The Neverland Ball will be held on Friday 11 September at Norths Leagues. Tickets are now on sale on the website:

three course meal, drinks, band and other entertainment on the night including live auctions.
Art Work
Each class is creating a piece of art work. The work will be on display in the multi-purpose room during the Neverland
Week and will be available for sale through our auction site.

Milo Cup Cricket
Congratulations to the students who represented our school at the Milo Cup this week. Thank you to Miss
Chapple and Mr Kessler for coaching the teams.
Navigator Student Magazine
Our first edition of the student magazine titled Navigator has been written for this year by a number of students in
Years 5 and 6. Thank you to Ms Carnegie for organising this initiative. Further information is on page 7 of this
Newsletter.
Earn and Learn
Our school is involved with the Woolworths Earn and Learn Program. If you collect stickers as part of this
program you are welcome to forward the sticker sheets to school. Collection boxes are also located at both
Woolworths stores in Neutral Bay.

Kindergarten News
Kindergarten had a lovely Open Day on Tuesday showing our parents, grandparents and friends around our
classrooms. We hope you enjoyed looking at our artwork and books and were entertained by our school concert.
Just a friendly reminder to parents of our ‘No hat, no play’ policy. Unfortunately if a child does not have a hat they will
have to stay in the quadrangle area under the COLA. Please help your child to remember their hats every day.

Stage 1 News (Years 1 & 2)
2C have great fun participating in Mathematics lessons. As part of trialling the Targeted Early Numeracy (TEN) program,
they have been building their skills and understanding of key mathematical concepts through a range of differentiated
games and technological activities. The lessons build on their current understanding of number and arithmetic
strategies.
As part of the Personal Development Health and Physical Education (PDHPE) program this term, Year 2 will be
participating in Child Protection educational activities and lessons.

Stage 2 News (Years 3 & 4)
On Thursday 30 July, Year 3 went on an excursion to The Rocks to learn about the settlement of Sydney. 3EC was
escorted around The Rocks by a very knowledgeable guide called Elda. Elda gave each student a name card on which
the name of a famous person related to Sydney’s settlement was listed (e.g., Arthur Phillip, Bennelong, Mary Reibey).
3EC enjoyed learning about some of the difficulties faced by the early settlers and the impact of white settlement on the
Gadigal people. A special thanks to the four parents who helped on the day.

Premier’s Reading Challenge

The Premier’s Reading Challenge for 2015 will close on August 21 this year. Students who are participating in this
year’s challenge will need to have their reading records finalised by this date in order to be eligible for their certificate
this year. Reading records and further details about the challenge can be located on the website

Netball Report
Neutral Bay's B Team, captained by Laura (6C) played Greenwich in a tough game on Friday. They lost 17 to 9 but
played very well as a team. They made sure they spread out across the court and communicated with each other.
Player of the match was awarded to Sassy from 6S.
The C#1 team continued their undefeated season so far against Willoughby, winning 21 to 4. The team captain, Lucy
(6C) noted that they showed fantastic team work skills and great passing. Player of the match went to Elouise (5R).
C#2 team defeated Lane Cove West in a tight match, coming away with a win of 13 to 10. Captain Sara (6T), says the
team worked well together and there was plenty of good shooting. Player of the match was awarded to Caitlan of 6C.
The C#3 team faced North Sydney, unfortunately losing for the first time this season, 12 to 2. However, the team's
captain, Ash F (6S) loved that the team improved on last week by spreading out and intercepting lots of balls. Player of
the match went to Stella (5R).
The D team, captained by Isabella (5R), played Greenwich, sadly being beaten 17 to 3. Whilst the team wants to work
on their defence skills, they were proud of their efforts. Player of the match was Cassandra in 5R.
The boy's team came up against Mosman, going down 16 to 1. Team captain, Yul (6S), was impressed with the team
spirit shown. He awarded Michael from 5M with player of the match.

Hello everybody
Another week of fun and teamwork in the canteen! Thanks to all our helpful volunteers.
Volunteers, we would love some help on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday next week. Your time and effort in
support of our wonderful canteen is much appreciated. Coffee, muffins, lunch, fun and the delight of your children await
you!
Next week (Week 5) our Mon-Thurs special is Hokkien Noodles, with Meat Pies and Sausage Rolls on Friday.
Other news:
If your children are involved in PSSA sport on Fridays – please DO NOT put in a lunch order for them. I know most of
you are aware of this already, thanks for your understanding.
We have had a couple of instances where the ordered lunch has been judged unfit by the child and not eaten, or has
not arrived. It would be helpful if you would tell your children to bring it back on the day in question. We cannot fix the
lunch if we don’t know about it. I know this is daunting for young kids especially, but the canteen team are friendly and
our job is to make sure your children have something to eat. We never let kids go hungry.
We also have had some children come to school with no lunch, only money to spend at the canteen. I’m not sure if
parents are aware that the items served over the counter are more suitable as extras to lunch, rather than lunch itself.
Flexischools is very easy to use, and has heaps of lunch options for ordering online. Please contact us if you need any
help with this.

