The Rollx Story:
Out of tragedy comes hope.
Rollx’s story and mission began more than 30 years
ago as a result of a personal tragedy. While skiing
during family vacation at Snowmass, Colorado,
13-year-old Tony Harris fell and suffered a life-ending
injury. Recognizing that had their son survived, he
would have used a wheelchair for the rest of his life,
Nancy and Wade Harris felt compelled to provide
assistance to people in wheelchairs.
Wade and Nancy used donations to Tony’s memorial
fund to purchase two wheelchair-accessible vans.
These two vans enabled them to provide more than
680,000 free rides for senior citizens and people
with disabilities.
But the Harris’ realized many wheelchair users still
needed personal accessible transportation. Wade
and Nancy founded Rollx Vans.

Wade Harris, a pioneer in the mobility industry and founder
of Rollx Vans, died on August 29, 2009 after a lengthy illness.
His legacy lives on.
Wade came from a very humble childhood. His mother died when
he was 5 and his father abandoned him, his two brothers and a
sister. For the next 12 years, Wade bounced among relatives. He
worked his way through high school to support himself, and was
not sure he would graduate.
Wade went on to embody the true American spirit. He saw
opportunities others did not. He opened his first business
in 1970, Associated Leasing. He opened four automotive
dealerships between 1973 and 1977. After his son’s tragic
death in 1978, Wade realized there was an unmet need in
the mobility industry and started modifying vehicles for
wheelchair and scooter users. Associated Leasing evolved
into a small manufacturing company that modified fullsized vans for people in wheelchairs. The organization
eventually became what is now Rollx Vans.
