle shall count
50%. Only one rider per horse. (USEF) Tests 1-19)
Six riders must complete the course.
CPHA child/adult MEDAL: This class is
open to child and adult riders who in the past 10
years have not won any medal, equitation, hunter
or jumper class with fences set at 3’3 or higher. In
addition, any rider who has competed in any classes
set at 3’6 or higher is not eligible for this class.
Trainers and riders must be members of CPHA prior
to competing. Class will be held at 3’, minimum of 8
fences with at least two changes of direction and a
combination. At least two riders shall work off using
USEF tests 1-8. Riders must complete the course.
Cloverleaf Equitation - Open to junior and
amateur riders not showing in any classes over 3’7.
To be judged over a jumper course of not less than
9 fences at 3’ in height. To be judged on hands, seat,
guidance, and control of the horse on a jumper type
of ride. There will not be a time allowed, a tone will
be used to signal the rider to start the course. Any
jumper type bit or equipment is allowed. Jumping
penalties will be considered in accordance with
USEF equitation rules. Additional work offs after
the initial round will be at the judges discretion and
any number of riders may be asked to test. At least
3 riders must enter and compete in the class. First
and second place will qualify for the finals. Points
awarded 10-6-4-2-1-1/2. Winner of the medal final
class will receive a golf cart and a cooler. Prizes to
10th in the finals.
Foxfield Medal - 18/over - Only one rider per
horse. Three competitors must complete the course
for points to count. The class is to be judged over a
figure eight course of 3’3 fences. Two or more tests
of the top three or four contestants are required. Ten
points qualifies for the finals.
Hudson & Company Jr/Am Medal - To be
shown over a course of hunter or jumper fences
approximately 3’3 in height with flat work
incorporated into the course.No work-off required
but further testing at the judge’s discretion. (USEF
1-19). Points awarded to the top 8 riders (8, 7, 6, 5, 4,
3, 2, 1). 6 points to qualify for the finals. Five riders
must complete the course.
NorCal Junior and Senior Medals - Open to junior/
amateur members of NorCal. Trainers of contestants
must also be members. To be shown over a course of
not less than 8 fences, 3’6 in height. Either hunter or
jumper type fences may be used. The course must
include 2 changes of direction, and a combination
containing an oxer. No triple combinations, water
jumps or liverpools are allowed. Two or more tests
of the top 4 riders are required. (Test 1-19). Five
or more riders must complete the course for the
medal to be awarded, and points will count 7, 5, 4,
3, 2, 1. Seven points qualifies a rider for the Finals,
but winners may continue to compete in the class
throughout the year. If fewer than 5 riders complete
the course, no medal will be awarded but points will
be awarded as follows: 4 riders - 5, 3, 2, 1; 3 riders
- 4, 3, 1; if fewer than 3 riders complete the course
no points will be awarded. If either the Junior or
Senior medal classes do not fill, management may
combine the classes if this will meet the minimum
requirements.
NorCal Pony Medal - open to junior members
of NorCal. Trainers of contestants must also be
members. To be shown over a course of not less
than 6 hunter type fences. Fence heights and
age requirements will be according to USEF
specifications for small, medium, and large ponies.
Suitability of pony to rider will be emphasized. The
course must contain at least one change of direction,
and will include at least two tests (USEF 1-9). No
work-off is required. Five riders must complete the
course for the medal to be awarded and points will
count 7, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. Seven points qualifies a rider
for the Finals, but winners may continue to compete
in the class throughout the year. Riders in this class
may not compete in the NorCal Junior Medal at
the same show. If fewer than 5 complete the course,
points will be awarded the same as for the Junior
and Senior Medals.
NorCal 3’ Medal - open to juniors and amateurs
who have not won a 3’6 medal in the preceding 5
years and who are not showing 3’6 medals at this
show. Trainers of contestants must also be members.
Same specifications as the Junior and Senior medals,
with the exception that fences shall be 3’. Workoff for the top 4 riders mandatory. Points will be
awarded the same as for the Junior and Senior
Medals, 7 points needed to qualify for the finals.
