Forney ISD eBook Handbook Page 5 v12.8.12 Troubleshooting & Repair Procedures Step 1 – Troubleshooting Tips My computer won’t turn on. Is the battery charged and connected correctly? Is the computer plugged into an electrical outlet? Are all power adapter connections securely fastened? Did you delete files from your computer that you did not create? Do you have a floppy drive attached with a disk in drive A:? My computer won’t let me log onto the computer / network. Do you have the network cable fastened correctly into the RJ45 port or network connection and the wall socket or do you see a flashing light on your laptop indicating a wireless connection? Do you have the wireless switch (located on the front edge of the laptop) in the “on” position? The green indicator should be showing. Are you typing your login and password correctly? Passwords are case sensitive. Did you put any extra spaces or letters in your username? Are you new to the campus and your account is not set up? My computer won’t let me print. Do you have the correct printer installed? Check the Room # for the printer. Did you select the correct printer from your list of printers? Do you have the margins set to be within the range set up by the printer? I can’t find the file I was working on yesterday. Did you save the document? Remember, save your work often. Use Start and drag up to Search. Use the search feature to type the name of the file you were working on and let the computer search for the document. Step 2 – Get Help If you are having technical problems at school: Use the “Rule of Three.” Ask three other people to help you (fellow students are good sources of help).
