In late December the Wyandot County Office of Economic
Development Inc. (WCOED), a 501(c)(6) non-profit
organization, made the decision to remove its affiliation with
Ohio State University Extension. A group comprised of the
Wyandot County Commissioners, WCOED Executive Officers,
and WCOED platinum-level members came to the agreement
that the transition was needed to further the effectiveness of
the economic development organization. The move provides
the WCOED with challenges, but more importantly an
abundance of opportunities for the future.
The agreement between the WCOED and OSU Extension was
formalized to provide the local economic development
organization with leveraged funding to support an Executive
Director. This structure offered a means for the WCOED to
build a base on which the organization could sustain itself.

from the organization's inception intended
to give board members a snapshot of the
overall impact.
The transition away from OSU Extension means that the
WCOED now has larger financial commitments to maintain,
but it also creates a full-time Executive Director to carry out its
mission in Wyandot County. The Wyandot County
Commissioners have also entered into a larger commitment to
the WCOED as the Executive Director is now classified as a
county employee. The WCOED Executive Director will still
serve in the additional capacity as Executive Director of the
Wyandot County Regional Planning Commission.

FNBS Announces Expansion
First National Bank of Sycamore President and WCOED platinum
member Dean Keller recently announced the bank’s plans to triple
the square footage of its main branch in the Village of Sycamore. The

FNBS has two other branches
in addition to the main office
in Sycamore:
currently 3,500 square foot facility will incorporate an adjacent drivethru space and two-story residential building that are already owned
by the bank to create the expanded 10,500 square foot branch. A twolane drive-thru with an ATM will also be added west of the bank.
To create space for the project and parking, FNBS will have to tear
down another adjacent home that it also owns. The newly added
McCutchenville branch
parking space will also serve the needs of the American Legion in
Sycamore. Sycamore council unanimously voted in favor of zoning
variances needed for the expansion to take place. The construction
phase is estimated to take up to 8 months and may start by this spring.
