Sunrise, the
New Beginning
Teri Garcia and Alex Diaz
NOVEMBER 17, 2012
Teri
Garcia met her future husband, Alex Diaz, through
two mutual friends who had just started dating. “They thought
we were perfect for each other, [so] they set up a night where
we went out for drinks at Transit Lounge on somewhat of a ‘double-date,’” says Teri. Their friends were right: the couple was a
match made in heaven, and it didn’t take long for Alex to ask Teri
out for an “official” date.
The couple became engaged on a romantic trip to Key West
– Alex took Teri to dinner at the Hot Tin Roof, overlooking Key
West Harbor. “It was extremely romantic as there was even a
wedding happening right below us on Sunset Pier. I couldn’t
help but wonder if it was going to happen, however he had mentioned that we were only going to the Keys for fun and not to
expect a ring,” she says. Alex surprised her, however, when he
dropped to bended knee on their hotel room balcony and recited to her, “The sunset is the end of a day and the sunrise is
the start of a new day and new beginnings.” Teri was shocked
but responded to his marriage proposal with a resounding, “Yes,
of course!”
The couple wed at the Immaculate Conception Catholic
Church in Hialeah, Florida on a beautiful November day. The
church was Teri’s life-long parish and also the location where
her parents were married thirty-something years prior. The
bride wore a Jim Hjelm gown and carried her “dream bouquet”
of roses and peonies.
The party continued at the Rotunda Room at the Westin
Colonnade, selected for its historical significance to the city of
Miami and a mood of timeless elegance. Teri worked with Vivian Colls to bring to life her floral visions – centerpieces composed of blush peonies, roses, and hydrangeas and romantic
candlelight. “My graphic designer tied everything together
and transformed my ideas and wishes to paper . . . All pieces
included a vellum strip of a gold brocade pattern. The invitation, place cards, menus, and table numbers were printed on a
cream paper with gold ink and classic cursive font,” recalls the
bride of her experience with KayVee Kreations. “I worked with
Leyani Linens to select a color that would tie all aspects together
without being overbearing,” she says of choosing her rentals. A
dusty pink table linen was selected to accent gold beaded glass
chargers and gold chiavari chairs with cream cushions.
“It was truly a fairy tale – from the very morning until the
wedding reception ended, and even the continued festivities at
the bar! It felt like we were living a dream and floating on air –
everything was perfect,” she remembers fondly.
