Can you find them? (Words may be written forward, backward, vertically, horizontally, or diagonally. Solution on page 10.) 4 Daddy Warbucks? Is that you? Of the six Daddy Warbucks shown below, only two of them are exactly alike. Can you spot them? (Solution on page 10.) 5 Morphin’ Orphans Some people think that children without parents find it very difficult to make their way in life, but there are many orphans who have gone on to do very special things. Below we’ve scrambled the names of some famous orphans (from literature and real life) and given you a clue as to who they are. Can you unscramble the names and write them in the spaces? (Answer on page 10.) 1. EVEST BOSJ _____ ____ With his partner, he started a computer company in 1976 that uses a piece of fruit as its logo. He also runs the company that made a recent movie about a group of toys trying to find a home when their owner Andy goes away to college. 2. DEHII _____ She goes to live with her grandfather in the Alps in Switzerland, and makes friends with Peter the goatherder, whom she eventually teaches to read and write. She also make friends with Clara who ultimately leaves her wheelchair. 3. LELA GERTFIZALD ____ __________ Born in 1917, she was a famous singer (often called the “First Lady of Song”) and found great success with music called Big Band Swing. She performed with Duke Ellington and Louis Armstrong and became famous for singing “A Tisket, A Tasket.” 4. RYHAR PETORT _____ ______ He lost his parents on his first birthday, but would go on to become one of the world’s wizest and most powerful wizards. He attended a school called Hogwarts where he made many friends; especially Hermione and Ron. 6 5. SONNEL LANMADE ______ _______ After spending 27 years in prison for his part in the anti-apartheid movement, he went on to become the president of South Africa from 1994 to 1999. In 1993 he won the Nobel Peace Prize. 6. HIFAT LLIH _____ ____ She is a popular country singer and is married to Tim McGraw. Adopted as an infant, she made her first public appearance at a 4-H luncheon at age seven. Her first album sold 3 million copies. 7. LORAC BETTRUN _____ _______ Left with her grandmother at an early age, she would go on to find success as a comedienne, singer, dancer, and writer. In 1967 she started her own television show that ran for 11 years. She also starred in the 1982 film version of Annie as Agatha Hannigan. 8. REEANOL VERTLOOSE _______ _________ Both of her parents died before she was 10. She often referred to herself as “ugly,”but many people considered her a beautiful person indeed. Tutored privately until age 15, she would find fame as a very important First Lady, wife to the 32nd president of the United States (he actually appears in Annie). 7 Lost & Found Annie and Sandy came together because they needed each other. Can you help them find each other in the middle of the city? (Solution on page 10.) 8 Things we can learn from Annie • Annie’s life is certainly no picnic. She has no family (except for her friends) and does not have nice clothes to wear, yet she remains positive. Do you remember a time when things weren’t going so well in your life? What did you tell yourself in order to keep going? • If you were forced to live without video games, cell phones, television, or toys of any kind, what would you do to entertain yourself? Take a test for a day or so and see how long you can go without. Maybe you can make a contest of it with friends. • Annie is set during the Great Depression when millions of people lost their jobs and possessions. Do you know of someone who is out of work? If so, can you think of ways you can help that person? • At the end of the show, Annie is forced to give up any chance of ever finding her parents. Is there a dream that you’ve had to give up? Did you replace it with another dream? 9 Solutions Morphin’ Orphans (from page 6) 1) Steve Jobs 2) Heidi 3) Ella Fitzgerald 4) Harry Potter 5) Nelson Mandela 6) Faith Hill 7) Carol Burnett 8) Eleanor Roosevelt 10 Administrative Staff Producing Artistic Director . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .Wayne Bryan – [email protected] Producing Associate/Company Manager . . . . . . . .Nancy Reeves –[email protected] Finance Director . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
