Stalls, games, tombola and raffle. 16th July - Year 6 presentation evening www.littleprincesses.org.uk 17th July - School closes for the Summer 10th July - KS1 Teddy Bears picnic 15th July - Golf team to Hymers in Hull YEAR 2 JUBILEE PARTY LOST PROPERTY Year Two held a celebration party after their recent Key Stage 1 SATs. To finalise their topic theme of The Royal Family, the children celebrated in regal style with a Jubilee Celebration Party. The children planned a wonderful party and decorated the lovely outdoor area in front of Class 5 with bunting, balloons and signs. The children worked very hard preparing and planning for the party. The Friends of Martongate Primary School kindly donated some money which enabled the staff to buy a celebration picnic for the children to share. There is currently a large amount of unclaimed clothing in school. All of the lost property that is not reclaimed by Friday 10th July will be recycled by the 17th July. Please ensure that you have checked the lost property area for any missing items prior to this time. Thank you. Miss Courtney and Mrs McLaughlin want to say a very big thank you to The Friends for their help in making the party such a great success, all of the children loved it! YEAR 5 POETRY FESTIVAL Our year 5 pupils were all invited to write a poem about a battered old trumpet. James Nash a well established poet, invited six children along to the Sewerby Hall and Gardens to attend the Bridlington poetry festival to perform their poems. Eight local schools were in attendance and took part in poetry workshops with local poets. In the afternoon the children went to the Orangery where they read their poems in an open mic session. Mrs Smith said that all of the children behaved extremely well and read their poems fantastically. Well done everyone! EYFS SEA LIFE CENTRE VISIT On Tuesday 2nd June the EYFS children visited the Scarborough Sea Life and Marine Sanctuary. This was to launch their new class topic. The children had a fantastic time exploring the centre and some of the children were brave enough to hold crabs, starfish and sea anemones! The children were very well behaved and a credit to Martongate School. Our year 2 pupils (Classes 5 and 6) have been very creative and extremely descriptive in writing riddles about animals. The Teachers told the children that all of the riddles would be taken to the school office where some would be chosen for the newsletter, and here they are! We hope that you enjoy reading them as much as we did. MY RIDDLE MY RIDDLE I have big floppy ears, I have a small, black nose, I have a long, wiggly, thin tail. I eat juicy bones, I eat scrumptious food, I make a lot of noise while I bark. I like to make a lot of holes, I like chasing boring cats, black cats and fat cats, I like to run, I like to go to the park, I like to dig deep, black holes I like to get everything black, I like to bark. What am I? Hannah Class 6 My Riddle I eat fish, bones and beautiful juicy human beings. I am dark green skinny and spikey. I live in hot desserts, secret rock pools and cold light blue rivers. I make people run away and the only humans I have are old Grannies! I have a family of four and we live together. I hear birds tweeting in the breeze noisily because they are happy. I can taste juicy rotten fish. I can feel my teeth chewing on humans, fish and bone yet the humans scream. I eat rotten juicy fish which I eat everyday so I do not die. I make wet cool water roar when I get in a river. I live in a deep dark cave which is under the wet roaring river. I hate Jelly fish near me. What am I? MY RIDDLE My skin is soft and cuddly like a teddy bear, My nose is gloomy, squelchy like a cat. Also I have sharp, spikey claws, which eat people, Poachers kill me for my fluffy fur, My favourite food is salmon and water, I have to catch it first so I can eat it, I live in long, big forests like the Amazon rainforest. It is dirty and muddy, The trees are tall, huge and the light green leaves shake off them when it is winter and autumn. If someone sees me you will be frightened and I will come after also kill but only if I see you. My poo smells like horse poo, how disgusting is that!? Also elephant poo! Cooper Park Class 5 Lana Holmes Class 6 BIG WILD RUMPUS YEAR 3 ROMAN FEAST Year 3 would like to say a very big thank you to all of the Friends of Martongate. They kindly donated some money so that the Year 3 classes could have the best Roman feast possible. We had fun making Roman helmets, played games and feasted on food that the Romans ate. Thank you again from all of the staff and children in Class 7 and Class 8. We hope you enjoy looking at our photos. We made a class Roman mosaic which everyone joined in I live in the freezing cold Arctic where it is very chilly. On my left I see the huge tall mountain Everest that is the biggest mountain in the Arctic. On my right I see giant purple mountains as big as a school. There’s a big slippery slope good for sliding on. Also there is tiny silver snow flakes falling really slow. I have a tickly fluffy tail which tickles your toes. My big white body that weighs a tonne has invisible grey fur like a coat. I also have four quick feet moving around. Finally the last thing I have are two great cool ears good for listening. For my tea I have pink soggy fish which are tasty, I have yummy blue water for drinking in. I smell yummy fishy gas telling me food is close by There is a wet blue lake for taking a bath. What am I? Sam Pannell Class 5 We all made Roman helmets and wore them! North Bridlington Library Saturday 13th June 10:30 - 11:30 Come and perform “Where the wild things are”. Let your imagination go wild and join in the fun making masks and costumes. All ages are welcome For more information please contact the North Bridlington Library 01262 671468 with. We tucked into a Roman feast. We had bread, fruit, figs, meat, vegetable, cakes, honey and fruit juice. Mr Elliott came to our feast dressed as a Roman Soldier! We played a Roman Game called Rota. REQUEST Mrs Draper (Art) has requested old food magazines for an art project. If you have any old Supermarket books or food based magazines, please would you leave them at the school reception. COMPETITIORS IN THE RUGBY MEGA FEST CONGRATULATIONS TO