Jitka Hosprová Viola Soloist 2013 Biography “Jitka has a passion for the viola and strives to make audiences take notice of this overlooked instrument, exploring the existing solo viola literature and encouraging composers to write new works. She is a stunning artist to watch!” - DeeAnne Hunstein, New York Jitka Hosprová started playing viola at the age of seven and in 1989 was accepted to the Conservatoire in Pilsen where she studied under Jan Motlík. Four years later, she was awarded at the International Beethoven´s Hradec Competition. She graduated from the Academy of Performing Arts Prague (AMU) under Jan Pruska and won a scholarship for a Master’s course in Semmering, Austria. Whilst there, she worked as leader of the viola section in the International orchestra "Die Junge Österreichische Philharmonie" and represented the Academy of Performing Arts as a soloist at the international meeting of universities in Graz, Austria. A member of the Bennewitz Quartet since 1998, Hosprová has worked under the leadership of such top ensembles as the Amadeus Quartet, Alban Berg Quartet, and Smetana Quartet and has performed both in the Czech Republic and abroad. In 2000 she took part in the Festival of Chamber Music, organized by Süddeutscher Rundfunk radio station and completed the popular “String quartets of Leos Janácek” CD with Hans Krása and Pavel Haas. Her first solo CD “Rhapsody” with Czech composers Martin Slavický and Lukás Bodorová was released in January 2001 and was followed in August 2005 by a collection of Czech viola concertos in association with Prague Chamber Orchestra. Hosprová’s immensely successful 2005 tour of Washington, D. C. and New York secured her cooperation with prestigious New York agency Hunstein Artists, and the next season she was introduced to an American audience in Washington, D.C. at Ronald Regan's Medal of Freedom event in memory of Dr. Milada Horáková. More US concerts dates followed with Hosprová performing as soloist of the French Chamber Orchestra in Connecticut and Los Angeles and at a solo recital in New York in 2007. As a soloist, she has entertained audiences at the following music festivals: Jitka Hosprová is not only a much-sought-after soloist but a celebrated chamber player too, having performed with such eminent Czech groups as Wihan's Quartet, Stamic's Quartet, Kocian's Quartet, Epoque Quartet, Appolon's Quartet, and Ensemble Martinů. Composers Zdeněk Lukáš, Jindřich Feld, Emil Viklický, Josef Vejvoda, Gillaume Connesson Tomaž Svete are amongst those who have dedicated compositions to Hosprová in the past.
