you call to inquire. The cost of the services will depend on the options
you select with each business.
• Estimate the total number of guests you will have for quotes
from the vendors
• Have a tentative date or list of date options
• Use the Frankenmuth Wedding Guide or frankenmuth.org as a
resource to locating vendors that meet your needs in the
Frankenmuth area
• Set a budget early in the planning process
• Begin searching for a ceremony location and a reception location
that both meet your date and space needs (selecting menus and
planning details with each facility will come later, although menu
selection is often important to stay within your budget)
• Select a wedding officiant
• Request information from service providers such as a bakery for
your cake, a caterer if your reception facility does not offer
on premise catering, entertainment, florist/décor, invitations,
photographer, spa or salon services and transportation
• Shop for your bridal gown, grooms attire, bridal party attire
and accessories
• If you have guests that need lodging in the Frankenmuth area during

• Contact the Frankenmuth Convention & Visitors Bureau at

Where to Apply for a Marriage License:
Residents of the state of Michigan need to apply for their marriage
license in the county in which one of them lives. Non-residents need to
apply for their marriage license in the county where they plan on getting
married.

What you Need to Apply for a Marriage License:
1. Picture identification such as a drivers license
2. Certified copy of your birth certificates (foreign birth certificates
need to be translated into English and be notarized)
3. Your parents’ addresses and your mothers’ maiden names
4. If either person has been divorced, you will need to know the date the
divorce was final. If it was within the last 6 months, a copy of the
divorce papers that can be left with the clerk is required
5. To expedite the process, it is helpful to complete and bring the marriage application form at the time of application. For Saginaw

planning your wedding
When to Apply for a Marriage License:
Once an application is made, there is a three-day waiting period and the
marriage license can be picked up any time thereafter. If the three-day
waiting period falls on a weekend, the license can be picked up on the
first working day. In some instances, the waiting period may be waived
by the county clerk. The license is valid for 33 days from the time of
application.
Who Needs to be Present to Apply for a License:
Only one of you must be present to apply for the license. However, that
person will need copies of all the appropriate documentation previously
listed for both parties. If you are non-residents of the state of Michigan,
both parties should be present.
Who may Perform Marriage Ceremonies:
Marriages may be performed by federal, probate, district, and municipal
judges, and district court magistrates in their court area; mayors in the
county where their city is located; county clerks; ministers and
pastors of the gospel. There is a list of officiants for the Frankenmuth
area in this wedding guide. The district court judges and the magistrate
for Saginaw County are also available by appointment. The appointments
for a ceremony must be made directly with the respective judge or
magistrate after application. Any questions regarding appointment
times, fees etc. can be answered by calling the District Court Office:

(Note: Some counties do not accept checks and may have higher fees)
Age Requirements:
The age for getting married is 18 without parental consent and 17 with
parental consent. If under 16 years of age, the person and parents or
guardian must appear before the probate court judge at Juvenile Court
to state their case. The probate court judge will then decide if the
marriage should take place.
Witnesses:
Witnesses must be 18 years of age. Two witnesses are required to sign
the license.