Band News - Primary Proms!
Continuing the wonderful year that 2015 is turning out to be for the NBPS Band Program, we received very exciting
news last Friday. Concert Band has been selected by the Arts Unit to perform "Czardas" in the 2015 Primary Proms at
the Sydney Town Hall. Congratulations to all the children! "Czardas" is a traditional Hungarian folk dance characterised
by a change in tempo. It progresses from a slow beginning with vast tonal range through quickening tempo to a
grandiose finale with a festive atmosphere. It is a challenging piece for Year 5 and 6 students to play and Concert Band
should be very proud of their polished performance.
The band will play in the Coorong Concert at 7pm on Monday 14 September 2015. Tickets for these events sell very
quickly and bookings for this event are already open. If you wish to attend the concert, we strongly recommend you buy
tickets online as soon as possible at http://www.cityrecitalhall.com ($6 transaction fee). Be certain of the concert name,
date and time to avoid confusion. Concert Band musicians will not need a ticket, because they will be performing or
backstage.

A reminder that if you wish to order official photos of the bands at the NSW Festival of Bands the deadline is this Friday

Spare envelopes are in the pockets on the wall outside the band room in the school hall. Please make sure that
you take the correct envelope to ensure that you receive the photo that you are after (the envelopes are preprinted for Junior band, Senior Band and Concert Band)
You need to complete the details on the envelope (please include your child’s class number to assist with
distribution)
Place your money inside the envelope and return it to the "Band Folder" at the FRONT OFFICE by no later than
Friday 7 August (do not return to your child’s teacher)
One order for for all three bands will be placed to Advancedlife Photography on Monday August 10th
Photos take approximately three to four weeks to print and be returned to the school for distribution

Overall Band Co-ordinator - Vacancy for 2016
After 4 years of close involvement in the band program, spending one year as Senior Band Co-ordinators, one year as
Concert Band Co-ordinators and two years as Overall Band Co-ordinators, Liesel and I plan to focus on other areas of
our lives and will be resigning from our positions on the P&C Executive Committee at the AGM on 25 November 2015.
We are very proud to have been a part of the band committee at Neutral Bay and feel extremely fortunate that our
children have had the benefit of all the opportunities the band program provide. These range from the sheer enjoyment
and satisfaction of learning how to play an instrument and making great music with their peers to the excitement of
performing at community events, competitions, the Town Hall and the Opera House. It has been a real privilege to help
co-ordinate for a time such a long-standing, strong musical program which is highly valued by the school.
Liesel and I will still be at NBPS and will be readily available next year (if not in the playground, certainly by email) to
answer questions about the smooth running of the band program and historical issues - unsurprisingly in a program that
has lasted for 26 years we have found that many issues which arise have some relevant background. We are also
working on a detailed description of events in the band year and things that need doing for the incoming band
committee.
If you have the capacity to contribute to a wonderful band program and are interested in learning more, please get in
touch.

The Uniform Shop is open every Tuesday in term-time, from 8.30am-9.30am.
Flexischools orders are being packed and delivered daily. We aim to get the orders packed and delivered to you the day
after you order but occasionally delays will occur.
Contactless Payments Now Available!
Recently, the bank upgraded the shop's EFTPOS terminal to one that now accepts contactless payments (eg
PayPass™ and Tap & Go™ ). There will still be the option to pay the old-fashioned way though if you prefer. For more

Returns policy:
Flexischools purchases: please email me at [email protected] to let me know and then leave the item at

In store purchases: For exchanges, please email me at [email protected] to let me know and then leave
the item at the office with your details and I will process the exchange ASAP. For refunds, please come to the Uniform
Shop on a Tuesday morning with your original form of payment.
All returned items must be in saleable condition with tags still attached. Please note that I am not at the Uniform Shop all
of the time and that it may take a few days for me to action exchanges/refunds. Notifying me by email is a good way to
give me a heads up!

THE JOY HOUSE FILM FESTIVAL
For the first time, the Joy House Film Festival is offering FREE claymation workshops at The White Loft on

Sunday 16 August from 11am to 5pm.
Workshop participants are required to bring along their one page “joyous” story/script prepared beforehand,
along with their laptops and mobile phones, where they’ll learn how to create storyboards and plasticine
models, they will then film and edit their stories. These claymation stories will be part of the Joy House Film
Festival.

The Joy House Film Festival will be held on Sunday 13 September from 3-5pm at Hoyts Mandarin Centre,
corner of Albert and Victor streets, Chatswood. Here we’ll be showcasing the best short films of joy
(International & National) as well as the claymation short films.

Imagine if you could help someone to rise from their wheelchair and walk hand-in-hand with their children for
the first time in over 6 years. I’d like to ask YOU for some help to offer a ‘Glimmer of hope’ to my courageous
friend, , whose dream is to learn to walk again.
In 2009, then married 38 year old mother of two, Melissa Whiddett, suffered a devastating accident in her
Sydney home that left her with severe head and spinal injuries, resulting in her becoming a paraplegic.
Melissa’s closest friends and family have banded together to create a support network called ‘Glimmer’,
where we hope to help her achieve her biggest personal challenge yet – to learn to walk again.
We are on a mission to help Melissa grasp each and every Glimmer of hope in this quest. We have set up a
fund for Melissa where money raised will assist in sending her to the Kenneth Ware NeuroPhysics Institute
in Queensland. This Institute is credited for enabling former footballer John Maclean to walk again after 25
years in a wheelchair, and most recently injured league player Alex McKinnon started treatment on the
programme.
Melissa first visited this Institute in July 2015 to meet with Ken Ware and confirm her suitability for enrolment
into the Programme. Her experience is captured in a short video. Please view the video
