Small Talk
Welcome to the May edition of the Charlotte Sawdust. As the new Secretary for
the Charlotte Woodworker’s Association this is my first attempt to put this
newsletter together. If you have any suggestions for improvements, whether
large or small, I would love to hear them. Just look for the tallest person in the
room at the next meeting and tell me your idea. Or you can click on my e-mail
address below and drop me a quick note.
Fred Miller has been working diligently to update the member list for the club
and I have taken over that project from him. At the end of this newsletter is a
draft of the latest membership roster. Please check your contact information and
e-mail me if you have any corrections. Anyone listed as an “Inactive Member”
has not paid their 2007 dues. (Please keep in mind that inactive members are
not eligible for a discount at Klingspor’s Woodworking Shop.) I plan to
publish the complete membership list in the June newsletter.

May Program: "Constructing A Chest, the 18th Century Way"
For the programs for May and June, Fred Miller and John Goodson will be
demonstrating the construction of a small Chippendale chest, using 18th Century
joinery and techniques. The first program will cover wood selection,
construction of the case and drawer dividers/guides. The second program will
cover construction of the base, with ogee bracket feet, and the drawers. At the
discretion of the members, we may even go into a third program about finishing.
This will be a real piece of furniture, with fine hardwoods and authentic
hardware. When completed, we plan to display the piece at Klingspor and
Woodcraft, and then donate the piece in the Club's name to One Special
Christmas. We anticipate all the lumber and hardware to be donated.

Meeting Time
Meetings of the Charlotte Woodworker’s Association are held the third Tuesday
of each month, except for December. Meetings are held at the Well of Hope
Lutheran (formerly Incarnation Lutheran Church), 6400 Old Reid Road,
Charlotte, NC (off Archdale Drive).
A social and refreshment time starts at 5:30pm; our meeting starts at 6:30pm.
Come to the meeting early and get to know your fellow woodworking
enthusiasts!

Please consider writing an article for The Sawdust, this is your newsletter. What
do you want from it? What do you want to share with your fellow
woodworkers? Everyone likes to share, share your successes, failures, and
mistakes, have fun with it and share with others at the same time.

Wood Lathes for Sale -$400
2 Shop-made Industrial-size Lathes. Both were made 20+ years ago, by a machinist
in Lincolnton, NC.

The long lathe has an overall length of 90 inches, maximum stock length of 70
inches. The bed is 2 – 6 inch channel steel beams.

The bowl lathe is 2 – 8 inch channel steel beams. Included is an assortment of
pulleys and 7 knives.
