Join your neighbors in T.E.A.M. PTC (Together Efforts Are Magnified)
The Parks and Recreation Department seeks residents who would like to
volunteer some time (your choice - as little as a couple of hours to much
more) to assist our staff with special events and activities throughout the
year.
Some T.E.A.M. members have already worked on events like Touch A
Truck, Father/Daughter Valentine’s Dance and Memorial Day Ceremony.
They report having a great time and their efforts were very much
appreciated by our staff! There are plenty more opportunities to join our
T.E.A.M., so give us a call if you are interested.
Get behind the scenes in your community activities. You
can have fun and meet new people, while doing a great
service to your city!

Judo/All Sports Camp
Parents, try this camp out for size. This camp is one action packed week of all different
types of sports and games. While we focus on self-defense, that only takes up a couple
of hours a day the rest of the time we Swim, play Basketball, Dodge ball, Whiffleball, as
well have team competitions such as running relays and other team events. Last year I
ran 4 camps with an average of 20 participants ages 5-12. These kids interacted well
and made bonds with each other. We average about a 35% to 65% ratio of girls to boys
and have even had some camps where the girls out number the boys. All participants
need to bring a bathing suit, change of clothes, a bag lunch, drink and a towel. Cost is
$129 for the 4-day camps and $154 for the 5-day camps. Camp times are from 9am to
4pm. All students will receive a camp shirt as well as drinks and snacks each day of

Creative Artists
Location: Kedron Fieldhouse, Room 3
Instructor: April Parker
“Creative Artists” is a fun way to learn foundational art principles and concepts.
I believe drawing is something everyone can learn just like everyone can learn to
play an instrument. Learning to draw is the foundation of everything we will be
doing. However, drawing can take many different forms. I tell students that
painting is just drawing with a brush. In my experience students often get bored
or overwhelmed with a drawing lesson and no creative direction in how to apply
what they have learned. This class is called “Creative Artists” because I try to
allow students “creative” ways to display their learning process.
The cost includes all supplies throughout the year except a Spiral sketchbook (please bring the first day of class). There
is a $10 discount for siblings attending together.
Contact April Parker for further info: 770-599-0900
Creative Artist’s Agenda:
March: A Canvas of Impressionism: Students will learn about this wonderful period and how to create that style through thick
paint, messy brush strokes and the impression of light. We will be painting the Eiffel Tower on an 11x14 canvas. Please email the
instructor to see a page of student examples: [email protected]
April: In this project students will be using plexi glass to create their own stained “glassish” style painting. Leading paint, puffy
paint and acrylic are used to achieve this look. Students will learn about the Stained Glass master, Louis Tiffany and be inspired
by his art. Weather students are inspired to paint a bird, deer, flower or a landscape; this is a fun way to grow in their drawing
techniques.
May: This month’s project will be an 11x14 canvas painting in which students will use acrylics and their imaginations to create a
modern folk art style painting. In this project students will be taught a lot of the basics in drawing, painting and brush technique
to “paint what they imagine”. Students will get to choose their painting subject.

NEW PRICE!
Belly Dance is one of the oldest forms of dance. Tribal dances were done because they were happy celebrations,
and expressions of different moods. Today it’s considered a beautiful cultural dance. It’s expressive and an
interpretation of music. It is a great Americanized dance for fun and exercise for the whole body. It is wonderful
for flexibility of muscles and joints, isolating each part of the body to tone and strengthen-not highly aerobic-but
definitely an overall good way to work out, have fun and tighten muscles. No class on March 23 since it is Easter.

Clog dance is a dance of sound with the taps making the rhythms. It is truly American with Irish and Scottish

but up-beat, more pop music with very intricate foot patterns. Audiences at fairs and festivals love the cloggers as
they entertain with excitement.

Time: 7:30pm7:30pm-9pm
Instructor: John Lawther
Tai Chi Chuan is a very old form of Martial Arts that originated in China. A series of exercises were developed
to train fighters in areas of physical fitness, balance and centering. They were also used to develop the type
of relaxation that permits individuals to optimize their physical and mental abilities. Today it has been
recognized that almost everybody can benefit from these exercises. Recent research has indicated that Tai
Chi can provide better results in reducing falls among the elderly than weight training, balance training,
aerobics or stretching. And although the effectiveness of the training is increased when started at earlier
ages, the moves have been shown to be beneficial to all ages.
