PONTEFRACT - RACE 1 - 14.10 (UK)
GOING: GOOD TO FIRM

PONTEFRACT: A left-handed oval undulating track approximately two miles around. Not an ideal course for long striding
types although plenty of stamina is needed to cope with the
uphill climb over the final three furlongs
DRAW ADVANTAGE: Low numbers best in sprints.

Lady Cecil enjoyed an emotional Royal Ascot win when Riposte
landed the Ribblesdale and she sends SUNRISE STAR north for
this maiden. A close-up fourth in what looked a good Newmarket
maiden on debut earlier this month, that will have brought her
on considerably and she’s expected to take some stopping.
Dutch Courage left a moderate Newmarket debut behind when
second at HQ last time and, while she represents the main danger, it would be folly to completely rule out Augusta Ada.

A competitive maiden for punters to get stuck into with The
Welsh Wizard setting the standard off a mark of 80. He finished three-quarters-of-a-length second to subsequent Epsom
Derby runner-up Libertarian over 1m2f here in April and is
respected for Charlie Hills. Astorgs Galaxy represents Ascot
Gold Cup winning handler Sir Michael Stoute and she’s noted on
the back of her Lingfield introduction, but DARE TO ACHIEVE
finished second to subsequent Group 3 Royal Ascot scorer
Remote in a Newbury maiden on his reappearance and this step
up in trip can bring about more improvement.

A smart piece of placement on Mark Johnston’s behalf means
his pair SALUTATION and Love Marmalade can take advantage of their weight-for-age allowances here. Pitched against
their elders for this assignment, the former is preferred on the
back of a highly encouraging sixth (beaten two and a half
lengths) in the King George V Stakes at Royal Ascot on
Thursday. Carthaginian is the most unexposed of the eight
going to post and is considered on her handicap bow, while
Haylaman rates best of the rest.

MAIN SEQUENCE drops back into Listed company having finished within a length of Mukhadram in a Sandown Group 3 last
month and he can show his class. A winner of the Derby Trial at
Lingfield last season, he went on to finish second behind
Camelot at Epsom before running with credit in the final Classic
of year (St Leger) at Doncaster. He’s struggled to find his feet
somewhat this season, but David Lanigan has handed him a
real opening and the first-time cheekpieces are expected to
sharpen him up. The 113-rated Brown Panther is the sole C&D
winner going to post and is likely to have been well readied in
preparation, so he’s noted along with Souviens Toi.

ORSIPPUS was declared a non-runner when engaged to run
here over the C&D a fortnight ago and he might have been
saved with this race in mind. The seven-year-old landed this
corresponding race 12 months ago off a 2lb lower mark and it
would come as no surprise to see him back in the winning
enclosure. Cloudy Spirit is partnered with Tom Queally and
Andrew Hollinshead’s stable star also boasts C&D winning
form, while Kazbow completed the hat-trick in good style here
over further in April and he’s another to consider closely.

KIKONGA was stepped up in class and seen to good effect when
making her handicap debut at Nottingham last month and, up

this stiff 1m2f trip looks right up her street. Miss Cap Estel
should be fitter for her Windsor reappearance in which she lost
nothing in defeat, while Roger Varian’s Huffoof could be one for
the each-way players now pitched into the handicap ranks for

PONTEFRACT - RACE 7 - 17.10 (UK)
GOING: GOOD TO FIRM
verdict
PONTEFRACT: A left-handed oval undulating track approximately two miles around. Not an ideal course for long striding
types although plenty of stamina is needed to cope with the
uphill climb over the final three furlongs
DRAW ADVANTAGE: Low numbers best in sprints.

(5) 6f (1,200m) 3yo Only Winner £3,881
MAGICAL ROSE won her maiden over a stiff 7f at Beverley and,
following a good performance in defeat over the same trip at
Sandown last time, the Elusive City filly should thrive over this
testing 6f. Up 2lb for her latest exertions, she’s well worth
another look. Of the others, Teetotal finally broke his duck at
Leicester last week and it is encouraging for his supporters to
see Silvestre De Sousa keep the ride, while Chasing Dreams is
also shortlisted.
