The program tapping top designers across the state and now nationally, invites 50 top designers based from outside the tri-county South Florida region to visit and experience its campus, and explore the resources found exclusively within the design center. The DCOTA is known as the mecca for tropical and international design enthusiasts and home owners and hopes Fly/Buy will lure national and international designers looking for this point of view. In return for their visit, Guest Designers are reimbursed for travel expenses*. The initiative has received an overwhelmingly positive response from jet-setting designers and showrooms alike. New York-based designer Harry Daniell exclaimed “I was excited to be nominated for the program. I was able to leverage a trip to a warm climate with the opportunity to shop for my Florida based project. PURVIS YOUNG: The Outsiders Purvis Young is one of the most important self-taught artist to have emerged in the 1980`s. Young had little art instruction while in Raiford prison in the 1960’s and his earliest works reflect a style that predates the raw energy and direct assertiveness of his mature work. Young rejected the training he received and opted instead to operate from gut instinct, using materials found in the streets of Overtown, Miami`s inner city. The label “self-taught” best describes his method of working and in "The Outsiders" he invites the work of other artists whose work resonates with his own art. Young’s work, like the work of the other great self-taught artists of the 20th century, such as Bill Taylor, David Butler, William Edmundson, Horace Pippen. and William Hawkins results ultimately from his emotions and an aesthetic system that implements these powerful feelings. The most comprehensive collection of work by Purvis Young can be viewed at Gallery 721, Ft. Lauderdale or visit www.gallery721.com. Works are Courtesy Gallery 721 with special thanks to Larry Clemons and Bill Withers. A collection rich is tradition and innovation with acanthus leaves and moirés finishes and its use of silks, voiles and metallic thread. Embroidered stripes and jacquards coordinate in harmony. John Rosselli, Suite A-128 Schumacher, Suite A-108 Eden The elaborate Persian gardens that inspired the decorative arts and textiles of the Ottoman Empire also inspired Eden, which features a delicately hand-painted floral motif on a 100% Belgian linen ground. Like many of Nomi's works, the artistry is evident in the subtle, gradual shifts in color and fine attention to detail that give the pattern added depth and emotion. Shown in Natural. Custom colors available. 54" wide. Repeat: 27" horizontal, 21" vertical. Schumacher’s Greenhouse Collection: A fresh look at timeless wallcoverings Schumacher celebrates all things spring with The Greenhouse Collection. This grouping of botanically inspired wallcoverings features lush blossoms, leafy trellised vines, colorful birds and butterflies intermingled with softly hued patterns perfectly suited for timeless interiors. In Schumacher’s new Greenhouse Collection, surface printing combines a classic technique with beautifully drawn designs in a thoroughly updated color palette. Crafted with the textured look of traditional surface printing, these gentle garden florals, damasks, garden vines and small patterns have an authentic aesthetic reminiscent of block printed wallcoverings. The centuries-old surface printing method in which metal rollers print on coated paper grounds was the first type of automated wallcovering printing, and this tradition continues today.
