With some of the most beatiful beaches of the Planet, the largest country of South America is home to the biggest rain forest and the second largest waterfalls of the world. All great reasons to visit a country which is also responsible for the most popular and cherful Carnival of the Earth. Apart from this, Brazil still charms all types of tourists from all over the globe with its climate, rich wildlife, history, art, gastronomy and, of course, the joy of its people. From North to South, Brazil always have a perfect destination either for business or leisure visitors. Language – In Brazil, the official language is portuguese. A small part of the population also speak indian, european or asian languages. Currency – The brazilian monetary unit is the Real (R$). Notes are: R$ 2 (two reais), R$ 5 (five reais), R$ 10 (ten reais), R$ 20 (twenty reais), R$ 50 (fifty reais) and R$ 100 (a hundred reais). There are also coins for R$ 1 (one real), R$ 0,50 (fifty cents), R$ 0,25 (twenty-five cents), R$ 0,10 (ten cents), R$ 0,05 (five cents) and R$ 0,01 (one cent). Time Zone – Because of its vast territory, Brazil has different time zones depending on the region. The most popular destinations normally lie within the brazilian standard time zone though, three hours behind Greenwich Time. Seasons of the Year – Spring (22 September to 21 December) | Summer (22 December to 21 March) | Autumm (22 March to 21 June) | Winter (22 June to 21 September). Distances – Brazil is a large country, so travelling from one city to another can take a while. Always check the distance between the destinations you will visit before buying your tickets or making hotel reservations. Transportation – The fastest and most effective way of getting around Brazil is by air, but you can travel around the country by bus or car (depeding on distances and your time), which can be inexpensive. Train is not a viable option for travelling around Brazil, but there are lovely scenic rail routes in some regions. Tipping – Brazilians do not normally tip. The invaluable city’s cultural heritage and its friendly people contribute to an even better experience. 1.1 City Tour (Half Day) Take your morning to enjoy the main attractions of Belém, including visits to the VerO-Peso market, Cathedral Nossa Senhora de Nazare (closed on mondays) and Goeldi Museum with its Zoobotanic Park (closed on Mondays and Fridays’ afternoon - entrance fee included). You will also have the opportunity to pass by the major places of interest of the city. 1.2 Museums (Half Day) Take half of your day to visit several museums of Belém, starting with the Goeldi Museum with the Zoobotanic Park. Continue to the Museu do Encontro with its anthropological exhibit and located inside Castelo Fortress, where the city was founded in 1616. Last stop will be at Polo Joalheiro, a building dating back to 1749, which was initially a convent then thecity jail and a penitentiary. Back to Regions 10 2. Manaus / Amazonas Manaus, the legendary “rubber metropolis”, is the capital of the Amazonas state. Although is located in the heart of Amazon Forest and considered the main entrance for those who want to explore the rainforest, Manaus is a very important cultural centre of the North of Brazil. Business tourism is also strong in the cosmopolitan most populous city of the state. 2.1 City Tour (Half Day) Travel alon g Ponta Negra Road (river front) until the floating port of Manaus, an unforgettable experience. The tour continues with a brief stop at the Rio Negro Palace, the old official residence of the governor and a beautiful example of the architecture on the “rubber golden period”. You will also visit the Indian Museum and The Salesiana Congregation, where you can understand the traditions, habits and behavior of the indigenous population. We will head to the Justice Palace and, to finish, “The Opera House”, a fantastic theater which was open in 1896 and, without a doubt, is one of the main attractions of Manaus. (Includes English or Portuguese Guide) 2.2 Rubber Museum (Half Day) Departure to Vila Paraíso (set of the movie “The Jungle”). The visit starts at the warehouse near a waterfront, place to board the rubber. Following visit the Rubber Master House, this majestic construction shows the Rio Negro (Amazonas) wealth of rubber plantations at the industry boom and war effort. The tour follows with a visit to the “Large Tent”, where the tools were kept under control, the “Chapel” and the warehouse for the manioc flour. Down the trail in the jungle see the rubber tree and the process to collect the latex. A visit where the balls of latex get into a smoking process, the very modesty house of rubber extractions employees portraying the life and habits of the old rubber extraction era. Returning to hotel, a brief stop at Tupé Beach with the possibility of swimming. 2.3 Meeting of Waters with Lunch (Full Day) Departure from the Tropical Hotel Marina on River Negro, sailing down the river you can see the floating port of Manaus with the amazon typical boats and the municipal market. After a short while the unbelievable meeting of the waters, where the River Negro and the River Solimões join to form the Amazon River, a short stop to observe this natural phenomenon now sailing up the river Negro until the Janauary Ecological Park where we can find the famous aquatic plant Vitória Regia (lilly pad). Soon after a ride in a motorized canoe through igarapés (creeks) of rivers Negro and Solimoes (in the dry season from February thru September, we will change into a jungle stroll). Lunch will be served at the floating restaurant with a visit to the indian handcraft stores. 