resistance to external aggressions (UV, temperature
variations, rain…). Our teak, selected for its high oil
content, is dried then steam-treated to make it rotproof. Tectona also pioneered the use of synthetic
materials such as woven resin, which is used around
an ultra-light aluminium frame. Powder-coated
aluminium, cast or in tubes, combines lightness with
robustness and does not rust. With regard to fabrics,
such as Batyline and Sunbrella: these are selected for

teak : a wonder material
properties
Teak, a dense wood belonging to the Verbenaceae
family and native to tropical regions, is a material that
looks great and is optimally adapted to life outdoors,
as it secretes an oil that confers protection against
rotting and humidity.
Moreover, furniture in teak is undemanding. Teak
can be left outdoors all year round and it becomes
more regal with age, blending discreetly into its
surroundings. Teak does not split, and any cracks
that appear on the surface are small. Over time, if
teak is left untreated, a characteristic silver patina
develops, lending the wood a weathered look that
many have admired in traditional English gardens.
The patina has no effect on teak’s properties. It is
recommended to clean teak furniture once a year
with soapy water.
guarantee of longevity
To guarantee the exact source of the teak used in
our furniture, our suppliers track logs as they are
transported from the plantation to the sawmill, and
select only pieces with straight grain free of knots.
Tectona only uses solid teak, with bench legs cut from
a single board. The wood cuts and the mortise-andtenon joints ensure solidity and resistance during
exposure to variations in temperature and humidity.

long-term collaboration with Christophe Delcourt
Since starting out in the 1990s, Christophe Delcourt, though lacking formal training,
learned all he needed to know about wood and about joining techniques via contact
with talented craftspeople using traditional methods. This designer-editor remains
guided by his passion and understanding of noble materials, and today he is renowned
for his contemporary, well-crafted pieces.
Christophe Delcourt’s style is timeless and elegant, attentive to function, characterized
by frank, essential lines, seeking balance in proportions without frills, and always
conscious of comfort. He likes to define furniture as “a long-term investment, a
companion for life”.
With Tectona, Christophe Delcourt has achieved best-seller status, notably with the
Shanghai, Exeter and Copacabana collections. During a collaboration spanning fifteen
years so far, he has designed no less than eight outdoor furniture collections, all of
which have become perennial successes.

This collaboration bears fruit once again: this year, Christophe Delcourt has designed
a chic and welcoming sun lounger for the iconic Copacabana collection. The design,
rational and minimal, places the focus on the wood. Comfort is guaranteed by the astute
combination of teak and Batyline fabric, and is further reinforced by the generous width.
The backrest has 6 reclining positions. Here, details are not for the sake of details but
serve to underline the quality of the design.
Beneath the seat is a storage space for towels and books, extremely handy poolside for
protection from splashes. Proof once again that an item of furniture can be smart when
it fulfils its function as best as possible. Tectona expects no less.

soft design evolution
partnership with ECAL
Tectona cultivates the art of forging new links in design. And in doing so lays the
groundwork for the future. It was only natural that one day a collaboration would
be established with one of the leading art and design universities in the world, ECAL.
The Lausanne-based school was founded in 1821 and today has 600 students of
40 different nationalities. Its educational ethos is centred around reinventing itself,
innovating and creating new models.
Students enrolled in the master’s programme in product design were invited to
reinterpret the Glenwood bench, an emblematic piece from the Tectona range.
The redesign called for a carefully measured approach, with close observation of the
existing object, leading to evolution rather than revolution. The collaboration proved
to be a stimulating exercise for both sides.

Lausanne bench
The project finally chosen for development was that of Anthony Guex, a 27-year-old
native of Lausanne, whose design represented the optimal balance between present
and future.
The combination of aluminium and teak lends a thoroughly modern allure to this
traditional bench. Incorporation of metal translates into a lighter bench and also
introduces colour options. Although the aesthetics have been redefined, the piece
retains all its elegance.

Chelsea is an outdoor lounge in aluminium designed by Constance Guisset Studio. It consists
of two types of unit that can be arranged to suit the occasion, providing generous seating space
or a more intimate setting. Timeless elegance is achieved by the use of light, continuous lines
describing the feet and the backrest, around which runs a ribbon delimiting the seat. The silver
grey colour subtly and discreetly blends into the surroundings, as do the heather grey cushions
in natural fabric. Two softly contoured coffee tables made from aluminium and teak complete

The Pebbles designed by Erwan and Ronan Bouroullec are remarkable in their conception:
woven resin embracing an aluminium frame of simple and perfectly proportioned contours.

