An Evening of - Kennebec Valley Community College
March 29, 2013 6:00 –10:00 pm KVCC Harold Alfond Campus Recreation Center Hinckley, Maine KVCC Foundation 7th Annual Gala Fundraiser An Evening of Jazz Welcome to An Evening of Jazz Thank you for joining us tonight! We look forward to enjoying a wonderful evening with you. Your attendance and participation is greatly appreciated, and will make a true difference to KVCC students! K V C C Table: _______ Bid Number: _______ Welcome! From Kathy L. Corey, Foundation Board Chair I humbly appreciate your attendance at tonight‟s 7th Annual KVCC Foundation An Evening of Jazz Gala. In the time I‟ve served with the Foundation, I‟ve come to appreciate that Kennebec Valley Community College is one of Central Maine‟s Best Kept Secrets. The dedication and quality of Students, Educators, Staff and Administration of this progressive and fast-growing educational institution is exemplary and “best in class”. Our Foundation‟s Board of Trustees, friends, and contributors are no different; and I feel proud to be part of this elite group of individuals. We are, however, challenged with the reality of the times: A growing demand for providing quality education to an emerging and unemployed workforce requiring skill sets for new employment opportunities. Greater institutional demands to expand and develop new education programs to meet these workforce needs. An expanding student population resulting in greater student and institutional financial needs. A massive physical plant expansion of KVCC campus with the addition of the Harold Alfond Campus. State and Federal funding shortfalls compounding both institutional and student financial needs. A competitive landscape and challenged local economy. As Chair of the KVCC Foundation Board of Trustees, I respectfully appreciate your participation and support. Many of you have donated your time, talents, and resources to the benefit of KVCC students and for that, we are all very grateful. Thank you... James McGuire ‘13 Electrical Technology Program I am currently entering my second year in the Electrical Technology Program at KVCC. I love working in the electrical field, and I know that my training will help many people in the future. My family is very proud of my accomplishment of successfully completing my first year of college. Affordable KVCC offers high quality instruction at a fraction of the cost of other colleges and universities. Although the cost is lower at KVCC, tuition can be a great challenge for students striving to succeed in college. Scholarships reduce barriers to education and enable students to enroll and persist in their studies. The Harold D. “Mickey” Marden Memorial Scholarship is aiding in the fruition of my dream of one day becoming a master electrician and owning my own successful company. I thank you for all of your support and generosity towards me. Thanks to The Harold D. “Mickey” Marden Memorial Scholarship, I have completed one more challenge, and I am one step closer to achieving my goals. I hope one day to be able to help people just like me to reach their goals just like I have. Telling the legendary tale of King Arthur and his knights of the Round Table, and featuring a chorus line of dancing divas, not to mention cows, killer rabbits and French people, Monty Python’s SPAMALOT “raises silliness to an art form." Silver Street has been a centerpiece of downtown Waterville since the early 1900’s. Originally, the building was home to Giguere’s Clothing Store, hence the ornate “G” on the beautiful stained-glass windows. In the early 1970’s, a major renovation transformed this structure into a landmark restaurant known as the Silver Street Tavern, as it has operated for more than 30 years. Donated by: Waterville Opera House and Silver Street Tavern Auction Rules Silent Auction: bidders must write their bid number and bid on the Silent Auction Bid Sheets located in front of each display. Imagine a 200 pound plus fish taking the bait and swimming off at 50 miles an hour. Jigging for ground fish is always exciting, never knowing what is on the end of the line as you reel in. Along with Blue Fin Tuna one may encounter many species of sharks, most commonly the Blue Shark but perhaps you will catch a Mako, Porbeagle or a Thresher shark. Although there are no guarantees of an allusive fish catch, you are sure to experience a tremendous nature show which may include whale and porpoise sightings. Your boat will leave from Rockland Harbor at 7:00am sharp for what hopes to be an action packed day of off shore fishing. Return will be by 5:00 pm unless there is a late afternoon bite. The boat can accommodate 6 adult anglers but is most comfortable with 4 adults and 2 younger anglers. Funds raised tonight will benefit KVCC students and programs and will ensure access to the high quality education available at KVCC. Why Scholarships? Although more than 76% of KVCC students receive some financial aid, the total amount of student unmet financial need is a huge burden. Students often struggle to fill the gap between financial aid awards and the cost of college. For many, this task is insurmountable. Have you considered establishing a scholarship fund? Establishing a scholarship fund is easy and rewarding for both recipients and donors alike. Scholarship recipients may use funds to pay for tuition, fees, text books, and course required tools and supplies. Scholarship donors receive a tax deduction receipt as well as a thank you letter from the student they are assisting. When available, scholarships are crucial to empowering student success. It has been proven that disadvantaged students who receive scholarship support are significantly more likely to persist in their education, earn a degree, and realize higher wages and increased employment opportunity. Scholarship gifts are an investment in KVCC students, tomorrow‟s workforce and your community‟s future. A wise investment which will empower students to succeed. Contact the KVCC Foundation to learn more, we are happy to assist! Kennebec Valley Community College Foundation The KVCC Foundation was established as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization in 1991. The KVCC Foundation Board of Trustees achieves this goal by raising funds to promote and support all educational programs; to provide stateof-the art equipment and facilities; and to ensure access through scholarship funds to needy students.
