Message from our President
In celebration of another successful and amazing year, the 2015 Durham
Agricultural Fair’s success was largely due to our dedicated and talented
exhibitors. Without our exhibitors we would not enjoy the interest and
attendance from our fairgoers who come to see our winning entries year
after year.
I commend each of you for your dedication and hard work. Your time
invested, and the talent displayed at our fair is something our entire
community can take pride in. You deserve to be proud of your individual
contributions and accomplishments.
Our volunteers and department heads make great efforts to expand our
entry categories, review and judge each submission, and give each
entry a place to shine… Our exhibitors come through for the fair each and
every year – and it is worth taking note of, and extending our sincere
appreciation for those that have participated – but in particular, those
who have exceeded expectations and earned recognition.
This year, in honor of celebrating these accomplishments, we have
created a Commemorative Fair Book to showcase our winning exhibitors.
We hope this new approach will provide our esteemed winners a sense
of accomplishment while motivating others to strive towards an additional
goal. We hope you enjoy this token of our appreciation. Keep up the
excellent work – and thank you again for making the 2015 Durham Fair
another memorable year.

The Durham Fair is not only the largest agricultural fair in Connecticut,
but is also 100% run by community volunteers. Fairgoers come for
the food, award winning exhibits, animals, rides, and overall – some good,
clean, wholesome fun!

The 96th Durham Fair was no exception and did not disappoint. With
great weather and an increased interest in advanced ticket sales,
we saw fantastic attendance and enjoyed four fun filled days. We even
broke the New England record for the largest watermelon (192.5 lbs)
and the second heaviest pumpkin in Durham Fair history (1706 lbs).
It’s these types of traditions our fairgoers have grown to love and watch
for each year.

The Durham Fair is known for providing stellar musical guests and
entertainment. This years headliners included CMA Award Winner,
Martina McBride, ICM Award Winner, Craig Morgan, and ACM Award
Winner, Confederate Railroad.
With four stages, a variety of musical talents and genres, as well as our
local talent show all running throughout the fair – we know our attendees
enjoyed a VIP concert experience.

Scholarship Winners
2015
The 2015 Durham Agricultural Fair Association Scholarship had five
winning submissions. Each year students are selected based on criteria
such as community involvement and scholastic ability. This year, each
winner received $5,000 in scholarship funding for a grand total of $25,000
awarded. Congratulations to all our winners!

Durham Fair Foundation
Mission
The Durham Agricultural Fair Association, Inc. of Durham, Connecticut
formed the Durham Fair Foundation, Inc. in 1996. The Foundation
is organized under the auspices of the Internal Revenue Service as a
501c(3) organization. That means its activities are exclusively charitable,
educational, or scientific. The Foundation is a charitable, non-profit
organization.
The mission of the Durham Fair Foundation is, “To preserve and promote
Connecticut’s agricultural and rural heritage by sponsoring educational events,
programs and exhibits”. As part of that mission, the Foundation supports
and promotes the Durham Fair Farm Museum, located on the Durham
Fairgrounds. The Foundation continues to work to expand the museum
so that it may better preserve Durham’s rich agricultural history. To that
end, the Foundation was a major contributor to the improvements made
to the Museum in 2007. In addition, the Foundation further supported the
Durham Fair Association building projects by providing funds for interior
exhibit displays.

The Foundation’s Certificate of Incorporation states, in part, that the
Foundation, “shall at all times be limited to operating exclusively for
the benefit of, performing the functions of, or carrying out the purposes of the
Durham Agricultural Fair Association, Inc.” This statement has resulted
in the Foundation sponsoring exhibits and demonstrations during fairs as
well as seminars at other times, including several in 2015. Past seminars
included canning, the growing of giant pumpkins, beekeeping and maple
sugaring. The Foundation also acts as the charitable arm of the Durham
Fair Association with funds provided by the Association in 1998, 1999,
2006, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2014 and 2015. The Tractor Cruise-In has become the signature event for the Durham
Fair Foundation. Antique and modern farm tractors, pedal tractors, and
antique trucks assemble on the Fair Grounds in Durham, Connecticut
to take part. This family-friendly, fun and educational event is held yearly
in August.
