The company began producing bicycles, mopeds, motorcycles, automobiles, tractors, trucks and busses. Its early years were dominated by three big names - Steyr, Daimler and Puch (merged with Puch and Austro-Daimler to form Steyr-Daimler-Puch), which form the Austrian roots of MAGNA. The design process is part of simultaneous engineering and also includes FMEA, early stage supplier involvement, team-work with customer, simulation and testing, production documentation and support for SOP. For the convenience of our customers the design is usually done in the required CAD system. Drivetrain components Engineering Center Steyr also develops, besides complete soultions, single components and related modules, which assist customers in reducing weight, improving fuel economy and reducing cost. Furthermore we are using Digital Mock-up for packaging investigations to ensure assembly as well as function in the vehicle. Vehicle tests are performed either on public roads, off-road or or on our on-site proving ground. All tests are carefully documented for future reference and if appropriate, suggestions for improvements are made. The fact that we handle prototype parts and assemble complete prototypes in house and establish gear and bearing adjustements helps to shorten the development time. Testing services are offered to our customers as single services for smaller components or complete vehicle testing. The test benches are highly flexible in the arangement and number of machines to be used for a specific test. Single components as well as complete 4WD/AWD drivelines can be tested in one set-up using up to 5 machines at a single time.