The reissue, in 2006, of the bench that had belonged to Madeleine Castaing highlights
Tectona’s close ties to the history of design. The “great lady of decoration”, muse
and patron of Chaïm Soutine, chose this perfectly proportioned restoration bench for
her garden. A sign of the times, the bench is now considerably lighter, since it is
now fabricated from aluminium. This corrosion-proof material is the perfect choice
for the comprehensive range of outdoor furniture to which the bench belongs.

During fabrication of a Tectona table, enormous care is
exercised during joining. Use of dowelled mortise-and-tenon joints
reinforces the long-term stability of the table legs: the holes for
dowels are very slightly shifted (by less than 1mm) such that the
two pieces of wood are pulled together.

In keeping with the modern feel of the Exeter collection, the Exeter table features
wide slats and slender legs, which however have no impact on the stability and
manoeuvrability of the table. A notable feature of this piece is the removable leaf *

Following a commission by Tectona, the English design agency Industrial Facility
conceived a table and armchair in powder-coated aluminium. The supersized armrests
and legs of the Alumi armchair evoke balustrades and handrails used on staircases and
elsewhere. The armchair is extremely light, comfortable and also stackable. The Alumi
table has distinctive features — smooth tabletop edges and angled legs— that lend it a
modern, urban look. An ensemble consisting of this lightweight and compact-sized

Tectona parasols, fabricated in the traditional manner, are legendary. Waterproofed cotton
canvas, handsewn, and carefully handfinished ribs and pine masts. A wrought iron support and
a vent in the canopy ensure great resistance to wind. Our parasols are built in the workshops of
an Italian family whose expertise and workmanship span four generations. Hardwood hubs ensure
the solidity of the structure. Varnished by hand with water-soluble varnish. The struts are also
handcrafted and reinforced at both ends.

With the Colibri cantilever parasol you can shade a large area without being inconvenienced by a
central mast. Its canopy, especially light owing to its aluminium ribs, opens and closes easily thanks

Teak is a dense wood secreting an oil
that makes it naturally rot-proof. If left
untreated, its surface will gradually
develop an attractive grey patina.
Teak is well suited to outdoor use.
Knots, which may be present in sanded
and silvered teak, confer a rustic look.
We use teak or balau, treated specifically
to ensure paint adhesion outdoors. Fine
cracks may appear : these have no effect
on resistance but necessitate occasional
touch-ups.
To conserve the original colour
of your furniture
After cleaning your furniture with soapy
water and a brush, you may apply a coat
of Wood Sealant* to slow down the greying
process. This product is also effective
against stains (tabletops).

To clean or repaint your furniture
Painted wood can be cleaned with soapy
water. If repainting, use a microporous
oil-based paint for exterior wood.

Your furniture has become grey and you
want to restore its original appearance
Furniture that has never been cared for
can be cleaned with Net Trol** to remove
all impurities, stains, mould and previous
treatments. After cleaning your furniture,
you can apply the wood sealant.
For a silver grey patina
No treatment is required. Over time, the
wood will naturally take on a silver-grey
hue. However, annual cleaning with
soapy water is recommended.
You accidentally stained your furniture
Non-greasy stains can be removed by
washing away with water. Greasy stains
require the use of a textile cleaning
product.

It keeps its colour and is fully recyclable.
Its longevity depends on light intensity
and temperature variations. We use it,

They are easy to clean, and keep

You accidentally stained the fabric
Non-greasy stains treat by wetting;
swab the outside while drying the
underside with a clean cloth. Never use
detergent or household stain remover.
Greasy stains swab before applying stain
remover.
To avoid leaving marks, always swab from
the outside to the centre of the stain. Read
the product instructions carefully or ask a
dry cleaner for advice.
The covers can be washed at 30°C;
never spin or machine dry.
Parasols with a varnished pine mast
have a waterproofed cotton canvas.
This canvas should be dusted off
and cleaned uniformly with a hose.
Detergents should be avoided,
as they would remove the waterrepellent property.
To store your parasol
roll it up and store in a dry place inside
its storage sack or an old sheet ; never
under any circumstances store it
in plastic.

Some straightforward tips
Annual cleaning
It is highly recommended that you clean your furniture
once a year. Use water with a bit of washing-up liquid
or soap to remove all impurities.
Precautions of use
- Handle the extendable tables with another person
so that movements are "symmetric"
- Do not sit on steamer footrests.
- Close parasols after use, and never store them under
a plastic canvas.
Protective covers
For our outdoor lounges and sun loungers with mattresses,
we recommend use of protective covers for total weather
protection. They are made of white waterproof canvas
and are easy to clean.
