Command History Reports for the TUTUILA (ARG-4). Unfortunately, there is no record
of submission for the 1971 Command History Report.
The National Archives and Records Administration, Modem Military Records
Branch, 8601 Adelphi Road, College Park, Maryland 20740-6001 holds deck logs ofU.S.
Navy ships prior to 1976. Any requests concerning the existence and availability of deck

anchored in Vung Tau Harbor, Vung
Tau, RVN,vlhich has been, for all practical purposes, her home port since
operated
arriving in Viet Namin July of 1966. While at VungTau, TUTUILA
as the primary repair facility for American and Allied units engaged in
patrollin the coast and rivers iIl the J1;fekong
Delta Area. In January 1968
TUTUILA
received official notification that she had won the l'Ieritorious
Unit Commendationfor the period 17 July 1966 - 1 September 1967.
TUTUILA
had her first underway period for the year on 22nd and 23rd
of January, with independent ship's exercises which included gunnery
exercises, damage control and engineering casuslty drills, and OODmaneuvering drills.
The ship remained in Vung Tau until 9 April, 1969.
9 - 12 April was anoth~r 1.S.E. period for TUTUlLA,enroute from Vung
Tau to An Thoi, RVN,where she provided vi tal support to Coastal Division
11 and Coast Gu~rd Division 1l.TUTUILA was particularly valuable in the
area of Hull Repair on the PCF's, since it is the only ship in the area

ship got underway for Yokosuka, Japan for a long mvaited shipyard overhaul.
A proposed visit to Keelung, Taiv;an ~vas cancelled because of an encounter
with T>jphoonEamie and several d~s of high vTinds, heavy seas, and little
headt1iay. After that, plus a fevI more anxious days of trying to stand clear
of Typhoon Ora, the ship arrived in Yokosuka on 6 December to a,vait the
commencement of her overhaul.
1968 was a revlarding year for TUTUILA.It is fitting
that the year