THE MARTONGATE YEAR 3 AND YEAR 4 ATHLETICS TEAM The children attended an evening of rugby at Bridlington Rugby Club where they were taught the skills required to play the game including small sided games. games Two teams competed at Bridlington School on Tuesday 2nd June, Team A won the Partnership Competition and Team B were runners up. They played 3 other schools in their group and were victorious in the three matches. Match 1 vs Hilderthorpe Martongate 274 Hilderthorpe 217 (Martongate won by 57 runs) Match 2 vs Bay 2nd 14th 15 competitors Position Martongate 277 Bay 228. Martongate won by 49 runs. Match 3 vs Burlington Martongate 277 Burlington 266. Martongate won by 11 runs. The other group was won by Bempton School who also won all of their games. In the final Bempton batted first and some great bowling and fielding from Martongate restricted them to a score of 197. Martongate managed to score 234 thus winning by 37 runs. CONGRATULATIONS TO NIAMH HALL AND SCARLETT HOLMES Niamh and Scarlett represented the East Riding in the level 3cross country competition held at Hull University Sports Ground. Niamh was placed 28th in the Year 5-6 girls race and Scarlett 32nd in the year 3-4 race. DRAX KWIK CRICKET 5TH JUNE 2015 The cricket team travelled to Beverley for a competition. MATCH 1 Martongate beat Swanland by 57 runs match 2 Martongate beat Nafferton by 33 runs Match 3 Martongate beat North Cave by 88 runs Well done to the team! Harvey Asquith, Harvey Thompson, Owen Tolson, Mia Garnett, Edward Pithers, Jorden Martin, Noah Howarth, Coby Scotter, James Tighe and Toby Gee. HOCKEY Maxwell Camfield, Tamara Lino, Niamh Hall, Tom Manson, Lewis Wright, Ava Williams, Jessica Robson, Savannah Kilburn, Edward Pithers, Evie Frank and Harvey Asquith. ROUNDERS The rounders team played in the schools sports partnership rounders final on Tuesday 16th June. Their performance had improved significantly from the earlier rounds with the fielding being much smarter and more accurate. The team played three matches in their pool and finished a respectable third overall. Martongate V Burstwick won 3½ - 2 Martongate V Driffield lost 3 -4 Martongate V St Marys Beverley won 5 - 1 Martongate V Hutton Cranswick (3rd and 4th place play off)won 6 - 2½ THE TEAM Joe Pratley, Harrison Grainger, Eugene Gray, Evan Jemison, Joshua Davey, Rhys Granton, Ethan Marshall, Chloe Dennis, Abigail Tayor, Millie Rowbottom, Lily Voase and Tamara Lino Two hockey teams from Martonagate Primary School travelled to Driffield Astroturf on Friday 5th June to play friendly matches against Nafferton Primary School. Both teams included children who haven’t had the chance this year to represent the school. They played well and showed great determination throughout the evening and were a real credit to themselves and the school. The Girls team of Tamara Lino, Maggie Wilkinson, Abigail Taylor, Millie Rowbottom, Kaitlyn Hagan, Rachel Pearson and Georgia Goodlad drew 0 - 0. The Boys team of Alfie Yates, Anthony Cadamatri, Owen Tolson, Harvey Asquith. Toby Gee, Coby Scotter, Harvey Thompson and James Tighe drew 0 – 0 On the 8th June 122 pupils took part in the school annual Mini Olympics. The sun made an appearance which allowed the event to go ahead as planned! Pupils from Years2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 were invited to take part in one sprint race, one throwing event and one jumping event. Points were awarded in each competition and the best boy and girl from each Year group were awarded Gold, Silver and Bronze medals. There was some fantastic effort put in by the children in a bid to earn a medal. Well done to everyone that came along and took part. The School Sports Partnership celebrated their 10th Anniversary this year with Britain’s greatest ever gymnast, Beth Tweddle, presenting the awards. Phoebe Newby was presented with a runner up award for her support in her play leader role in school. Elisha Walbyoff was also awarded a runner up award for her outstanding individual performance in sport. Lily Voase was recognised for her commitment and outstanding individual performance in sport and was awarded 2nd place. The school’s mixed gymnastics team won the outstanding school team trophy for their exceptional performances both at the Yorkshire and British gymnastics championships. Ben came along to share his Olympic experience and pass on tips to the children. He did a really inspirational assembly talk about his experiences at the 2012 Olympics and talked about making the most of opportunities in both sport and school work. Ben spent the rest of the day with all of the Key stage 2 children and signed autographs for them across his lunchtime. It has been a very busy time at school for sport and the visit was a great opportunity for the children to see just what goals can be achieved if you put a lot of hard work, commitment and time into something. EAST RIDING KWIK CRICKET FINALS AT BEVERLEY CRICKET CLUB The Martongate cricketers travelled to Beverley on the 12th June for the Kwik cricket finals. We have had a very , very busy time lately with lot’s of various sporting activities. Martongate School has a fantastic diverse sporting history and each school year it goes from strength to strength. Competitive team sports are great for encouraging pupils to work together and Athletics can bring out the drive and determination to achieve. We would like to wish all of our sporting leavers good luck at your next school, and we look forward to welcoming our new pupils to keep the school’s sporting reputation going strong. The weather was on our side making the event a pleasant one for both the children and the spectators. There was an array of events including the egg and spoon, beanbag and bucket, skipping, sack race and much, much more. All of the children were on their best behaviour and were a credit to the school. Thank you to everyone that came along and supported the pupils. THE JAMIE PILMOOR RACE At the end of the Key Stage 1 sports day, seven of our Year 2 pupils competed in the Jamie Pilmoor Memorial Race. Cooper Park, Caitlin Painter, Daniel Rhodes, Sam Davis, Lana Holmes, Liam Tibbet and Lucy Jordan all ran the race. Sam Davis won the race with Daniel Rhodes finishing second and Liam Tibbett in third place.
