Regent’s Reflection
Brothers,
Coming off the great news of being
named the number three international
collegiate chapter, we rejoiced and
recognized all the hard work that
came from the Brothers before us to
get us where we are today. Though, as
a chapter we knew it would take great
efforts to keep this "well-oiled machine" running smooth down the
tracks. The Brothers once again this
semester stepped up to the challenge
not only meeting expectations, but
transcending them in many areas of the Brotherhood. From
fundraising breaking past records to the great number of
community service hours the Brothers submitted, I stand tall
when I point and say, "There...that is my Brother.” With the
eve of the next semester upon us, I am optimistic of the
growth the chapter will
see in the spring with the sustained
hard work and dedication the Brothers continue to exemplify. I look forward to the chapter selecting a strong class of
quality pledges to make up
SPC'15 and begin to forge the solid future of our chapter though a
conscious effort to reiterate the
rituals of both the chapter and of
the fraternity. In closing, I am
eager to begin to work toward
the goals set before us this spring
and the great opportunity to
reach those goals alongside my
Brothers.

Chad Batey

Fall Rush
Fundraising
Brother Kehmia Tangeh lead the rush committee as pledge
master. With Epsilon Beta recently inducting the largest
pledge class the chapter has witnessed up to date, the presence of Kappa Psi was felt amongst the P1 class not only at
orientation but when we hosted our interest meeting on August 26th. As brothers were decked out in their scarlet and
cadet gray, we informed students on how fly Kappa Psi is.
Not only did we worκ hard but we plaψed hard this semester
to make rushing as enjoyable and memorable as possible.
Meet N’ Greet with Meat N’ Greeks- September 8th
There’s nothing like enjoying a delicious burger or nachos
from a San Antonio favorite such as Chris Madrid’s, especially when it’s with potential pledges! While hanging out on the
patio, the rushees were able to get to know the brothers on a
different level as they scurried around playing a game that
involved them trying to identify random, fun facts about the
brothers. It was a pleasure to see alumni and faculty brothers
take time out of their busy schedule and kick back and enjoy
themselves at the chapter’s first rush event of the semester.
Karaoke Night- September 26th
Many rushees were all about that bass (no treble) at our annual Karaoke night. The night was filled with wonderful performances by alumni and faculty, different pledge classes,
and a special performance by Epsilon Beta’s own notorious
rapper, Brother Danielle Johns. With no singing skills required, everyone had fun and “Let it Go.”
Tons of Fun- October 8th
What is life if you’re not having tons of fun? As one of our
newest rush events, it consisted of activities that not only
brought out the competitor in our rushees but reminding them
they could still have tons of fun while in pharmacy school…
“worκ hard plaψ hard”, right?
Casino Night- November 12th
We may not have been in Las Vegas but we sure came close
with Casino Night. As the last rush event of the fall semester,
everyone’s poker faces were in full effect. For those who left
their poker faces at home, they didn’t forget to bring their chef
hats as they entered our annual cook-off/potluck. Congrats to
our very own, Brother Ashley George, for winning “Best Dessert” with her scrumptious, mouthwatering apple pie.
Thank you to everyone who made rushing not only successful for the chapter but unforgettable for the
rushees. PTBYB
This year brother Gene Fite led the finance committee. Epsilon
Beta once again partnered with UIW athletics to help manage
the crowd for the Cardinal’s home games. There were five home
games and the fraternity was paid $500 for each worked.
Many brothers stepped up to help on more than one occasion,
and some even brought dedicated friends and family members!
The boo-grams, now a somewhat of a tradition at FSOP, generated nearly $1200 in October. A brilliant idea from the committee to sell fleece blankets at the November province proved
to be extremely successful, selling over $1500 that weekend
alone. Of course all thanks belongs to the brothers of Epsilon
Beta; only through their hard work and dedication to our fraternity was this possible.
Social
Brother Bita Davani leads the social committee this year.
This fall semester has been a great start to the new year
for all the brothers. The social committee broke into the
new semester at Haufbrau where we enjoyed the company of our brothers and grad brothers. It was truly refreshing to see everyone and catch up. Many active and
graduate brothers came in their creative costumes for
our Halloween costume party at 4th
Quarter Sports Bar.
We got to continue
the fun at First Friday
Pub Run and Wurtzfest. The fun continued at the annual
tacky sweater party at
Howl at the Moon,
where our current
GCD and former GCD
showed their smiling
faces. It was truly a
great semester to
help relieve some
stress with all our
brothers.

Transitioning to a
Graduate Brother
Graduate Relations chair Melissa Martinez caught up
with Epsilon Beta’s newly graduated Brother, Dr.
Jonathan Jean who practices in Houston, TX. Graduate
Brother was more than happy to share his experiences in transitioning from a student into being a Doctor
of Pharmacy.
Brother Dr. Jonathan Jean: I must say, the transition from student to an active pharmacist has
been exciting. Education is coming full circle from a
student to one who now gives instruction. I feel
very blessed to have landed an opportunity with
Walmart and have been doing all I can to better
myself in every way. As a new pharmacist, I’ve
been eager to develop my skill set not only as a
pharmacist, but as a business manager, which has
been challenging yet rewarding. With this approach, we as new grads can make the biggest impact in the field and in this small world of pharmacy, word carries quickly! Recently, I was offered a
management position here in the Houston market
but feel I still have lots to learn before taking that
next step in my career. The foundation we’ve developed at FSOP has given a great launching pad to
excel and stand out in our careers.
Community Service
Leading our Community Service Committee this year
is Brother Linh Nguyen. Each month, Brothers have
had the opportunity to participate in community service
events organized by the committee. On September
27th, we had some Brothers volunteer at the Run Walk
for AIDS with the San Antonio Aids Foundation. It was
a fun event for Brothers who participated as well as a
great bonding opportunity between Brothers. Our official second community service event was the Graffiti
Wipeout with the City of San Antonio on October 25th.
It was the first time that we helped with this project.
Many Brothers came out to help wipe out graffiti in an
area of San Antonio and help restore the city's beauty.
We have heard some great positive feedback about
this event from our Brothers, and we will definitely organize another event like this in the future. Our last
official event was hosting the Blood Drive at FSOP on
November 24th. One hour of community service was
awarded to Brothers that donated blood at this event.
These are just some of the highlights of events we
have hosted; throughout the semester, our Brothers
have helped/volunteered at many events inside and
outside of school. Thank you to all of you for participating and making a difference in our community.
