are resistant to the borer.

European hornbeam is at the Queen’s
Garden at Het Loo in the Netherlands.
There is a pleached arbor of European
hornbeam trained over a tunneled

narrow when young, becoming oval with age. It does not maintain a

American hornbeam is a good
specimen tree and is a wonderful

The trunk and branches of this
tree have ridges that look like
muscles.
Native along stream beds in North
America from Canada to Florida,
west to Texas.
It is not as commercially available
as European hornbeam.
