Transformation is a keystone of the cycle of life. From birth to death, we travel a continual path of choice and change. That is the journey we will travel in this show. The past year has experienced great migrations of people, a house divided, pandemics and terrorism, but it has also been a year of marriage equality, humanity towards others, collaboration, transgender acceptance and a collective coming together to make our world a better place. Carbondale Council on Arts and Humanities (CCAH) works to make our small part of the world a better place, too. The dedication that so many put into this show translates into money for arts education in our schools. Why is this important? In this day and age, it takes creativity to succeed. The arts are proven to improve students’ test scores in core subjects and to teach important 21st century skills like divergent thinking, critical analysis and bigger vision planning. So I must thank the models who I have had the pleasure to watch transform through our experience together; the designers who make environmental choices in their art and lead the way in helping to protect our earth; the dancers who rehearse for months to create movement that makes us think; and the artists who create imagery that inspires us. The creative tribe in the Roaring Fork Valley is strong. Thank you for being part of it! Amy Kimberly The Carbondale Council on Arts and Humanities builds community through art. We do this every day through our arts education programs, a top notch gallery, a gift store (focusing on local arts and manufacturing), The Carbondale Creative District (empowering economic development in our creative industries) and The Launchpad (a home for creativity and community events such as this show), plus Día de Los Muertos and the Carbondale Mountain Fair. CCAH depends on memberships, grants, donations and earned income to provide our services. We hope you will join us in assuring there is access to art for all. www.carbondalearts.com Are You An Art lover? The R2 Art Gallery is pleased to announce our 2016 gallery exhibition schedule. We are so proud of the caliber of artists that surround us in the Roaring Fork Valley and we hope you will take the time to experience this world-class art. 3/4 - 3/25 Wilderness Workshop Artists In Residence and Greg Watts Photography 4/1 - 4/22 Private Lives featuring Shelly Safir Marolt 4/29 - 5/27 Sprick/Bowlby/Kemp/Tonozzi 6/3 - 6/24 Mandalas featuring Dick Carter 7/1 - 7/30 Anderson Ranch 50th Anniversary Retrospective Photography Show 8/5 - 9/3 Clay National XI/The Scale of Intimacy with the Carbondale Clay Center 9/9 - 9/30 Mind Trips featuring Patty Ringer 10/7 - 11/5 Prints and Poetry with Johanna Mueller and Cameron Scott 11/18 - 12/29 Deck the Walls Holiday Show Photo by Karina Wang The whole works Designer Challenge Green is the New Black designers are eligible to win up to $1,000 in prize money. Photographer Beth White was so intrigued with the transformation that she decided to capture it in 2015. She completed an impressive photo series of before and after images of participating models, capturing the transformation. A selection of these images are currently on display at The Launchpad (76 S. 4th St, Carbondale), through March 25. Tonight, as you watch the show, imagine the personal landscape of each of model that walks the runway. There are moms, teachers, bankers, yoga instructors, forest service employees, nurses, lifeguards, chefs, chiropractors, mixologists, architects, farmers, high school students, an art installer, a ranch hand, and the list goes on. Each of these models perform in the fashion show to experience a transformation from head to toe that comes from deep in the soul! Transformed models clockwise from top right: Becka Shank, Brianne Jones, Adjoa Hursey, Angie Davlyn, and Emmy Brown Photos by Beth White MODELS WANTED FOR FIGURE DRAWING CLASS Colorado Mountain College is seeking males and females, age 18 or older, to model for weekly Figure Drawing classes taught by artist Dean Bowlby.
