THREE SHIRES TOUR OF MORGAN CARS Approaching final build stage for a Morgan Photo: MM We first visited the Morgan Motor Company, in the shadow of the picturesque Malvern Hills in 2006 so the time was right for another trip to see the last of the truly British car manufacturers who have been in existence for over 100 years now. The current model range is 4/4, Plus 4, Roadster, 4 seater, Plus 8, Aero Supersport, Aero Coupe and THREE SHIRES JUNE NEWSLETTER Contact: Mick Marriott 14, Corn Kiln Close, Cogenhoe, Northants NN7 1NX 01604 890043 [email protected] Three-Wheeler. Twenty members met at the ‘Nag’s Head’ pub in Bank Street, Malvern at midday on Wednesday May 8th for a very good lunch and natter before driving a couple of miles up the road to Pickersleigh Road, home of Morgan Cars for a 2.00 pm tour. John and Susie Batt joined us there at the relatively new visitor centre where there is a restaurant, lecture theatre, museum and regalia shop where a little retail therapy was indulged in! Jonathan, Amanda and Paul at the ‘Nag’s Head’ Photos: MM Retail Therapy in action! Our tour was taken by the Morgan archivist, Martyn Webb, who started with a film and chat and then we launched into the factory tour, taking in the various departments, including the famous ‘wood shop’ as current Morgans still contain a fair quantity of Ash and a little plywood and the relatively new Three-Wheeler production area (reviving the original Morgan iconic design from 1910) and ending at the Morgan museum. Martyn, with his amazing depth of knowledge of all things Morgan was an ideal guide. More photos in a separate supplement. DUKE OF EDINBURGH’S GOLD AWARD FOR ADRIAN Date: 15th May 2013 Location: St. James' Palace, London The award was presented by Carol Kirkwood (BBC Weather Lady). The Duke came into the room and talked to a number of people about the award finding out what activities they had been working on; he asked me and I told him about the service I completed, assisting with the IT systems at The Little Angel Theatre in London. The award title is Gold - Duke of Edinburgh's Award and it has taken me around 10 years to complete, mainly due to work and previously college commitments. It can be completed in 3 years. The award is broken down into 3 parts, Bronze, Silver & Gold, You can skip some steps if you are of the correct age, but I have completed all parts. For each you have to complete a skill, service, physical exercise and an expedition (camping trip). For the Gold you also must complete the Residential Project - this is where you spend a whole week working on different activities. I did mine for the National Trust in The Lizard, Cornwall. In the other parts I did cycling, Oxfam, labouring for a family friend / builder, and, of course, photography for the FOC. The service went on for around 2.5 hours. I, Emma and the family went to Fortnum & Mason's for afternoon tea to celebrate. Regards, Adrian Brittlebank Many congratulations to Adrian from all at Three Shires Ferrari on his prestigious Duke of Edinburgh gold award. Adrian has had many of his photos included in various FOC magazines (and Three Shires newsletters) over the past few years and has recently helped out in the new FOC office at Silverstone with their Twitter account and general computer advice and services.
