Dear Telugu family members:
It is with great pleasure I have devoted my energies for the well being
of TANA as did many of our organization’s well wishers. There is no
limit to the growth of our distinctive organization as long as we focus
on issues with total consciousness. I have enjoyed the incredible
support of my family and friends all these years. I appreciate their
support and with gratitude I thank them all.
We are proud of our TANA Foundation and our TANA members for
their unwavering support with millions of dollars for education,
healthcare and infrastructure development of our motherland.
TANA is glad to continue our on going programs; Telugu language
teaching at University of Texas in Austin, International Internship
Program, back pack program with school supplies and scholarship
program for college students. We have started TEAM square a new
program to help Telugu families in US under distress. It is an
excellent program going well with total support from our members.
Along with TANA members all our Telugu community across the
globe fought for preserving Telugu as “Pracheena Bhasha” and we
accomplished it. Thanks to Central Govt of India for well deserved
recognition of Telugu as “Pracheena Bhasha”.
Our 17th biennial conference activities in Chicago are going on full
swing. During the conference time we will be honoring Sri S.P.
Balasubrahmanyam with Life time achievement award. We are
expecting around 8000 participants with talented artists and
accomplished leaders in various fields. We will have lively and
colorful cultural performances, literary and spiritual programs,
business seminars and excellent youth programs. I sincerely request
and urge all our Telugu community to register early and join the
celebrations at Rosemont Convention Center, Chicago from July 2nd
to July 4th 2009. Thanks to our selfless, enthusiastic volunteers for
their support and hard work to make this a memorable conference in
the history of TANA.
Sincerely,
Prabhakar Choudary Kakarala

Literary program
TANA Conferences have always given great importance to literary
programs. This year’s literary program with its audacity of vision and the
breadth and depth of talent promises to enthrall literary enthusiasts of all
persuasions. Several noted scholars and poets including the much celebrated
stalwarts like Akkiraju Sundara Ramakrishna, Tirumala Desikacharya,
Gollapudi Maruti Rao, Sreeramana, Vasireddy Naveen, Cherukuri
Ramadevi, Vanguri Chittenraju, Veluri Venkateswara Rao, and Malladi
Venkata Krishna Murthy will be participating in several interactive
programs. In addition to the ever popular avadhaanam, spearheaded by two
avadhanis of international distinction, Sri Medasani Mohan, and Sri
Rallabandi Kavitaprasad, this year’s program will also feature a unique,
new event, Netraavadhaanam (avadhaanam while communicating
nonverbally) by two gifted and talented women, Nidamarti Lalita
Kameswari, and Kasibhotla Rama Kumari. Renowned poets Sirivennela
Sitarama Sastri, Suddala Ashok Teja, Chandrabose, Goreti Venkanna,
Papineni Sivasankar, and Vinnakota Ravisankar will be reciting their
distinct styles of writings and discussing nuances of poetry.
In keeping with TANA’s motto of preserving and propagating Telugu
culture, the literary committee is planning several events to encourage our
young to sharpen their Telugu skills. Competitions in Telugu vocabulary
and extempore speaking should keep the youngsters excited.

plenty of exciting events to expand the social horizons of youngsters of all
age groups. Planned events include a banquet at the bustling Navy Pier

youth social service activities and spiritual experiences. In addition to the
seminars, the ever attractive tantalizing Fashion Show, invigorating
Basketball and Volleyball, stimulating Chess and Video tournaments,
social Mixers and thrilling Club Nights will engage and enthrall the youth
attendees.

Business Seminars
Technological Innovation and Cultural Celebration is the theme of the 17th TANA Conference. From its
inception, TANA’s goals and focus have been on celebrating and commemorating Telugu culture.
TANA’s cultural celebration is not only a celebration of the arts, humanities and customs of Telugus, but
a celebration of technological and business successes of Telugu people worldwide. The Business
Committee of the 17th TANA Conference is proud to present a two day Business Seminar in celebration
of such successes. We hope that you will join us during these two days as we guide you through
captivating panel discussions, informative and valuable networking sessions and key note speeches from
people with vast knowledge and experience in diverse fields.
A prominent and distinguished economist, Dr. Y.V. Reddy will deliver one
of the several key-note speeches. Dr. Reddy is a former Governor of the
Reserve Bank of India and an IAS officer of the 1964 batch. He has also
worked with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), serving as the
Executive Director in 2002. Throughout his career, Dr. Reddy has worked
on making the financial sector strong and is recognized and credited by the
New York Times for saving the entire Indian banking system from the
massive sub-prime and liquidity crisis of 2008 and beyond.
A few of the panel members that will be present at the Conference include
Ratna Yalamanchili, CEO of Himalaya Enterprises, a food industry
oriented company based in Chicago; Koteswara Rao Surapaneni, an
Dr. Y. V. Reddy
educationalist from Hyderabad; Vyjayanthi Cheedella, head of global
outsourcing of finance at SABMiller PLC headquartered in London; A.P. Govt. representatives from the
Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Federation of India Chamber of Commerce and
Industry (FICCI).
For the first time in TANA’s history, the Business Committee is coordinating a full two day Business
Seminar. The above mentioned invitees are a few of the distinguished guests that will take part in the

