Drinks, delectables and distractions will be enjoyed! We couldn’t find a public venue for our foray, so our generous President, Paul Wosika and Membership Chairperson, Wanda Hays are offering their humble backyard for the festivities. Three cheers for the Prez and the Mrs.! The Guild will provide hot dogs, hamburgers, buns, drinks, ice, cups, plastic ware, etc. Bring your family along with some side dishes, desserts, chips, dips…you get the idea. Also, bring chairs, Frisbees, a Bocce Ball game or whatever else you want to play. And bring chairs, too! The pool temperature is heading down with the rains we’ve had and the cool temps at night, but if you’re brave and want to take a dip, bring your swimsuit, too! Did I mention to bring chairs? Oh, yeah, I did. Time to get EXCITED! The Sale and Judged Exhibit is on for November! Hopefully we will still get a few more people to participate, but the amount who have said yes have made it worthwhile to host. We need everyone to get the word out by whatever means necessary. Tell everyone you know: co-workers, church members, people in line at the grocery Su rveySays! store, the babysitter (or their parents), your waiter...everyone! If someone knows anyone who works for local television, newspaper, How do you make a copper foil radio, etc., please tell Paul. We need to get all the human-interest stories (a.k.a. free advertising) we can get! The Judged Exhibit rules panel structurall y sta ble? Check design for weak areas and will be handed out at the Picnic. The rules and details of the Sale and adjust if possible. Judged Exhibit will be discussed at the October meeting. Come on Insert reinforcing strips between folks! This is your club, your sale, and your competition! Get glass pieces and solder in. involved, get excited and let’s have fun! (And make some Christmas Use zinc came around edge. Avoid designs with all (mostly) money, to boot!) vertical or horizontal lines. Solder wire on edges of free form designs to strengthen. What should you not do? Try not to have any pieces more than 24 inches long. Watch design for straight lines across entire panel. Don’t kick the dog when you mess up your panel. (There’s that one in every crowd again!) Survey taken by Lea Wimmer New Officers A committee has been set up to nominate new officers for next year. Members of the committee are Richard Young, Dan Anderson and Harry Wallace. If you are willing to serve as President, Vice President, Secretary or Treasurer, or if you want more details of the duties, please contact any of the committee members or present officers. The Membership Committee Chairperson position will also be available, so if you think you’re not quite ready to be an officer, this is a great position to get to know all the names of and a little bit about your fellow club members. (Wanda says this is the best job of all! But, then, she’s a little biased!) The Stained Glass Window Page 2 Volume 9, Issue 9 Build a Kaleidoscope, part 2 (that’s 2 in Cherokee) Jim Perkin presented the second half of a dynamite program on Kaleidoscopes. Great job Jim! Set up and rarin’ to go! Tools and supplies at the ready. Mirror marked and taped. Unique cleaning tool – handmade, of course! Measuring for fit. Show and Tell Dan Anderson made a panel that represents a view into a kaleidoscope. Very creative and impressive! Ron Rose brought a wooden lamp form a friend made. He discussed other types, too. Can’t wait to see a lamp, Ron! Richard Young brought three bowls he and his wife made. Awfully impressive for ones new to slumping! Paul brought a mosaic lamp that hangs on his patio. Nice colors, Paul. Francis York brought boxes for notepapers, but we didn’t get a picture. Sorry, Francis! And John Carrara brought modified pliers, but that photo was way out of focus! We never claimed to be professionals! * sigh * The Stained Glass Window Page 3 Volume 9, Issue 9 It’s That Time of Year Dues have now officially come due. Send your check or cash and any changes to your information to our Membership Chairperson, Wanda Hays at 9011 E. 27th Pl., Tulsa, OK 74129. You can also give her your money at the sign-in table before the meeting. Wanda is working with the publication staff to get an updated roster to you with your October Newsletter, so if you don’t want to be left out, get your dues and updates to her ASAP! (Did you know you couldn’t be in the November sale if your dues aren’t paid? How will you make that extra Christmas money? Get those dues in today!) Good Karma or Good Luck? Wow! We had three, count ‘em, THREE people win door prizes last month that won door prizes the month before! (That alone is worth the price of dues, excluding all the many other perks of being a member!) Here’s how the divvying up went: Charlie Birnie won a bevel set from Tulsa Stained Glass; Richard Young won a book, “Fused Glass Fan Lamps” from Art Glass Emporium; Sharon Richards won some patina from The Glass Station; Thom Keach won a bevel set from Rayer’s Bearden Stained Glass and Loyd Garrison won a copper foil sampler set from Paul Wosika and Wanda Hays. Kudos to Mike! Our very own Vice President, Mike Hardgrove, has been elected to another office! Along with his day job and sitting on various boards around town and being our own VP and in-house photographer, he now proudly wears the moniker of ‘Vice President of The International Chaplin’s Association’. We looked for a picture of Mike to showcase here, but since he is always in back of the camera, you’ll just have to go by memory of what he looks like. We’d say Mike is going to be a very busy man soon! Be sure to congratulate him at the picnic! See, clean living pays off! Goodies, Coffee and Juice If you eat or drink at the meeting, (and we know who you are…) then please sign up to bring! There’s only two months left after this month and this is such a small way to contribute to your club. Turn in your receipt to the Treasurer and you will be reimbursed on the spot for your purchase. Also, there is a money donation box on the goodie table for purchasing coffee and juice cups, napkins, utensils, etc. That’s another way to contribute to your club. This is what the list looks like for the rest of the year: September October November Food/Goodie PICNIC Marke Crouch Lea Wimmer Coffee PICNIC _______________ Koni Lehrman Juice PICNIC _____________ Nelson Myers As you can see, there are two spaces needing to be filled. The sign up sheet will be somewhere at the Picnic. Please participate. * The ‘note-taker’ position at the meetings is still vacant. Please let Paul or Mike know you want to take over this easy job, which will only last through the end of this year. Big THANKS go to Harry Wallce for August notes and Sharon Richards for July notes! * We want to thank the following shops for their continued support. They donate our door prizes and offer us help when we are in need. They offer a wide variety of glass, tools, supplies and classes. Please show your appreciation by patronizing their shops.
