Torrita Blues Festival is a very important musical exhibition that takes place since 26 years in Torrita di Siena,
in a very beautiful landscape in the heart of Toscana, also this has always been close to cultural activities in the
area.
Among the wonderful hills near Pienza, Montepulciano and Montalcino there is a small medieval castle, called
Torrita di Siena, where every year during the last week-end of June takes place one of the most important
Italian blues festival: the Torrita Blues Festival.
The Festival was born in 1989 thanks to a group of friends lovers of blues music, and this year is the 26th
edition, and it is a long-awaited appointment for lots of fans.
Lots of important and international artists were guests at the Torrita Blues Festival, and we would remember
some of the most important: Taj Mahal, John Mayall, Robben Ford, Roy Rogers, Bettye Lavette, Popa Chubby,
Canned Heat, Luther Allison, Charlie Musselwhite, James Cotton, Tom Principato, Peter Green, Magic Slim.
Thursday 26th
As past edition the festival start, on 2014 June 26th, with the famous “dinner in the square” where will play
two blues bands, winner of a Blues contest, named “Effetto Blues” (JESUS ON A TORTILLA and SLOW TRAIN
BAND) and a little surprise with another Blues Band very wait, TORRITA ORCHESTRA BLUES BAND. It is a
Blues experiment where the members of the band, normally play pop music, for Torrita Blues Festival will play
totally Blues. I refer, for example to CLAUDIO BRASINI, Guitar player and author of famous Italian Band
“BAUSTELLE”. Another member of this band is ALESSIO BENVENUTI, international master of Piano and Fiddle
who collaborated with famous italian artists like RICCARDO COCCIANTE or POOH. Other member of this band
are two professionist of music like Master ALESSANDRO MAIORINO on the Bass and Master ALESSANDRO
MINETTO on the Drum. EMMA DE NOLA, on the Voice and ALESSANDRO GIANNINI on the Harmonica complete
TORRITA ORCHESTRA BLUES BAND.
This experiment will be a big surprise for this edition of Torrita Blues and for the show of June 26th.
Friday 27th
The festival start with a gig of a promise of Italian Blues JOE CHIARIELLO & ROSARIO TEDESCO (acustic Blues)
winner of EFFETTO BLUES 2014. Than another gig of THE BLUES QUEEN recently finalist of a Blues Contest for
EUROPEAN BLUES CHALLENGE.
The concerts of friday will close by the great Bluesman LUCKY PETERSON (Italian exclusive. The only one italian
date of his european tour 2014 )
LUCKY PETERSON is one of the best musician in the blues scene of the world. He worked with B.B. King, Etta
James, Otis Rush. He is one of the monster of the blues who will be pleasure to listen at our festival blues of
Friday Blues.
Saturday 28th.
The festival start with another band winner of Effetto Blues 2014, THYRTY TRACKS, follow by another great
italian bluesman UMBERTO PORCARO & THE SHUFFLE KINGS. Torrita Blues 2014 will closed by an incredible
living blues artist, famous all over the world, the master of Harp, JERRY PORTNOY. I cite only two great
between his infinite collaborations : MUDDY WATERS with whom he played for 7 years and with ERIC CLAPTON,
4 years. I could speak longer of collaboration of JERRY PORTNOY, but I prefer stop me only at this two great
names to tell you how is great this blues artist.

Price of Torrita Blues:
as last years the prices of ticks remain the same: 15 € for each day of festival include the Dinner in the Square
of 26th. There is possibility of a subscription for two days at 25 € (you save 5€)
Free entry for the blues gigs of 26th if you don’t want dinner.
Availability seats with chair and a platform in front of the main stage.

Lucky Peterson
Lucky Peterson is the most dangerous triple threat working in the blues. He has gained a reputation as one of
the most preeminent performers of the modern era. A searing lead guitarist, fantastic organist, and first-rate
vocalist, Lucky’s many talents are truly mind-boggling.
Peterson is prime-rich in roots but performs in the present. But that’s just what one would expect from an
artist with Peterson’s resumé; his career began when he was just a child. Growing up in Buffalo, NY, Peterson
was exposed to music his whole life; his father owned The Governor’s Inn, one of the area’s most renowned
blues clubs. Willie Dixon produced Peterson’s first record when he was but five years old, the R&B hit, “1-2-34.” This resulted in television appearances for the blues prodigy on such shows as The Tonight Show, The Ed
Sullivan Show, and What’s My Line.
As a teenager he attended Buffalo Academy of Performing Arts before paying dues in the bands of Etta James
and Otis Rush. One of the most versatile players working in the blues, Peterson has since performed with a
long list of greats, including B.B. King and Albert Collins. His 1993 Verve debut I’m Ready announced the
arrival of a new force in the blues, while his 1996 collaboration with the legendary Mavis Staples saw him
displaying his gospel chops and influences. Peterson’s previous dates also include 1994′s Beyond Cool, 1996′s
Lifetime, 1997′s Move (all on Verve), and 1999′s Lucky Peterson, his first for Blue Thumb Records.
In addition to establishing himself through these recordings, Peterson has made his name through his
electrifying live performances, which are the attributes of a legend. He is working right now on his new album