OPERATION ENVISION
More than 20,000 less fortunate people in Andhra Pradesh are having a better life due to the
sponsorship of almost 400 Eye camps conducted in various parts of the state. 12 hospitals
across different regions of the state are associated with this project and have been conducting camps regularly.
School screenings have been conducted and approximately 5000 children were given free eye glasses.
We have submitted our project details to Yahoo Employee Foundation with the help of a Yahoo employee Raj
Vemulapalli and they have granted their almost maximum amount of US$38000 for the project. This was possible
due to constant follow up and dedication to the project shown by Raj. We thank him for getting us this grant.
Operation Envision reimburses part of the expenses incurred by the hospitals to conduct these camps. Rs.400 per
surgery is given as a donation to the hospitals who conduct these eye camps. District Blindness Control Society
will give Rs.750 per surgery to the hospital. With a combination of these amounts a hospital is able to transform
the life of a person suffering from Cataract. Patients who do not require a surgery are given a prescription for
medication.
Project has been strengthened by three more volunteers Ms.Sucheta Nallamothu, Raghu Gajjala and Srinivas
Gogineni. Raghu Gajjala’s joining the project has enabled us to organize camps in Anantpur and Cuddapah
districts. 5 camps have been conducted in these areas under most difficult circumstances. Ms Sucheta
Nallamothu has been handling the camps to be organized in Guntur, Prakasam and Nellore districts. Srinivas
Gogineni our newest volunteer will be organizing camps in Krishna and Godavari districts.
Sankara Eye Hospital, Guntur has been conducting huge eye camps across Guntur district and is being very
effective in controlling the preventable blindness. Every camp conducted for TANA Foundation by this hospital
attracts hundreds of less fortunate and get benefitted in the process of living a better life with better vision. This
hospital was doing one camp per month for TANA Foundation. With the inauguration of a second wing, they will be
doing two camps per month for TANA donors.
Lions Eye Hospital of Karimnagar was given a donation for buying a Microscope which was most required by them.
CSR Lions Eye Hospital of Nandigama was donated with a 22 seater Ambulance and two air conditioners for their
operation theatre. We are hoping that this hospital will be able to do more effective camps with addition of the
much needed ambulance.
Rotary Eye Hospital, Vuyyuru which was established in 1985 has gained recognition and was given a license to
train young Doctors in Ophthalmology. This hospital is ready to train New Ophthalmic Surgeons from the US and
invites anyone interested to come to Vuyyuru and get trained. There can be no better opportunity for Doctors in
Ophthalmology in this country to get trained better. Rotary Eye Hospital, Vuyyuru had established a old age home
in association with TANA Foundation.
Dr Ranga Reddy Lions Eye Hospital in Secunderabad has been very cooperative in conducting eye camps going
far off distances in Telangana region. Their current set up is overstretched with the amount of work they are doing
in preventing blindness. A new hospital will be coming up shortly near Shamshabad as they gained recognition by
the Govt of Andhra Pradesh and was given 3 acres of land for the purpose.
All it requires to sponsor an eyecamp is for you to fill a sponsorship form and a check for $600. For effectively
handling the camp we also request the sponsor to identify a contact person in the village of sponsorship to help
with organizing the camp. There will be expenses to the tune of $100 for advertizing, shamiana, chairs etc.
Operation Envision volunteers will work with the nearest hospital to conduct the camp in the village of choice.
Operation Envision has been successful in conducting eyecamps with the help of sponsorers across the United
States of America. We wish that more and more donors come forward in helping with this great cause.

http://www.tana.org/matrimonial.htm NOW. This valueadded service would allow us to publicize the ads
immediately as we receive them. It would also make it
easier for everyone to browse through the matrimonials
at their own convenience and to reply easily, if an e-mail
address is provided in the ad.
It has to come to our attention that
divorced/widowed Men/Women above the 40-45 yrs are
hesitant to put their ad in the magazine for the fear of
revealing their identity. Request them to send their
information to me to enable me to maintain a special list
for that category. This list will NOT be published. If I
find a match, I will mediate between the parties.
Identities will not be revealed without prior permission
of individuals involved.

TANA Patrika will assign TMS # to each

to you. Confidentiality guaranteed. All correspondence

TANA Conventions Matrimonial Format
As you aware, we hold matrimonial meets in our TANA
conventions. Though most of you are happy with these
meets, some of you still want them to be in a different
format. We would like to get your suggestions/opinions
to help us finding the right format. Please let us know
what you would like us to do to make our matrimonial
meets more fruitful in our future TANA conventions.
Please e-mail your suggestions to [email protected].
