Class instructor, Laura Christianson, worked with CCU to bring this real-life simulation to over 100 of her students. The simulation started with each student receiving an ‘about me’ card which included an occupation and salary, if they are married or not, their spouse’s occupation and salary, student loan debt owed, credit card debt owed, and cost of medical insurance. From there, the students were sent out into the “real world” to build a monthly budget and figure out expenses. Volunteers staffed stations including: Really Realty and Utilites, Big Wheels New & Used, Mad City Mall, Kid Care, Gotta Eat, Fun Stuff, Home Stuff, My Closet, the Fickle Finger of Fate and, of course, the Credit Union. At the end of the simulation, if they budgeted correctly, they should have had no more than $100 in their checking account, with any excess going to paying down debt or into their savings. We would like to thank all the volunteers for taking the time to help us bring “Mad City Money” to Black River Falls High School! We have ordered name tags for all of our employees and they will begin wearing them on July 1st. We appreciate your feedback and will work hard to continue to serve you with excellence. Winners Announced Congratulations to Josh Folley, Debra Green and Monique Parent on winning a $100 VISA gift card by taking the Member Satisfaction Survey back in April. Thank you to all of the members who completed the survey. We were so pleased; there were over 1,600 completed surveys! We appreciate the opportunity to serve you and look forward to continuing to find ways to meet your needs. Always Be Alert – Keep Accounts Safe It seems that our news is often filled with updates on the latest scam or stories of hackers accessing accounts. No one is exempt from account scams; however, there seems to be more of an emphasis on the older population. In a recent CUNA News Now article, Terri Maloney, President/CEO of Catholic United Financial CU in St. Paul, said, “We know that senior citizens, and the Baby Boomers who have a great amount of wealth, have a big target on their backs,” when it comes to falling victim to scams. Maloney went on to say that, “Victims are not aware of the approaches that a con artist will take.” Your credit union is always looking out for suspicious activity on your accounts. We review multiple reports daily, and our staff will contact you if they spot something suspicious. However, we cannot catch it all; these scammers are very good at what they do. We strongly encourage you to monitor your accounts on a regular basis. If you see something questionable, contact us right away. Your credit union offers two different services for monitoring your accounts. Virtual Branch and E-Z Card Access provide up-to-date information at any time. For more information on either Virtual Branch or E-Z Card Access, please visit our website or see one of our representatives. We want your accounts to be safe. Thanks for Your Business!