Winners may continue to compete in the class
throughout the year.
FOXFIELD 12 & UNDER MEDAL: Open to riders
12 years of age and under. To show over an equitation
type course at 2’9”, combinations allowed. Three
riders must enter for the class to count as a qualifier
for the finals. Points awarded 10, 6, 2, 1, 1/2. Firs
and second place will qualify for the finals. When 6
points are accumulated the rider is then qualified for
the finals. After the first round a minimum of two
riders (more at the judges discretion) will be asked
to perform additional testing. Riders showing higher
than 3’ at this show are not eligible for this class.
Once riders advance to 3’6” they are not eligible for
this class. Riders may continue to show in this class
after they have qualified for the finals. The first finals
will not be held until 2017 and the finals will winner
will receive an all expense paid trip to Foxfield Riding
School. Also, if a rider is 12 when they qualify in
2016, they will be allowed to compete in the first
finals in 2017.
PCHA Horsemanship-14/under-35/over - this
is an intermediate equitation class for riders 14
and under or 35 and over who are current PCHA
members. A rider who will not be 14 (horse show
age) or under on the date of the Finals may not
compete in the class. To be held over a course of at
least 8 fences approximately 3’3 in height. Hunter
type fences are encouraged. One combination must
be included and at least two changes of direction
with two test included as part of the original course.
No work off is required but further testing is at the
judge’s discretion. To fill a class three riders must
complete the course. Riders may qualify by earning
12 points or by winning a class of 5 or more entries.
Regardless of how many points he/she accumulates,
a rider can continue to compete in qualifying classes
until he/she has won a class of five or more entries.
Horse & Hound Jr/Am Medal: Open to all
junior and amateur riders who have not won a 3’6
medal finals in the previous 3 years and who are not
showing 3’6 or higher at this show. To be shown over
a hunter or jumper course of 3’ fences with 2 tests
included. 5 riders fill. Points awarded 7, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.
If only 4 finish, points will be awarded 5, 3, 2, 1. 5
points qualifies for the finals in Oct. A sterling silver
jumping horse pendant will be presented to the
winner of a qualifying class with 5 or more entries.
Classes with 15 or more entries will be pointed 10,
8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2. Five points qualifies for the finals.
Previous winners of the Horse & Hound Jr/Am
medal finals are no longer eligible to compete.
Horse & Hound Pony Medal - To be shown over a
course of fences (Sm/Med to jump 2’3, Lg to jump
2’6) with 2 tests included.
SAHJA Pony Medal - open to junior riders showing
ponies (14.2 hands and under). To be judged over a
course of fences ranging from 2’ to 2’6 in height with
two USEF tests (1-9) incorporated in the course.
There is no work-off.
SAHJA Mini Medal - open to any junior or amateur
rider who has not won a 3’6 rated medal class or any
medal finals, except the SAHJA Pony Medal. Riders
to be judged over a course of fences 2’6 in height
with at least two USEF tests (1-19) incorporated into
the course. There is no work off.
SAHJA Mini Stirrup - Open to all Jr/Am riders
who have never shown 2’ or above (short, med, long
stirrup). To be shown over a cross rail course of 18”.
Trotting allowed. Rider does not have to be a SAHJA
member to enter.
SAHJA Child/Adult Medal - open to any junior or
amateur rider who has not won a 3’6 rated medal
finals. Riders to be judged over a course of fences 3’0
in height. At least the top 4 riders over fences will
return for a flat work-off.
USEF Junior Hunt Seat Medal - open to junior
members of USEF who have not yet reached their
18th birthday. To be held over a course of fences of
not less than 8 obstacles at 3’6. Two or more tests of
the top 4 competitors are required. Only one rider
per horse. To fill, six competitors must complete the
course.
USEF Adult Equitation - open to Amateur senior
members of the USEF. To be held over a course of
not less than 8 obstacles at 3’3. Two or more tests
of the top 4 competitors are required. Only 1 rider
per horse. To fill, six competitors must complete the
course.