Jerry Portnoy
Jerry Portnoy was born in 1943 and grew up in the blues-rich atmosphere of Chicago's famous Maxwell Street
Market during the golden age of Chicago Blues. He began his professional career in the late 60s and since that
time has performed, live and on television, for millions of people around the world.
During a career that includes six years as a member of the fabled Muddy Waters Blues Band, another six as
leader of the Legendary Blues Band, four years at the head of his own band The Streamliners, and another four
as a featured member of the Eric Clapton Band, his touring schedule has carried him to every state in the union
and twenty-eight foreign countries on six continents, with performances at the White House, Carnegie Hall,
Radio City Music Hall, the Smithsonian, London's Royal Albert Hall, and at major jazz festivals worldwide,
including the Newport Jazz Festival, the Montreaux Jazz Festival, the Warsaw International Jazz Jamboree, the
Hawaii Pacific Jazz and Music Fair, and the Grande Parade du Jazz in Nice, France.
Jerry Portnoy has played on several Grammy Award-winning albums while recording with a wide variety of
artists, and was a Grammy Award nominee in 1997 for his work with the Muddy Waters Tribute Band.
Television credits include appearances on Saturday Night Live, Soundstage, MTV, VH1, and the Disney
Channel, as well as writing and performing original music for Sesame Street. In addition, he has lectured at the
Berklee School of Music in Boston, and his definitive 3/CD instructional package, Jerry Portnoy's Blues
Harmonica Masterclass, is widely regarded as the premier teaching tool for those wishing to learn the
instrument. Jerry Portnoy now makes his home outside Boston, Massachusetts.

Umberto Porcaro
& the Shuffle Kings
Umberto Porcaro, singer, guitarist and band leader was born in Palermo in 1979, but for his musical style may
have been born in any town in Texas or California. In fact it is considered one of the most talented bluesman
in Italy, and his ability led him to be appreciated abroad, both in Europe and the United States. “Umberto
Porcaro & The Rollercoaster” was his first group and with this line up he recorded You Belong To Me in 2002,
followed by his attendance at major Blues and Jazz Festivals and has the opportunity to share the stage with
artists such as B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Robben Ford, Roy Rogers, Canned Heat, The Blues Band. In 2005 he
released his second CD Burn The Day Away with excellent recognition from Italian and foreign reviews.
Umberto in 2006 moved to the States on the West Coast, midway between Los Angeles and San Francisco.
Experience that took him closer to the giant exponents of the blues scene, with whom he performed around
California, just to remember some: Kim Wilson, Kid Ramos, Junior Watson, Hollywood Blue Flames, Mark
Hummel and RJ Mischo. Definitely important human experiences and music alongside these great artists have
shaped his personal formation and style. In recent years he has collaborated with the Feelin ‘Good Productions
“artists family”, with whom hehad the opportunity to tour Europe offering his talent to artists such as Andy
Just, Pat Wilder, Texas Slim, Vivian Vance Kelly and Brian Templeton. Umberto, after years of hot
performances “live”, has proven to be a musician of some artistic value, which has earned the respect of critics
and the public, becoming one of the most experienced veterans of the contemporary blues scene, and not only
in Italy! Featuring a rich voice, scratchy and passionate phrasing on guitar, pungent and pyrotechnic, Umberto
has been able to develop and blend in a natural way the jump blues of the Californian school with the Chicago
blues, adding a rough accent, sharp and aggressive, purely Texan: they are the hallmarks of a dynamic and
exciting musical cocktail. This new album sees him in the studio with his new band, the Shuffle Kings, formed
by Luca “Loppo” Tonani on bass and Lele Zamperini on drums, who create a strong and powerful rhythmic
section.
Both Luca and Lele have a wealth of experience really striking, that few others can boast. To further enrich this
disc there are two very “special guests”: veteran Max Lugli on harmonica, and the brilliant Henry Carpaneto on
piano, what a stellar line up! Pleasure Is My Business is the first album of the trilogy of recordings planned to
be released throughout 2013. Umberto’s guitar work is wonderfully versatile, and overall, this is an excellent
and totally successful modern blues-based set which incorporates elements from Californian Jump blues to
Texas blues and roll, displays of highly rumbustious goodtime guitarwork.. This album is undoubtedly going to
nail Umberto’s colours to the mast as a highly respected blues artist of the future and will, quite possibly, take
him into some highly interesting. The sixteen tracks collected here should, for best results, enjoyment and
maximum effect, be heard very loud in your stereo!

Torrita Orchestra Blues Band is a Blues experiment born by an intuition of Luca Romani, art Director of Torrita
Blues, in occasion of a Blues Jam of last Spring at the theatre, where great musicians of Torrita di Siena, some
very famous in the word of Pop Music and Classical Music, played togheter.
