Fall 2015 - Sexual Assault Support Services of Midcoast Maine
Volume XX, Number 2 Fall 2015
A Letter from the Board Chair
Dear Friends of SASSMM,
The services SASSMM provides to
the community are vast and diverse and are
designed to support survivors of sexual
violence and their loved ones. The services
also include prevention and awareness
programs throughout Eastern Cumberland,
Sagadahoc, Lincoln, Knox & Waldo
counties.
Our services for the survivor
encompass a broad spectrum from our 24
hour hotline, in-person support meetings,
accompanying to or meeting a survivor at a
hospital for immediate care and attending
law enforcement/court proceedings. The
communities served by SASSMM are
provided with critical prevention services
regarding education and awareness training
for children, adults and seniors. Prevention
is about changing our social and cultural
norms in order to create a healthier,
supportive and safer world for all of us. The
mission is to lessen the impact of sexual
violence for survivors and provide them
with hope.
The services provided by SASSMM
to survivors, their loved ones and the
community at large are essential and
critically needed. Here is a break out of the
services that have been provided by
SASSMM in the last year:
Contacts: 682
Clients: 184
Significant others: 82 (family, friends, etc.)
Total assaults reported to us: 181
Assaults at age 17 or younger: 95
Assaults in the fiscal year: 72
Filed reports with Law Enforcement: 54
Received medical care: 56
In-school educational program: 9,930
students reached
Community & professional education: 1,138
Web page contact visits: 13,853
Your support of SASSMM and our
mission means the world to those we serve.
It generously demonstrates compassion for
those effected by sexual violence, a
commitment to sexual violence prevention
and it diminishes the stigma survivors
experience.
In closing thank you for your continued
support of our work.

SASSMM’s Twelfth Annual Gala and Silent Auction was a Success!
The SASSMM Gala and Silent Auction
happened on March 14th, 2015 at Bowdoin
College’s Thorne Dining Hall.
The dust has now settled and it is fair to say
that the Twelfth Annual Gala was a success!
After all expenses, the Gala netted $11,600!
This huge undertaking would not have been
possible without our generous corporate
sponsors, Day’s Jewelers of Brunswick, our
auction donors, and the work of so many
dedicated volunteers, who contributed
towards a great evening.
We were joined by over 145 guests, and
whether it was their first SASSMM event, or
they have been a Gala supporter for all 12
years, a fun time was had by all!
This year we had over 120 items in our auction,
great food, music, dancing, and entertainment.
The Gala is a fun and important part of
SASSMM’s yearly fundraising efforts.
Exciting Live Auction Items this
year included;
*Whitewater Rafting Group Trip*
*Red Sox autographed baseball*
*Sam Adams Utopias Beer*
*Portland Pirates autographed jersey*
*Event Photobooth Rental*
*A Dessert A Month Package from
Wild Oats*
To all who attended, donated, or were
involved in any way, THANK YOU! We hope
you recognize that you made a difference for
survivors and others impacted by sexual
violence. The funds will go directly towards
maintaining services for our Midcoast
communities. We are deeply appreciative of
every contribution to the success of the event.