Usef Pony Equitation: Open to junior members
of USEF who have not reached 18th birthday on
ponies 14.2 hands under. Riders in this class cannot
cross enter the USEF Jr. Medal at same show. Two
tests included in the course. For class to count six
riders must complete the course.
2016 Zone 10 Specifications
(CA, NV)
In accordance with GR1111.4: All members may compete for Zone Awards
or money in any state contiguous to Zone 10: OR, ID, UT, AZ.
ADULT AMATEUR HUNTERS
Eligibility: To be ridden by exhibitors who have
reached their 18th birthday by December 1 of the
current competition year and who hold a current USEF
Amateur certification. Open to horses and ponies.
Cross Entry: Horses or riders may not cross enter
into any Amateur Owner hunter class (at the same
show). Riders may not cross enter into First Year,
Second Year or High Performance Working Hunter
at the same show. Adult Amateur Riders may not
cross enter into any class at the same show with fences
exceeding 3’3 except Adult Amateur Jumpers, Junior/
Amateur Modified Jumpers, Equitation and Medal
Classes, and the USHJA National Hunter Derby. An
Adult Amateur rider may ride an Amateur Owner
Hunter in the A/O Hunter Under Saddle Class for an
Amateur Owner rider that has more than one horse
entered. No cross entry restrictions at one-day shows.
Judging: To be judged on performance and
soundness, suitability to count.
Height of Fences: 3’0; spreads not to exceed fence
height.
Combining/Dividing Sections: Adult Amateur,

Rules and General
Information
Life, senior active and junior active members shall be eligible to participate in
all classes at Regular Competitions, Eventing Competitions at the Preliminary
Level or above and Combined Driving Competitions at the Advanced Level,
Dressage, Reining and Vaulting Competitions and Endurance Rides. A
nonmember may participate as a handler, rider, driver, owner, lessee, agent,
coach or trainer at Regular Competitions, Eventing Competitions, Dressage
Competitions, Reining Competitions and Combined Driving Competitions
upon payment of a $30 nonmember SHOW PASS fee. Participants in the following
classes are exempted from the Requirements of this rule: 1) leadline; 2)
exhibitions; 3) games and races; 4) classes for 4-H members; 5) walk trot
and academy classes (academy classes are classes limited to horses used
regularly in a lesson program); 6) USDF introductory level tests, pas de deux
and quadrille classes; 7) NRHA Endorsed Reining Competitions. 8) Opportunity
classes, 9) citizens of other nations who have proof, in English, of current
membership in good standing of their own National Federation, 10) USEA
beginner novice division; and 11) assistant handlers in Dressage Sport Horse
Breeding classes.
EVERY CLASS OFFERED HEREIN WHICH IS COVERED BY THE RULES AND SPECIFICATIONS
OF THE CURRENT US EQUESTRIAN FEDERATION RULE BOOK WILL BE CONDUCTED
AND JUDGED IN ACCORDANCE THEREWITH
MANAGEMENT: The Horse Show Management
reserves the right to interpret all questions and
conditions in regard to, or arising out of, or
incident to the show without claims for damages
or recourse of any kind. All questions not covered
in these rules and regulations shall be decided by
Horse Show Management, their decision to be
final. The Horse Show Management reserves to
itself the right to refuse, accept conditionally, or
cancel any entries, disqualify riders or exhibitors,
prohibit exhibition of entries and cancel award
prizes, without claim for damages; to cancel
or combine any unfilled classes; to change any
course; to change rings or rotate judges; to
change specifications in jumper classes in order
to facilitate the time schedule, or to reschedule
classes as competition warrants. Management
reserves the right to limit entries at its discretion.
CONDITION OF ENTRY: Every horse
entered herein for competition will be under
control of the Horse Show Management, but
management will in no case be responsible for
any loss or damage that may occur, and it shall
be a condition of entry that each exhibitor shall
hold the Horse Show, it’s directors, employees,
officials, sponsoring entities, Let’s Show, and
Brookside Equestrian Park, harmless for any
loss or accident to his horse(s), equipment, or
employee(s), which may occur from sickness, fire
or other cause. All owners and exhibitors shall
be responsible for any damage incurred by them,
their agents or employees to stalls, buildings, and
other properties on the show grounds and shall
be billed accordingly.
