Sports can be a great way for kids to have fun, exercise and build character all at the same time. First and
most important, sports must be fun or kids will not want to play them. This involves parents and coaches
working together to encourage kids and not putting pressure on them to perform. Secondly, sports are a
great way for kids to get some exercise. No matter what sport a child is playing, there is going to be physical
activity. An active childhood lifestyle will hopefully lead to an active lifestyle as an adult. Finally, and
sometimes not focused on enough, is the character growth gained from playing sports. While playing a
sport, not only will a child learn the rules and some skills of the sport, but also sportsmanship, teamwork,
and goal setting. These are traits that will translate into their adult lives.
We rely on adults to be volunteer coaches for all of our youth sports.
Please consider being a role model to these deserving kids.

The YMCA is the designated Child Care Provider for the Washington Community Schools. Our counselors are
trained in CPR, First Aid, Child Abuse Prevention, and have had background checks. Most importantly, they
all care about being a positive influence on kids.

The After School program meets at North Elementary Monday – Thursday and at the YMCA on Friday.
Bus transportation is provided for kids who do not attend North Elementary.
Help with homework, snacks, arts & crafts, enrichment programs, sports, indoor and outdoor games, independent
and group activities, and guest speakers are just some of the things your child could expect at YMCA After School.

Holiday Child Care
If school is out, don’t worry the YMCA is still there for you and your kids. On all school holidays, early releases,
and snow days the Y will still have child care available. Kids will need to bring a sack lunch, swim suit and
towel each day.
