Docushuk – Israel's 2014-2015 documentary film crop Orna Yarmut Founding Director Zichrini Hatzor Katz Chaya Zeltzer DocuShuk Editors & Producers Premshay Hermon Executive Producer Lee & Tamar Studio Graphic Design Dear friends, old and new! This will be my third time heading the DocuShuk section, where I proudly present you with more than 100 wonderful titles. In this year’s crop we have several artist portraits, celebrating great Jewish and Israeli musicians, poets and actors – up close and personal. The story of David Perlov, a pioneer articulator of Israel's distinctive non-fiction cinematic language, is definitely not to be missed. We have an international murder investigation, a Norwegian expedition to the North Pole, the beautiful people of Sri lanka. We also get involved in espionage (a true Mossad legend) and the heroic search of a man battling cancer, for a cure. In fact, the universal battle with cancer is a mini-theme. Another CoPro mainstay is Israelis exploring their Identities from various angles: the Sabbath; the tradition of watching Arabic Movies on Friday nights; bicycles; hanging by the river; the difficulties of immigration; the great Israeli export “start ups.” But Family is still the greatest issue: father-daughter, mother-son, mother-daughter, a couple who wants to marry, but not before one of them becomes a woman. The holocaust and the occupation continue to preoccupy Israeli makers, and the later never cease to find new angles and ways to tell these stories. Of the 100+ films, many films are by known, reputable makers, but lots of bold new directors are cropping up too. My deep gratitude to my esteemed colleagues at CoPro, Chaya Zeltzer and the exceptional Orna Yarmut, CoPro's Founding Director. Just as making documentaries is a labor of love, so is promoting, marketing and distributing them. Enjoy! The date was symbolic: precisely 65 years earlier the General Assembly had recommended partitioning Palestine-Eretz Israel into a Jewish and an Arab state, but the Arab state never materialized. Why did the Palestinians fail where the Jews – in realizing their national aspirations in Palestine-Eretz Israel – succeeded? It is this question for which answers are sought in Hadrian's Curse.
