noteworthy destinations
focus: New England
Fenimore Art Museum
Plan a trip to central New York state to view one
of the world’s finest collections of American art,
folk art and Native American art. Decorative
painters will be especially delighted with the
museum’s American Fine Art collection, which
includes works of Hudson River School painters. Visit before
December 31 to catch the special exhibit, Grandma Moses:
Grandmother to the Nation. The offices of the Historical
Society of Early American Decoration (HSEAD) are located
at the Fenimore’s sister museum, the Farmers’ Museum.

The Norman Rockwell Museum
A must-see for admirers of Norman Rockwell, this museum is
dedicated to the artist’s life work. Highlights of the museum
include enduring favorites from Rockwell’s Saturday Evening
Post covers, the powerful Four Freedoms and the nostalgic
Stockbridge Main Street at Christmas. Along with the artist’s
work, take a peek into Rockwell’s Stockbridge studio, including the artist’s materials and equipment, his personal art
library, furnishings, decorative objects, travel mementos,
hundreds of prints and artwork sent by fans. Shown from
the museum’s permanent collection is Triple Self-Portrait.

A newborn by museum standards, the Rufus Porter Museum and
Cultural Heritage Center opened in 2005. In September 2004, Julie
and Carl Lindberg purchased a two-acre property at 67 N. High
Street in Bridgton, Maine, with the intention to preserve the Rufus
Porter murals in the house and create a museum of his work. The
Cultural Heritage Center offered its inaugural series of workshops
this past July to continue the tradition of Rufus Porter. Museum
staff intends to offer ongoing workshops as well as purchase fifteen
Rufus Porter murals—known as the Westwood Murals—removed
from the Dr. Francis Howe home in Westwood, Mass., in 1965.

BASECOATING IS A THING OF THE PAST when
you paint on Viking Folk Art Publications’

IT’S POSSIBLE TO PAINT ON PVC AND
PLEXIGLAS?! Use J.W. etc.’s UnderCover on normally hard-to-painton surfaces—such as metal, tin,
tile, cement, plastic—and then
paint over it with ease. The waterbased, nontoxic product dries from
the inside out in less than a week.

CONGRATULATIONS TO PEACHY KEEN STAMPS for
winning SDP’s New Product of the Year (Kids
Category) at the 2006 Nashville Conference.
What’s especially keen about
this stamp line is that each
stamp attaches to a resuable
acrylic stamp block, so not
only can you see precisely
where you’re stamping, you
need only one acrylic block
for an entire set of stamps.
Shown are the stamp products
Natalee and Hot Cocoa.

Delta Creative Challenge
Once again, decorative painters are
asked to step up to the plate to
show the industry your creative
stuff. Use Delta Creative products to
paint, decorate, decoupage, stamp,
paper-craft or stencil in the 2006 Delta Creative
Challenge and win up to $1,000 in cash and great
prizes—including industry-wide notoriety.
Here’s how it works: select one of five color
themes (Retro, Tropical, Cha Cha Cha, Romance
or Vintage) and use Delta products to submit a
finished piece. Projects will be judged on originality, design and color interpretation; creative use of
products; and overall presentation and appeal.
Visit www.deltacreative.com for complete details
and a submission form. Questions about the
challenge? Contact Kim Latham at klatham@
deltacreative.com or (562) 695-7969 ext. 1784.
Send new product releases and website launch announcements to The Decorative Painter, attn. Inside Industry,
