Don’t Help Thieves Help Themselves
times. Many crimes occur simply because someone assumed it
would be safe to leave their vehicle unattended and unlocked.
C — Close all the windows.
An open window allows a thief
a quick and quiet way to enter
your vehicle. Even a crack in the
window makes a thief’s job that
much easier.
The increase in auto burglaries is part of a national trend
because people make it far too
easy for a thief to gain access into
a vehicle. Commonly stolen items
are: cell phones, GPS devices, laptop computers, money, FasTrak
devices, gym bags, purses and
briefcases.
Vehicle owners must wisely
choose where to park a vehicle.
Thieves are looking for vehicles
they can enter with the least possibility of being seen.
Don’t park behind buildings,
large shrubs, or large vehicles
where others cannot see your vehicle. Park in well-lit, visible areas.
Stop the thieves in their tracks
by forming a Neighborhood Watch
Program.
For more information on forming a program, email COPPS@
ci.alameda.ca.us or call 337-8305.
If you witness suspicious activity,
call APD at 337-8340 and provide
a detailed description. If it is an
emergency, call 911.
