G ardens are by nature romantic, and everywhere you look at Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens you will see the scenery and the magic that can make your own wedding or party special. We also have excellent facilities if you’re looking for just the right space for a meeting or conference. We hope you will visit to experience firsthand the magnificent gardens and elegant building in which you can envision your event. Here are some of the details. Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens is New England’s newest and largest botanical garden, located along the beautiful Back River in Boothbay, Maine. We are pleased to share our 248 acres of pristine natural landscapes and ornamental gardens with you and your guests. The Gardens offers a beautiful, natural setting with a wide variety of venues from which to choose. Since availability is limited, we encourage you to schedule as soon as possible. The following areas are available to rent for wedding ceremonies or outdoor cocktail parties. T his spectacular garden, located across from the Visitor Center, features a large granite-rose “floor” beneath an openwork gazebo, flanked by two large arbors. It is a perfect site for a small standing ceremony or early evening cocktails. The adjacent Great Lawn, included in your rental, is better for larger ceremonies. The Great Lawn can accommodate a maximum of 200 guests, and the Rose Arbor can hold a maximum of 50 guests. 3 4 Woodland Garden (Ceremonial Glade) T his wonderful nook was designed specifically to be a venue for events, including wedding ceremonies. It is surrounded by ferns and perennial plants and is adjacent to the Cleaver Event Lawn & Garden—a delightful area for receptions. A pop-up tent to weatherproof your ceremony may be placed in the Woodland Garden for up to 24 hours. The garden holds a maximum of 200 guests. In this creatively designed one-acre patch, your guests can get in touch with their senses through an extensive network of water features, plantings that appeal to each sense, and a reflexology labyrinth. The lofty pavilion and the impressive, fan-shaped pergola that extends from it provide a magnificent venue for small gatherings. The garden holds a maximum of 100 guests. A djacent to the Visitor Center is the Burpee Kitchen Garden with its fruits, vegetables, herbs, and a shaped-granite fountain. Your guests can enjoy wandering among the garden beds and relaxing in our terrace seating area. This area is ideal for an outdoor cocktail hour. Filled with more than 8,000 flowering bulbs and hundreds of rhododendrons each spring, and perennials throughout the summer, it is sure to excite and awe your guests! This garden holds a maximum of 100 guests. Shoreland Gazebo T his structure, set beside our tranquil waterfront, is in a wooded location at the end of the Shoreland Trail. Your guests can enjoy a leisurely walk from the Visitor Center and experience your ceremony or gathering in close proximity to nature. The gazebo holds a maximum of 25 guests. 9 Reception Locations Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens has indoor locations available for rental, as well as a large lawn for tented events. These areas offer a convenient setting in which to extend your party throughout the evening, whether it is a wedding reception, private party, or business gala. Your rental will also include the Burpee Kitchen Garden and Café Terrace so your guests can meander outdoors. The Visitor Center holds a total of 150 guests, with a maximum of 100 guests seated in Kerr Hall and 50 in the Kitchen Garden Café. Kitchen Garden Café T his welcoming space within the Visitor Center features a broad, curved, windowed wall; sumptuous colors; and a pale, bamboo floor. The view of the Burpee Kitchen Garden, the Central Gardens, and the trees beyond evoke the feeling of dining alfresco, even in the middle of winter. This space provides a brilliant location for private parties, small receptions, or business meetings. The Café holds a maximum of 50 guests. 11 Cleaver Event Lawn & Garden Y our guests will be in awe as they stroll from the Visitor Center towards this site through the Central Gardens and past the Slater Forest Pond. The open lawn is surrounded by lush borders filled with thousands of perennial flowers and shrubs. A tent (40' × 80' maximum size) is permitted to be up for a four-day period to accommodate vendors, and water and electricity are available for caterers.
