- News and Updates It is time to go outside and get some fresh air with your IRVSRA friends. Register for your
favorite summer time Special Olympic Sport or try a new sport for the first time. Check out the new
changes to Sunshine Camp as we are offering it to more age groups for more hours of the day than ever
before! Be sure to register for the free events like the Fall Sports Banquet, Dragonland Pool Party,
Family Fun Night at Splashdown, which are possible due to your participation and fundraising efforts
throughout the year. You will notice more fundraising efforts in this brochure and we have big plans
instore for them, as well as the continuation of free events like the ones listed above. As you will find
out in this and future brochures, we have many new program ventures and exciting new opportunities
for IRVSRA in the coming months, so stay tuned. You won’t want to miss out!

Association (IRVSRA) is a
cooperative extension of
Pekin and Fon du Lac Park
Districts to provide
recreational programs and
leisure services for
individuals with
developmental disabilities.
Integrated and specialized
programs are available for
residents and nonresidents
with special needs.
Peer groups are
invaluable. IRVSRA provides
opportunities to individuals
with disabilities to surround
themselves with friends and
neighbors that share
commonalities. It is our
pleasure to provide these
athletic and social settings
for the special needs
population in the Tazewell
County area.

* * * Shuttles and Event Times * * *
This section is to explain ‘Shuttle’ Pickup and Drop Off times and locations
Riding the shuttle: You will be riding in an
IRVSRA Minibus or “Shuttle”. ‘Pickup’ is the
time that the shuttle leaves the meeting place.
It will pick participants up at the Pekin Park
Arena and/or the Fon du Lac Admin. Center.
You need to be there before the shuttle
leaves. ‘Drop Off’ is the time that the shuttle
arrives back to the park(s), ending the
program. We suggest you have a ride home
worked out with a guardian or IRVSRA ahead
of time.
Providing your own transportation: If
you have your own transportation, you can
meet the shuttle and chaperones at the
program ‘Location’ at the program
‘Time’. There is no need to meet at the
Fon du Lac Admin Center or Pekin Park
Arena. You are more than welcome to
meet the shuttle at the Pickup location and
time to caravan/follow the shuttle to the
event.

on how to check for cancellations due to
factors like weather or programs not meeting
their minimum registration numbers. We
have a number of methods to stay up to date.
Rainout Line:

Sunshine Camp
Summer Camp for ages 6 through adults
We are excited at the greater extent we will be
able to serve families this year with longer camp hours
and more age groups.
The new and improved Sunshine Camp is a day
camp designed specifically for individuals with
developmental disabilities. Age and skill appropriate
activities are designed to meet the needs of the campers.
Campers will have a safe place among their peers
with opportunities to work on crafts, play games, dance,
go to Putt Dragon Golf, swim or play in the sand at
Dragonland, use paddle boats on the lagoon, play the Wii
or Minecraft on PC, picnic, and go on field trips around
the community! All registrants are subject to an intake
interview with parent/guardian or a recommendation
from their Special Education Teacher.
Mid Day Campers will need to bring a sack
lunch and drink with them every day, their Sunshine
Camp Shirts on field trip days, and swim suit, towel, and
sunscreen on Dragonland days. A small Snack will be
provided at 2:30pm.
All Day Campers will be provided a breakfast
between 7:00am-8:30am and another small snack at
2:30pm. They will need to bring a sack lunch and drink
with them every day, their Sunshine Camp Shirts on field
trip days, and swim suit, towel, and sunscreen on
Dragonland days.
The registration fee includes one free camp shirt
that must be worn on field trip days. More are available
for purchase and should a camper forget their shirt on a
field trip day, another one will be provided and charged
to their account. This program has 11 one-week
sessions throughout the summer and is staffed with a
counselor to camper ratio of 1:4.

IRVSRA’s annual softball and tee ball
play day. Over a dozen SRA ball teams from
around the area come and play. Come watch
and cheer on our teams as we play games to
practice for Special Olympic District
Tournament in July! Be sure to bring some
money for concessions and IRVSRA apparel to
support this free event. We can also use help at
this event! We are looking for volunteers to
Umpire games, Control the Score Board, and
work the concession and apparel booths. Please
contact Casey if interested in volunteering for
this event. We hope to be able to give free
event t-shirts to those who volunteer the whole
day!

Kiwanis Club of Pekin and our Aktion Clubs.

Special Olympics Flag Football
It is our second year having a flag football
team. This year we plan on going to two
tournaments, one in September and the other in
October. We will learn the rules, practice the plays,
and hone our skills. If interested, please attend the
mandatory orientation meeting in the Pekin Pavilion.
This is a non-contact sport. There will be no tackling.

are planning a rummage sale in the Pekin 4-H
Shelter. 100% of the proceeds will go towards

We have an opportunity to provide a great service to the
Marigold Festival while raising funds for IRVSRA. We will be in charge of
running the Hold-n-Load Booth. Festival Shoppers have the option to
leave their larger items with us, receiving a claim ticket, while they
continue to shop or bring their vehicle to our tent to load the item(s). In
return they will “Pay What You Want” to our donation box for our
services. We also hope to sell some items, concessions, or IRVSRA Apparel
while there to increase our earnings. If interested in taking lead on this
fundraiser or simply signing up to volunteer a few hours, please contact
Casey. We are looking for participants, friends, and family to help out!

Come one, Come all!
Every September, IRVSRA Special Olympic
Sport participants are invited to an annual sports
banquet and dance. This year we are planning to
continue the tradition while adding something new.
EVERY ONE IS INVITED TO ATTEND! Everyone will
join in on a meal, silent auction, celebration, and the
dance to follow, while registered athletes will be
honored during an awards ceremony with
participation gifts and a trophy if they won a Gold
Medal at a State Tournament.
Can I come? How Much?
Everyone is invited. IRVSRA Athletes who
participated in Football, Basketball, Soccer, Track,
Softball, Tee-ball, or Bowling in the last 12 months
are FREE and get a FREE ‘Plus One’. Additional
Plates are available for purchase at registration.
Everyone else will pay $12 a plate. Being a
fundraiser, you are encouraged to invite everyone
you know to attend.