ENTRY PROCEDURE: For each horse entered
send $200 per stall/tack room requested. Entry
blanks must be filled out completely, including
horse name and complete description, all
classes entered, all mandatory signatures and
organizational membership numbers. Nonmember fees will be assessed if membership
numbers are not provided. Entry blanks must be
postmarked on or before the closing date of Friday,
September 23, 2016. Entries postmarked after the
closing date of entries will pay a $30 late fee.
ADD-SCRATCH POLICY: Classes that are
scratched in the Horse Show Office the day before
the class is scheduled receive a full refund. Classes
scratched the day of the class receive a credit
to be used against any adds after the number is
picked up. (No refund on unused credit unless it
can be applied to another horse under the same
ownership.)
POST ENTRIES: Any entry postmarked after
Friday, September 23, 2016 is considered a post
entry and will pay a late fee of $30. Post entries
in classes will be accepted at management’s
discretion. A $5 per class post entry fee will be
charged for all classes added after the horse’s
number has been picked up. The post entry fee
will be refunded on classes scratched the day
before the class is to be held.
ENTRY BLANKS: Care should be taken to
enter each horse in its proper division or class.
Exhibitors are responsible for their errors and
those of their agents in completing entry blanks.
In all cases the description on the entry blank must
fully identify the horse. The word “entry” shall not
be accepted. Stipulations for entry blank:
1. Be properly signed and in the case of a minor,
be signed by a parent or guardian.
2. Be made on an entry blank provided by the
show.
3. Show the correct mailing address of the
owner.
4. Social Security number must be on the entry
blank.
5. Include copy of USEF membership card or
sign affidavit and pay $30 show pass fee for
each owner, lessee, agent, trainer, and rider.
6. Include a copy of USHJA membership card
or sign affidavit and pay a $30 show pass fee
for each owner, lessee, agent, trainer, and
rider.
7. Include all additional membership numbers
and birth dates of junior and amateur riders.
Please attach photocopies of USEF Amateur
cards, USEF pony measurement cards, or
USEF Junior Hunter cards as applicable for
entries.
8. Include USEF Horse Recording number for
horses in Jumper classes requiring number.
REFUNDS: Before the closing date of entries,
full refunds will be given. After the closing date,
with veterinarian or doctor’s certificate, refunds
will be given less a $25 office charge, and less fees
applied prior to notification at the Horse Show
Office, whether exhibited in or not. Stall fees may
be refunded if canceled by September 23, 2016.
MINOR EXHIBITORS: Parents or guardians of
minor exhibitors shall hold Brookside Equestrian
Park and show management harmless for injury
to such minor. No child’s entry will be accepted or
number issued unless the entry is signed by a parent
or guardian.
PRIZES: Awards to 1st and ribbons 1st-8th in
open hunter classes, 1st – 8th in junior, amateur,
and pony classes unless otherwise specified.
Jumpers receive awards to 1st and ribbons 1st6th. Prize money will be paid by check to the
owners within thirty (30) days of the show’s
conclusion. Prize money will not be mailed
unless the owner’s Social Security number is
listed on the entry blank. All money classes under
$500 will be divided 30%, 25%, 20%, 15%, 10%.
All $500 prize money classes will be paid: $150,
$100, $75, $65, $60, $50. All $1,000 and over
prize money classes will be paid: 30%, 22%, 15%,
10%, 7%, 6%, 5%, 5%.
UNPAID CHARGES: If show management
or show official (i.e. farrier, veterinarian, feed
supplier, etc.) must bill an exhibitor for unpaid
charges, a $25 billing fee will be added to the
amount due.
