History
The company Steyr-Daimler-Puch was
founded as “Josef and Franz Werndl and
Company” in 1864 as a rifle manufacturer,
but became known as Steyr-Werke AG
in 1924. The company began producing
bicycles, mopeds, motorcycles, automobiles,
tractors, trucks and busses. Its early years
were dominated by three big names - Steyr,
Daimler and Puch (merged with Puch and
Austro-Daimler to form Steyr-Daimler-Puch),
which form the Austrian roots of MAGNA.
Thanks to Steyr, the company even predates
the birth of the world's motor industry. When
you take a historical look at MAGNA in Austria,
you can see that we have been consistently
delivering satisfaction to our customers
for the last 100 years by engineering and
assembling vehicles to the highest technical
standards.

Concept & Design
Concept studies, patent investigations,
feasibility studies and cost assessment
are the basis for an optimum design. The
design process is part of simultaneous
engineering and also includes FMEA, early
stage supplier involvement, team-work with
customer, simulation and testing, production
documentation and support for SOP. For the
convenience of our customers the design is
usually done in the required CAD system.
Drivetrain components
Engineering Center Steyr also develops,
besides
complete
soultions,
single
components and related modules, which
assist customers in reducing weight,
improving fuel economy and reducing cost.
Furthermore we are using Digital Mock-up for
packaging investigations to ensure assembly
as well as function in the vehicle.

Prototyping, Testing & NVH
We are offering our customers the testing
and validation services according to specific
demands, relying on our own testing
facilities for functional and endurance
testing for complete drivelines, systems and
components. Vehicle tests are performed
either on public roads, off-road or or on our
on-site proving ground. All tests are carefully
documented for future reference and if
appropriate, suggestions for improvements
are made.
The fact that we handle prototype parts and
assemble complete prototypes in house and
establish gear and bearing adjustements
helps to shorten the development time.

Testing Services
Engineering Center Steyr is equipped with state of art test benches. Testing services are offered
to our customers as single services for smaller components or complete vehicle testing.
The test benches are highly flexible in the arangement and number of machines to be used for a
specific test. Single components as well as complete 4WD/AWD drivelines can be tested in one
set-up using up to 5 machines at a single time.

Testing sevices
Engineering Center Steyr plans, sets up the measurement equipment, generates the test
program, runs the tests, carries out the evaluation and generates a full documentation according
to customers demands.
