City of West Covina Adopt-A-Park Program
The West Covina Adopt-A-Park program is a cooperative venture that celebrates community spirit and
fosters civic responsibility. The program is designed to enhance the condition and beauty of our City
parks through the volunteerism of individuals, community organizations, and businesses. Groups that
adopt a park make a difference by picking up trash, cleaning play areas, painting picnic shelters, and
more. Groups that adopt a park for six months or longer will be eligible to receive special recognition as a
member of the Adopt-A-Park Program.
Contact the Community Services Department at (626) 939-8489 for more information.
New Inclusion Playground Coming to Cameron Park
The City of West Covina is proud to annouce that it was successful in obtaining grant funds through the
The California Park and Recreation Society (CPRS) and Playcore for the CPRS Healthy Play Grant.
The grant will fund a new Inclusive Playground at Cameron Park which will allow all children to play in
universally designed play environments that increase the “playability” for people of diverse abilities, age,
race, gender, ethnicity, culture, and socioeconomic status.
CPRS is partnering with Playcore and Gametime to promote play and health across California through
state-wide training and an action grant. The City does not currently have an inclusive playground which
allows typical children to play alongside with children with special needs. The new inclusive playground
at Cameron Park will include a pirate themed playground complete with
wheelchair ramps and an adaptive swingset.
The West Covina Community Services department anticipates holding
of a Breaking Ground Ceremony at the beginning of 2016 with a goal of
finishing the project by March of 2016. CWC
The City is very excited about obtaining this grant as it was highly
competitive from agencies throughout California. The Community
Services Department continues to strive for full inclusion with its
recreation programs and this is another positive step forward.

City of West Covina Honored as ‘Playful City USA’
The City of West Covina was recently honored as a KaBOOM! Playful
City for 2013. West Covina is one of 37 cities nationwide to receive this
recognition for the first time.
Sponsored by the Humana Foundation, Playful City USA is a national
program from KaBOOM!, a nonprofit organization based in Washington,
D.C., that celebrates and promotes local policies that increase play
opportunities for children across the United States. The Playful City USA
program was established in 2007 to help local governments address the
lack of play in communities across the United States and to recognize those
communities that are making a commitment to play and physical activity by
developing unique local action plans to increase the quantity and quality of play in their community.
West Covina projects that received recognition included the new playgrounds at Palmview and Del
Norte parks, as well as the new splash pad and dog park at Del Norte Park. In addition, West Covina
was recognized for the many partnerships with local nonprofit organizations and businesses in an
attempt to maintain previous levels of community services programming and recreation opportunities
in the City.
For more information on the KaBOOM! Playful City USA program, visit www.playfulcityusa.org.