2.4 Meeting of Waters (Half Day) Departure from the marina at the Tropical Hotel, sailing down the Rio Negro, sightseeing the downtown, Floating Port, Customs Building and the Municipal Market until the Meeting of the Waters, where the Negro and Solimões rivers join to form the Amazon River. Possibility of a motorized canoe in order to see the creeks and flooded areas and connecting channels between the Negro and Solimões Rivers (depending on the water level of the river), you will be impressed with the amazing beauty and exuberant forest. 2.5 Survival Tour (Full Day) Departure from the Tropical Hotel Marina towards the Tupé Village. A 2 hours jungle tour where different types of vegetation will be seen, identification of fruit trees, medicine leaves and roots and water sources plus the construction of small traps as well. Back to Regions 11 2.7 Alligator Spotting Night cruise with all the mystery of one night in the amazon jungle, sailing thru the channels, connections between the Negro and Solimões Rivers. Specialized guides using flash lights will show the night fauna, made up mainly by several species of alligators. The capture and return of the alligators will be simultaneous. 2.8 Mindu Forest Reserve (Half Day) Mindu Park Created with the propose to preserve ecological scientific and cultural in an urban area with one million feet of preserved forest. Walking down the trail, visit the orchid nursery, spot sauím-de-manaus (special small monkeys threatened extinction) surrounded by the exuberant fauna and flora. 1. Aracaju / Sergipe Rio Negro Bridge (Aracaju) Founded in 1592, the capital of Sergipe state was the fist planned city of Brazil, with a square grid layout. Modern and lively, Aracaju preserves a cozy and calm atmosphere and is considered of the safest cities of Brazil. Fortaleza / Ceará 25 km of beautiful urban beaches with white sand dunes and colourful cliffs are just one small reason why so many tourists arrive in Fortaleza every year. You can explore the colored Sand Dune Labyrinths, which were formed naturally between the dunes and cliffs, visit local shops with handmade works of art created inside glass containers or take an exciting dune buggy ride across the beautiful coastline (optional). 2.5 Canoa Quebrada (Full Day) The tour takes you down the Sol Nascente Route, towards the the perfect beach paradise Canoa Quebrada. Here we have ample time to swim in the warm inviting waters, or relax in the sun or the shade, and where a cold drink is never far away! The colonial town of Itaparica is just a short distance by local transport for those interested visiting this charming waterfront town (optional). We return to the schooner, raise anchor and set off for Salvador with the setting sun flooding the city with its warm glow. 7.4 Praia do Forte The scenic Coconut Highway leads to Praia do Forte, a fishing village 80 km north of Salvador, home to some of the best beaches in Bahia. As we drive north the appearance of the distinctive white sands of the sparse restinga vegetation, signals that we are approaching Praia do Forte. First we visit the ruins of the imposing Garcia D’Ávila Castle (1556), once the home of the largest landowner in the New World, set on the lands of what was the first farm in Brazil. From here we have a panoramic view of the northern coastline. Lunch time finds us in the village of Praia do Forte (Optional). After lunch we visit headquarters of the TAMAR Project, the national sea turtle preservation project and one of Brazil’s most successful ecological programs. The visitors’ center provides a unique up-close view of these majestic animals. Then time to relax on the beach or browse in the many local handicrafts stores before returning to Salvador. 7.5 Morro de Sao Paulo It’s located on North of Tinharé Island. We get on interesting way: cruising by Ferry Boat (All Saints Bay - 13km), going to the “Funil” Bridge (that connect the continent and the Island). Next we arrive in Valença (historic town), where we take a speed boat (10 minutes). Arriving at São Paulo Mount, we are going to 4th beach by walking, where we have lunch (optional). Return to the hotel. 7.6 Mangue Seco Mangue Seco is 220 km from Salvador in the extreme north of Bahia. It is the edge of a peninsula between the sea and a river among mangroves (hence its name Mangue Seco). No roads lead to this place. Coming from Salvador we cross the Real River which separates the two states in traditionally covered canoes . On the other side of the Back to Regions 18 river you will board a buggy car for a crazy 40 minute ride through the sand dunes. We will make stops for photographs and the ride will finish at the top ranked beach in Bahia beach for swimming. We will stop at a beach restaurant with food and drinks (not included), showers and hammocks to take a nap. The top beach in Bahia! At 3 pm we will leave the beach and head to the village to visit Tieta´s House (famous character of a Jorge Amado´s novel). There we will enjoy ice-cream. Returning to Salvador at 4 pm. Optional: Buggy car ride to hang out around the beach. 7.7 Cachoeira Cachoeira is a historical town and is 121 kilometers far from Salvador. There are many Baroque Architecture. On the way to Ca- choeira, we stop in Santo Amaro town to visit it’s church and see a variety of tropical fruits and how manioc flour is made. In Cachoeira, we visit Matriz Church, Nossa Senhora D’ajuda Church, Boa Morte Sisterhood, Santa Casa da Misericórdia, Nossa Senhora do Monte Church, a railway station and continue the trips to São Félix town through D. Pedro II bridge.
