We will be having a BOPC Committee meeting at the Piedmont Church Cruise-in (8-11:30) Saturday Feb 6th. Any interested member can attend. The Motorama at Atlanta Motor Speedway is April 16th, 2 weeks before the BOPC. The Motorama is expanding to compare/compete with the Spring Charlotte Show in Charlotte, NC. If you’ve never been to Charlotte, the Motorama will have what Charlotte has, without the 4 hour drive, and a chance to drive your classic car around the track. FUN FUN FUN!! Have your car ready and attend both events! Check out the upcoming Meeting plans and attend!! The reason for a car club is to have more fun with our hobby, so join us and have fun around Pontiacs!!!! John Link Board Members Bob Immekus [email protected] Ed Bellair [email protected] P.S. SEGTOA Annual dues ($20.00) are due Jan 1st of each year. Please include your GTOAA member number and expiration date. 2 February Event: Georgia Racing Hall of Fame Musem Dawsonville, Georgia Saturday February 13, 2016 Come out and see “Awesome Bill from Dawsonville!” Well, maybe not, but you never know. What we do know is that if Bill Elliott makes an appearance at the museum and you’re not there, you’ll definitely miss him! Everyone is probably aware that NASCAR racing got its start through the Moonshiners of old. The Georgia Racing Hall of Fame Museum celebrates those original racers and continues to induct new ones into the Hall of Fame. Join us as we view some of that history. Our January event was cancelled due to poor attendance. Let’s make February’s event happen! Saturday March 19 — Memories in Monroe Saturday-Sunday April 16-17, Summit/Atlanta Motorama - Atlanta Motor Speedway Saturday April 20 - BOPC Show - Piedmont Church, Marietta June 3-5 - Pontiacs in Pigeon Forge October - Tail of the Dragon overnight trip Make plans to attend as many of our 2016 events as possible! Some are “official,” some are tentative. Memories in Monroe is a great event in downtown Monroe around the square, which will be closed off to traffic. See the flyer and registration form on pages 5-6. The Atlanta Motorama sponsored by Summit Racing is an incredible two-day meet at AMS in Hampton. Even though it rained last year, attendance was good. There’s a huge vendor tesnt, all sorts of outdoor displays and many car clubs participate. There are lots of activities for everyone, including the kids. This show gets bigger every year. Of course, we’ll need you to participate in the BOPC show on Saturday, April 30. Whether you bring your car(s) or not, we will need a lot of help to make this a successful event. This is out only fund-raiser, and we only host it once every four years. Please help us out with this one! Pontiacs in Pigeon Forge is another great one. We had 11 people in 7 cars last year. Let’s see if we can beat that number. This is a Pontiacs Only show, and there will be more than 200 of them at the show. Saturday evening there’s a cruise up to Newfound Gap near Gatlinburg. There’s a free dinner Friday night for all registrants. There will be additional paved parking this year. This is one of those shows that just gets better every year. You can trailer your car or drive it up, and if you drive you won’t have to go it alone. There should be several of us making the trip on Friday this year, taking a route with spectacular scenery. The Tail of the Dragon overnight trip is a popular one that’s becoming a regular event. Ask anyone who went last year and they’ll tell you what a great tome they had! These are your club events! Help us make all of them a success! 4 5 6 Tech Tips -- Where you turn for help? It’s a common question: “Where do I go, who do I ask for advice on this issue I’m having with my car?” The answer is simple: Your fellow SEGTOA members! A recent email request to the SEGTOA membership for technical assistance to adjust the hood of my 1967 GTO was received with enthusiastic replies! Members Jim Andrews (‘67 GTO), Jim Norton (‘70 GTO), Ed Bellair (‘68 GTO), Michael Daugherty (‘71 Lemans and ‘59 Bonnie), Steve Weisbarth (‘67 GTO and ‘72 Lemans and Jim Schultz (‘67 GTO) and our President John Link had all contributed their input which helped me get very good results! Most notable was the recommendation to loosen the front bracket bolt and lift up the hinge to close the gap between the hood and cowl panel. All other recommendations for adjustments were used to close gaps between hood and fender and front valence panel. Thanks to my fellow club members, I am happy with my little GTO! Ernie Stephens My ‘67 GTO may be a perpetual a rolling project. Though it’s far from finished, I drive it wherever and whenever I can. Winter, though much milder in Georgia than the Michigan/Ohio/Indiana winters I grew up with, is generally when I do my major projects. I am currently refinishing a dash bezel that I got with a set of original Rallye gauges purchased from member Jon Ward. Since I enjoy doing any work I can myself (and enjoy saving a ton of money in the process), I solicited the club for advice on removing the bezel insert. Paul Sorrells stepped up and offered advice on removing the glue left behind after removing the insert. Thanks to Paul, I was able to remove the remaining semi-dried-up glue using Naphtha, which did not harm the bezel plastic. I knew there was a suitable solvent to use, but I was able to avoid the time and money of the trial and error of determining which one to use. Jim Andrews 7 A blast from the past… Remember the Monkees? Remember the Monkeemobile? The Monkeemobile's origins began in 1966 when Dean Jeffries was asked to design and build a car for a new TV show called "The Monkees". Jeffries, under contract with Model Products Corporation (MPC) at the time, told CEO George Toteff about the project. A make of vehicle had not yet been chosen for the project. Mr. Toteff then told his friend Jim Wangers of these developments. Mr. Wangers was working with Pontiac promotion and advertising at the time and saw the show as a huge promotional opportunity for Pontiac. After making the deal, Jim Wangers supplied two base 389 4barrel 1966 GTO convertibles with automatic-transmissions to be converted into Monkeemobiles. MPC was in turn given exclusive rights to market a model kit of the Monkeemobile. They would end up selling over 7 million copies of these kits.
