In Loving Memory of Marjory Evenson June 5, 1928 - September 9, 2016 Marjory June Hillestad was born on June 5, 1928 at home, on the family farm in Ellisville Township, Southwest of Alamo, ND, to Marie (Hagge) and Oscar Hillestad, the fifth of nine children. Just a few roads from her home, she attended the Ellisville School #1 for 8 years, never missing a day. She was alone in her class for a time, so she was the teacher’s helper. She graduated from Alamo High School, class of 12, on May 30, 1946. During the summer of 1946, she attended Minot State Teacher College, receiving a teachers certificate, and taught school at Appam, ND for one year with only 4 students. She started working at the Post Office and store in Alamo for Oliver Sogard until 1948. Marjory attended the Hauge Church where she was baptized, attended Sunday School, was confirmed and took part in Bible Study. On December 12, 1948 she married Olaf Evenson of Alamo, at the Hauge Church. He had returned after serving during World War II. They moved to Wahpeton in December of 1949 where Olaf attended a course in Auto Mechanics. He farmed his dad’s land so he returned in the spring and later moved to the farm. He was an adopted son of Ben and Julia Tranberg, who were farming in the Alamo area. Olaf started farming in 1950, on his own. They moved to the Tranberg farm. Olaf farmed his parents land until their deaths, acquired it and farmed it for many years until his son Timothy started farming with him. Marjory was active in the church, belonged to the ALCW where she held almost every office. She served on the Hauge Church Council, served as Secretary for many years and helped organize the Hauge Cemetery Association in 1985. She taught Sunday School and held offices for many years. When Hauge Church closed, they joined the Calvary Church in Alamo in 1986. Their children, Joel was born in 1950, Valerie in 1952, Timothy in 1954 and Mark in 1958. It was a very busy household with chores, school, taking care of her family and the children’s activities. Their children attended the Ellisville School and Alamo Public School where she belonged to the band mothers and Alamo Community Club, VFW, Homemakers and Ladies Auxillary of Zahl. Marjory loved the Lord, read her Bible every day, attended church when she felt good, thought a lot and enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren very much.
