Percussive Arts Society Marching Percussion Festival PASIC November 9–12, 2016 Indiana Convention Center, 100 S. Capitol Ave. Indianapolis, Indiana 46225 Greetings, We appreciate you taking time to consider participating in the 2016 PASIC marching percussion festival. We are back in Indianapolis for this year’s convention. We hope you will avail yourself of the many great opportunities our convention offers. Thursday of PASIC will feature the Individuals and Small Ensemble Competition. Please read the instrumentation section carefully as any competitor in the multiple-percussion category must include a traditional marching percussion battery instrument as a part of his/her set-up. Also, please note that at PASIC 2016 there will no longer be a small ensemble percussion category as a part of the Marching Percussion Festival. The new categories will be: snare ensemble, multi-tenors ensemble, bass drums ensemble, and cymbals ensemble. And beginning with PASIC 2016 the only ties that will broken are for first place in the Individuals or Small Ensemble Competition categories. There is not a drumline competition while the convention takes place in Indianapolis. In its place, on Friday of PASIC, there will be the Interactive Clinic Format; an educational opportunity for your marching percussion ensembles to perform and receive feedback. Returning to Friday of PASIC will be the DrumLine Battle. For PASIC 2016, there will be two brackets: high school and college. Our judges will determine a winner for each bracket and then the two winners, each receiving a trophy, will compete for the 2016 PASIC DrumLine Battle Grand Championship Trophy. The DrumLine Battle is also open to independent groups, drum corps, and other ensembles. Those groups will be properly placed in either the high school or college bracket. Please note that there are a limited number of openings for each marching festival event. Please register early and secure your place. Also taking place on Friday will be exhibitions from some of the more notable college marching percussion ensembles. It will be an exciting and rewarding marching percussion festival for all. In other news, 2016 will be the second year of our marching percussion composition contest. Please keep an eye on the PAS website, publications, and emails for more specific information. Volunteering is a wonderful way to receive entrance to the PASIC activities and also be a part of the marching percussion festival. Sincerely, Mark Reilly Chair, PAS Marching Percussion Committee Friday, November 11, 2016 DrumLine Battle Deposit Fee Register by October 1, 2016 Limited Spots Available The 2016 PASIC Drumline Battle will be divided into high school and college brackets. The judges will select a champion from both of those brackets and then the winners will battle it out for the 2016 PASIC DrumLine Battle Grand Championship. In addition to having champions from the two brackets and a Grand Champion, the 2016 event will feature fan involvement and allow fans to select a fan favorite from the finalists. Independent groups, drum corps ensembles, or other types of ensembles are welcomed and will be properly placed in either the high school or college bracket. How to participate: Simply prepare a 1.5–2.0 minute marching percussion drum solo (battery only). Add some visuals, stunts and stick tricks and you're good to go! It's that easy and it's a lot of fun. You can use material from your winter line, fall show or something produced just for this event. • Battles are staged head-to-head against other drumlines in a bracketed tournament format. • Each team will perform a 1.5 to 2.0 minute solo facing the other team in their own 12 meter x 12 meter battle zone, separated by a 2 meter wide neutral zone. Each group gets an initial 90 second to 2 minute performance, then they will do a second performance (the rebuttal), so it will go Group A - Group B - Group A (rebuttal) Group B (rebuttal). • Use of any electronics is not allowed. Any group using electronics will be disqualified from the DrumLine Battle. • The judges will select a winner as soon as a round is over and continue doing so throughout the DrumLine Battle. Judges will consider but not limit their decisions based on: drumming skills, movement (drill and choreography), visuals, stick tricks, and overall showmanship. Registered ensembles already participating in the Marching Festival Interactive Clinic may compete in the DrumLine Battle for no additional fee. Simply fill out the DLB Registration form and submit to be included.
