- News and Updates Hoodie and Jeans season is fast upon us. It feels like just last week the summer brochure was
published. We are looking forward to some great events this fall! It was a busy and productive
summer. Sunshine Camp had 34 unique campers with an average of 24 per day, we offered our first full
summer session of bowling and had 30 participants, our Tee-Ball team advanced to state, we had 650
people attend our Free Family Fun Night at Splashdown in July, 250 people attended our August
celebration of summer at Dragonland, and our 2nd year of flag football just started up. As always we
have new IRVSRA apparel for sale on page 20 of this brochure and please try to support our
fundraisers, especially the Kickball Tournament on September 17th.

Game
The Illinois River
Valley Special Recreation
Association (IRVSRA) is a
cooperative extension of
Pekin and Fon du Lac Park
Districts to provide
recreational programs and
leisure services for
individuals with
developmental disabilities.
Integrated and specialized
programs are available for
residents and nonresidents
with special needs.
Peer groups are
invaluable. IRVSRA provides
opportunities to individuals
with disabilities to surround
themselves with friends and
neighbors that share
commonalities. It is our
pleasure to provide these
athletic and social settings
for the special needs
population in the Tazewell
County area.

* * * Shuttles and Event Times * * *
This section is to explain ‘Shuttle’ Pickup and Drop Off times and locations
Riding the shuttle: You will be riding in an
IRVSRA Minibus or “Shuttle”. ‘Pickup’ is the
time that the shuttle leaves the meeting place.
It will pick participants up at the Pekin Park
Arena and/or the Fon du Lac Admin. Center.
You need to be there before the shuttle
leaves. ‘Drop Off’ is the time that the shuttle
arrives back to the park(s), ending the
program. We suggest you have a ride home
worked out with a guardian or IRVSRA ahead
of time.
Providing your own transportation: If
you have your own transportation, you can
meet the shuttle and chaperones at the
program ‘Location’ at the program
‘Time’. There is no need to meet at the
Fon du Lac Admin Center or Pekin Park
Arena. You are more than welcome to
meet the shuttle at the Pickup location and
time to caravan/follow the shuttle to the
event.

PROGRAMS
2016
HIGHLIGHTS
This is an event for the
whole community! Any one can join
in on the fun! There are two ways
to get involved with the first ever
“IRVSRA Let’s Play: Kickball”.
1. The first way is as an IRVSRA Participant.
You can play in the ‘Showcase Opening Game’ with
and against local celebrities and community leaders.
This option is a lot like our bowl-a-thon. To play in
this opening game, all you need to do is register for
the Kickball Tournament; then on Sept. 17th, show up
to play with at least $10 in donations from your
sponsor sheet. A blank sponsor/pledge sheet with
instructions can be found on pg. 19 of this brochure.
Extra blank sponsor sheets can be requested or
downloaded from the website.
2. The second way is by getting together 10 friends and/or family members to form a team
and pay the $200.00 entry fee. You can find a company or organization to sponsor your team or each
team member can pay $20.00. Entry forms can be found at www.playinforapurpose.com, on the front
page of www.irvsra.org, or picked up at the Pekin Park Rec. Office inside the Memorial Ice Arena.
All tournament teams that have paid their $200 entry fee will be entered into a double
elimination tournament with a chance to win a ‘Championship Trophy’. All money raised by this event
will be go directly to IRVSRA (Illinois River Valley Special Recreation Association).
IRVSRA Sept. Rummage Sale (Postponed)
This Event has been Postponed
until Spring 2017. We are still accepting donations
for this event. Please contact Casey or Shawna to
arrange a drop off.
Are you in need of a free physical and
new Dr. signed MedApp? You need one every 2
years if you play SOILL Sports. Special Olympics
Illinois is hosting a MedFest this fall. A parent or
guardian must be able to attend with the
participant or sign a blank MedApp to be sent
with the participant to the MedFest.

school-like routine and exercising their social skills with
peers and authority figures. Campers will enjoy indoor and
outdoor park amenities and activities (weather permitting).
Campers will be provided breakfast and snacks but will
need to bring a sack lunch with them each day. If your
camper is new to IRVSRA day camps, please contact Casey
for an intake evaluation to ensure we can appropriately
support your camper’s needs.
