Annie is an 11 year old little girl living in an orphanage in New York City in 1933. The musical takes
place in the winter.

Design Miss Hannigan’s Costume
Miss Hannigan is a woman who runs the New York Municipal Orphanage- Girls Annex in New York
City in 1933. Many women worked in the 1930s to support themselves or their families because
of the Great Depression. Most women who worked earned less money than men, even if they
were doing the same job.

Design the Citizens of Hooverville’s Costumes
ANNIE takes place in New York City in 1933 during the Great Depression. The Great Depression
was a period in time when many people did not have jobs or money, and some lost their homes.
People without homes created towns out of tents and shacks called “Hoovervilles” where they
could live together.

Design Fifth Avenue Annie’s Costume
Annie is an 11 year old little girl living in Mr. Warbucks’s Fifth Avenue Mansion in New York City in
1933. The musical takes place in the winter.

Grace Farrell takes Annie to shop at the Bergdorf Goodman department store. Does Annie
have fancier clothing when she lives in the mansion?

While living with Mr. Warbucks, Annie goes to the movies, the Automat, and the White

Mr. Warbucks is a business man who lives in an enormous mansion on Fifth Avenue in New York
in 1933. He has his very own chauffeur, butler, maids, housekeeper, cook, and secretary. He is an
important man who even knows the president!
