J. LELAND SOSMAN AWARD USSA’s J. Leland Sosman Award is presented to a member of the USSA Physicians’ Pool who has made great contributions as a volunteer medical provider. In recognition of Doc Sosman and his endless commitment as a volunteer for the USSA, this award is given to an exceptional member of the "medical support team" who has provided outstanding medical coverage and service to the USSA athletes. Dr. J. Leland Sosman, known affectionately as 'Sos,' was an U. S. Ski and Snowboard Association volunteer leader and pioneer for over 50 years. His service to the USSA and the FIS community was truly legendary. While not a formal member of the physicians' pool, Sos was known for his energy, persistence and passion for USSA sports. This award recognizes that individual of the medical community who best exemplifies these traits. Nominations for this silver level award are made each year, with a selection being made through the USSA’s awards selection process.
