YEAR 2 JUBILEE PARTY
LOST PROPERTY
Year Two held a celebration party after their recent Key Stage 1 SATs.
To finalise their topic theme of The Royal Family, the children celebrated in
regal style with a Jubilee Celebration Party.
The children planned a wonderful party and decorated the lovely outdoor
area in front of Class 5 with bunting, balloons and signs.
The children worked very hard preparing and planning for the party.
The Friends of Martongate Primary School kindly donated some money
which enabled the staff to buy a celebration picnic for the children to share.
There is currently a large amount of unclaimed
clothing in school. All of the lost property that is not
reclaimed by Friday 10th July will be recycled by the
17th July. Please ensure that you have checked the lost
property area for any missing items prior to this time.
Thank you.
Miss Courtney and Mrs McLaughlin want to say a very big thank you to
The Friends for their help in making the party such a great success,
all of the children loved it!
YEAR 5 POETRY FESTIVAL
Our year 5 pupils were all invited to write a
poem about a battered old trumpet.
James Nash a well established poet, invited
six children along to the Sewerby Hall and
Gardens to attend the Bridlington
poetry festival to perform their poems.
Eight local schools were in attendance and
took part in poetry workshops
with local poets.
In the afternoon the children went to
the Orangery where they read their poems
in an open mic session. Mrs Smith said
that all of the children behaved
extremely well and read their
poems fantastically.
Well done everyone!
EYFS SEA LIFE CENTRE VISIT
On Tuesday 2nd June the EYFS
children visited the Scarborough
Sea Life and Marine Sanctuary.
This was to launch their new class
topic. The children had a fantastic
time exploring the centre
and some of the children were
brave enough to hold crabs,
starfish and sea anemones!
The children were very well
behaved and a credit to
Martongate School.
Our year 2 pupils (Classes 5 and 6) have been very creative and extremely descriptive in writing
riddles about animals. The Teachers told the children that all of the riddles would be taken to the
school office where some would be chosen for the newsletter, and here they are!
We hope that you enjoy reading them as much as we did.
MY RIDDLE
MY RIDDLE
I have big floppy ears, I have a small, black nose,
I have a long, wiggly, thin tail.
I eat juicy bones, I eat scrumptious food,
I make a lot of noise while I bark.
I like to make a lot of holes,
I like chasing boring cats, black cats and fat cats,
I like to run, I like to go to the park,
I like to dig deep, black holes I like to get everything black,
I like to bark.
What am I?
Hannah Class 6
My Riddle
I eat fish, bones and beautiful juicy human beings.
I am dark green skinny and spikey.
I live in hot desserts, secret rock pools and
cold light blue rivers.
I make people run away and the only humans
I have are old Grannies!
I have a family of four and we live together.
I hear birds tweeting in the breeze noisily
because they are happy.
I can taste juicy rotten fish. I can feel my teeth chewing on
humans, fish and bone yet the humans scream.
I eat rotten juicy fish which I eat everyday
so I do not die.
I make wet cool water roar when I get in a river.
I live in a deep dark cave which is under the wet roaring
river. I hate Jelly fish near me.
What am I?
MY RIDDLE
My skin is soft and cuddly like a teddy bear,
My nose is gloomy, squelchy like a cat.
Also I have sharp, spikey claws, which eat people,
Poachers kill me for my fluffy fur,
My favourite food is salmon and water,
I have to catch it first so I can eat it,
I live in long, big forests like the Amazon rainforest.
It is dirty and muddy,
The trees are tall, huge and the light green leaves shake
off them when it is winter and autumn.
If someone sees me you will be frightened and I will come
after also kill but only if I see you.
My poo smells like horse poo, how disgusting is that!?
Also elephant poo!

YEAR 3 ROMAN FEAST
Year 3 would like to say a very big thank you to all of the Friends of Martongate.
They kindly donated some money so that the Year 3 classes could have the best

I live in the freezing cold Arctic where it is very chilly.
On my left I see the huge tall mountain Everest that is the
biggest mountain in the Arctic. On my right I see giant purple
mountains as big as a school.
There’s a big slippery slope good for sliding on.
Also there is tiny silver snow flakes falling really slow.
I have a tickly fluffy tail which tickles your toes.
My big white body that weighs a tonne has invisible grey fur like
a coat. I also have four quick feet moving around.
Finally the last thing I have are two great cool ears good for
listening.
For my tea I have pink soggy fish which are tasty,
I have yummy blue water for drinking in.
I smell yummy fishy gas telling me food is close by
There is a wet blue lake for taking a bath.
What am I?

OLYMPIC VOLLEYBALL PLAYER VISIT
Former Great Britain volleyball captain
Ben Pipes visited our school on the 11th
June. Ben came along to share his Olympic
experience and pass on tips to the children.
He did a really inspirational assembly talk
about his experiences at the 2012 Olympics
and talked about making the most of
opportunities in both sport and
school work. Ben spent the rest of the day
with all of the Key stage 2 children and
signed autographs for them across his
lunchtime. It has been a very busy time at
school for sport and the visit was a great
opportunity for the children to see just
what goals can be achieved if you
put a lot of hard work, commitment and
time into something.