RETURNED CHECKS: Checks returned by
the bank for any reason are regarded as a most
serious offense and will be handled as follow:
All returned checks will be charged 10% of the
amount of the check ($25 minimum). Accounts
will be given ten (10) days to be paid in full with
cash or money order, or they will be turned
into the sanctioning organizations for further
disciplinary action.
STABLING: Stalls, whether occupied by horses,
feed, or tack will be available for $200 each.,
no bedding included. Stalls are of temporary
construction, wood or canvas, 10’ x 10’ with
doors. No straw allowed, any exhibitor using
straw will be assessed an additional charge.
Exhibitors are responsible for the condition of
stalls upon departure. Anyone dismantling or
causing damage to stalls will be assessed a charge
of $100 per panel.
FEED AND BEDDING: Should be ordered
directly from Brookside Equestrian Park
(916) 682-1403.
MOTORIZED VEHICLES: In accordance with
GR1301.7: Minors who do not have a valid driver’s
license which allows them to operate a motorized
vehicle in the state in which they reside will not
be permitted to operate a motorized vehicle of
any kind, including, but not limited to, golf carts,
motorcycles, scooters, or farm utility vehicles, on
the competition grounds of licensed competitions.
Minors who have a valid temporary license may
operate the above described motorized vehicles
as long as they are accompanied by an adult
with a valid driver’s license. The parent(s), legal
guardian(s), or individual who signs the entry
blank as a parent or guardian of a minor operating
a motorized vehicle in violation of this rule are
solely responsible for the child committing the
offense. Violations of this rule will be cause for
sanctions against the parent(s), guardian(s) and/
or trainer(s) who are responsible for the child
committing the offense. Penalties may include
exclusion of the child, parent(s), guardian(s),
and/or trainer(s) from the competition grounds
for the remainder of the competition and charges
being filed against any of the above individuals in
accordance with Chapter 6. Wheelchairs and other
mobility assistance devices for individuals with
disabilities are exempt from this rule.
RV’S: RV reservations must be booked directly
through Brookside Show Park at 916-682-1403.
Fifteen Amp service is available on a first come,
first served bases. RVs must have a valid RV
permit displayed. RV fee is $200 for the duration
of the event; payable on your horse show entry.
PARKING: Horse trailers and autos will be
parked in designated areas. Absolutely no autos
will be allowed in barn area or barn aisles.
GROUNDS FEE: All horses entering the show
and not using a stall will pay a $50 per day
grounds fee to offset facility cost, clean-up and
amenities.
NON-SHOWING HORSES: For any horse
on the grounds not officially entered, owner or
trainer of said horse must complete a “Not to
Show” form and sign a release at the Horse Show
Office, and pay a $25 office fee plus a $50 nonshowing fee and stall fees, if applicable.
DOGS: Dogs must remain in the barn area,
they will not be allowed near the competition
arenas. All dogs must be restrained at all times
while on the show grounds. Unrestrained dogs
create a serious safety hazard to exhibitors
and their horses. Loose dogs will be picked up
and detained until owner has paid a $25 fine.
Refusal to pay the fine may bar the competitor
from further participation in the show and no
refunds of entry or stall fess will be considered.
Additional infractions may result in being barred
from showing, expelled from the grounds, or
management may call Animal Control to have
the animal removed from the premises.
ATTIRE: All persons at Federation licensed
hunter, jumper or hunter/jumper competitions
in all Hunter, Jumper and Hunt Seat Equitation
classes, when mounted anywhere on the
competition grounds, must wear properly fastened
protective headgear which meets or exceeds ASTM
(American Society for Testing and Materials)/
SEI (Safety Equipment Institute) standards for
equestrian use and carries the SEI tag. It must be
properly fitted with harness secured. This rule,
effective April 1, 2012 puts the onus on parents
and trainers to make sure that all exhibitors wear
one of the 65 helmets that are currently approved
by the American Society of Testing Materials/
Safety Equipment Institute. Under the rule, judges,
stewards and show management are obligated to
check out helmets they suspect may not be ASTMSEI approved and to prevent all exhibitors from
competing if the helmet does not comply with the
new rule.
