PURPOSE OF THIS MANUAL This manual is intended to help the customer prepare for the installation of the SeaSpace Weather Decision Support System, Version II (WDS-II). This manual does the following: • • • • • Describes and illustrates the WDS-II hardware to be supplied by SeaSpace. Specifies the interface cables to be supplied by SeaSpace. Specifies the interface cables to be supplied by the customer. Illustrates the pedestal construction to be carried out by the customer. Lists the tasks that the customer must do to prepare their site for WDS-II installation. 2. WDS-II EQUIPMENT 2.1 SeaSpace-Supplied Major Assemblies SeaSpace supplies the WDS-II hardware listed below. See drawing 70960051, page 3 for an overview of system components. a. Antenna (drawing 70960052, page 4 and drawing 70960053, page 5) b. LCD Monitor, 20" (drawing 70960054, page 6) c. LCD Monitor, 24" (drawing 70960055, page 7) d. Keyboard, Trackball, Printer (drawing 70960006, page 8) e. Acquisition Processor and UPS (drawing 70960023, page 9) f. Associated Interconnect Cables (Table 3, page 14) 2.2 Interface Cabling a. Table 3, page 14, lists the interconnect cables supplied by SeaSpace and shown in drawing 70960021, page 10. b. Table 4, page 15 lists the customer-supplied inputs. SeaSpace does not supply the cables that attach to these inputs. The customer must supply the cables that attach to these inputs. Only NMEA 0183 Ship Heading and power are required. 2.2.1 NMEA 0183 Ship Heading Messages The NMEA 0183 message sentence sent by the customer’s equipment and processed by the WDS-II system is version 2.01, 2.30, or 3.00 with or without check sum. The sentence used can be either VTG, HDM, or HDT. HDT is the preferred sentence. The reading must be in degrees from true north or magnetic north. WDS-II Site Preparation Specifications 1 2.3 Heat Dissipation and Air Flow of the Acquisition and Processing Module Air Intake: Air is supplied to the Acquisition Processor by an air intake in the front. The intake has a filter. Air Exhaust: Heated air is exhausted from the back of the Acquisition Processor. The BTUs to be exhausted are listed in Table 1, page 13. 3. CUSTOMER PREPARATION CHECKLIST The customer must prepare the installation site for the WDS-II. Site preparation includes the following: Furnish cables and connectors listed in Table 4, page 15. Construct Antenna Pedestal (as described in drawing 70960052, page 4). Construct conduit run to hold the cable that connects the Antenna to the Acquisition Processor. Plan space for the Acquisition Processor and UPS. Plan table top space for the monitor, keyboard, trackball, and printer.
