A few pictures from our 2008 All Pontiac Show
Our 10th Anniversary of our Pontiac Shows will be
celebrated in 2017. My first show I attended as a
member of SVGTO was held at Freysinger Pontiac in
Mechanicsburg. I had recently joined SVGTO at the GM
Nationals in 2016 and knew no one in the club then.
The following year I then attended our car show at
Freysinger’s . I believe there were around 24 total cars
in attendance. It was overcast and rainy in other areas
along with as I recall another show was being held
nearby. I recall talking to then vice president Joel Miller,
and our secretary Russ Esenwine on how to build the
show. I mentioned to Joel I have an idea if you’re
receptive to it. Intrigued Joel said… yea! I told him I’m
not familiar with shows in the Harrisburg area but I
know in Lancaster car shows were quite popular and
attended by many. I also know ‘a guy’ Steve Jones
whom I went to school with and has a real nice Pontiac
dealership in Lancaster. Would you be open to perhaps
seeing if Steve would be open to hosting a show at his
dealership next year and see how it goes? Both Joel and
Russ were receptive to it.

Steve Jones
addressing our
guests with then SVGTO President,
Doug Warble
I contacted Steve a few days later and presented my
idea. Steve was very enthusiastic at the idea as he
informed me the dealership hosted Pontiac events for
some 30 years before they ended and would love to
revive it. And so it began. Our first ‘official’ All Pontiac
began in Steve’s used car lot in 2008. It was a beautiful
sunny day and our first event hosted roughly 75-80
Pontiacs. Many mentioned how they routinely attended
shows at Jones and were happy those shows have
returned. Our first show was a huge success. One car
that stood out that day was a time capsule ’77 Bandit
Trans-Am that came out for the first time in some 20
years. The total mileage on that car as I recall was
around 180 miles. The car then was owned by a fellow
that owned the Good-N-Plenty restaurant in Lancaster.
We were honored he brought that car out for the first
time in a very long time to our first show. Years later I
learned he had a collection and sold the entire
collection. I remember being told where the car went
but heck if can remember now.
Following the show, discussions ensued whether to
return to Jones Dealerships for our 2nd show. With the
success of our first show it was a no brainer; YES! …..
Part 2 of this story to come next month…….

---------------------------------------------------------------------Upcoming Events
May 15: Cops & Rodders show: Hempfield High School,
Stanley Avenue, Landisville, PA. We’ll meet at the; I think
it’s the Jr. High or middle school beside the football
stadium and proceed to the showfield across the street at
9.30 am. Getting there at that time will assure us a good
spot we’ve enjoyed over the years. Please be prompt we
can’t always hold spots the ‘parkers’ don’t like leaving
gaps and each year there is a conflict doing so when we
request it.
June 5: Burdette Brothers show in Hyattsville, MD if
anyone wants to travel down. This is always a good
Pontiac Show.
June 11: LCBC show in Manheim
Update on the East Coast Regional at Max
Performance:
As you know Carlisle has moved the GM show to the
same date as our Regional event. We left it up to the
membership which event to support and attend.

I want to share this little story
with everyone for no other reason but
to add another page to the "folk lore" all
classic car enthusiasts hear over the
years. Just a few weeks ago as I was entering work a fellow employee named
Chris started telling me what he did over
the weekend. Chris was at a funeral, and
as most of us know, there are relatives that
show up who have not been seen for many
years. Stories began to be told and Chris
heard this unbelievable story of a 1967
GTO. It turns out that a relative from
North Carolina has this 1967 GTO that he
purchased new. I don't know the mileage
but Chris made it sound like the car has
under 500 miles on it. The guy parked the
car in his basement and never touched it
again. I for one would pay an entrance fee
to see something like this. Unfortunately,
Chris said that even family members are
not allowed to get around the car. There is
sits this unmolested all original time capsule GOAT.
The same guy recently purchased a new
Mustang and he paid to have some after
market high performance parts put on the
car. You'll never guess what happened
next, the car was pulled into a garage covered and locked away from humans. The
only thing to do is peer in a window to see
the car cover that is shaped like a Mustang.
Although I hate knowing that these cars
are not being used for what they were designed to do but I tip my hat to these people who unwittingly create a "treasure" that
become part of the "folk lore" we car guys
enjoy telling.

Part Deux
As the holiday season is in full swing, my
GTO sits motionless in the garage, getting
drunk off the kilowatts it’s sucking out of
the battery
tender.
As the garage door opens on 2016, it’s
time to seriously plan a date and time
when the three of us can get together and
begin the dissection of GM’s global engineering. So, putting our heads together,
we settled on a weekend in late January.
All the parts were accounted for, cars
packed with appropriate tools, jacks and
jack stands on hand, everything was
ready to go. We were ready, but as Vic
always points out, Murphy is always lurking in the background. On January 26th,
Mother Nature unleashed her bitchfest in
the form of the Blizzard of 2016. Saturday
morning greeted us with 18” of snow, on
its way to a record shattering 30.5” when
it was all said and done. I pulled the covers over my head, hugged my dog and
went back to sleep.

Part Deux
Finally, after a few weeks of snow melt and life returning
to normal after the Snow-pocalyps, we were again able
to find a Saturday in February when we could all get
together. So, on that chilly morning, the A Team arrives
to hot coffee and fresh
donuts. With tools in
hand, a gas powered
heater, and a gas
powered Bob arrived
with Brian not far
behind. We set to work
with the task at
hand.

At this point, the story gets
rather boring, as for some
reason, Murphy must not
have been paying attention,
probably on the john
checking Facebook I
suppose. So, the Cliff Notes
version goes something like
this.
All, went as planned, no
missing parts, no broken
bolts, all proper tools
available, no eyes flushed
with ATF, just a steady and

comical 7 hours of
delegated responsibility,
teamwork, comradery and
the indispensable experience of a couple of genuinely
good guys! Only one quick trip to Advanced Auto for
some minor
ancillary goods
was needed. So,
a productive day
ended with a
new clutch
assembly, slave
cylinder, remote
bleeder and a
new radiator all
installed with
very little fuss or
muss, nary a

emphasis or for
comedic timing.
Not a bad deal for $400
in parts, donuts and
dinner!
I am truly blessed to be
associated with SVGTO
and the friendships and
expertise that goes
along with it. What
could have cost a small
fortune was kept in check
by the willingness and
dedication of the A Team.
My personal thanks to
Brian and Bob for all their
efforts.
It was a real pleasure to
once again fire up that LS1

for a spin. I have attached
