Fall is a great time to join the Monroe Family YMCA.
We have a variety of activities for you and your
family to enjoy! We work hard to provide not only a
safe and welcoming environment, but also to be the
best resource we can be to our community. We are
here for you and will work with you to reach goals in
mind, body, and spirit. A victory for you is a victory
for us.
Here at the Y, we are all about family. That’s why we
offer activities and programing for all ages. From
infants in our Child Watch /Adventure Zone to our
seniors in our SilverSneakers® programs.
Be sure to check out our before and after the bell
childcare options for your kids. Our licensed child
care will give you the peace of mind knowing that
your child is getting cared for before and after
school.

INFORMATION
NOW IT’S EASIER THAN EVER TO JOIN THE Y!
Membership at the Y is a special thing. Be a part of a leading nonprofit organization for youth development, healthy living and social
responsibility. The YMCA of Snohomish County is a membership organization and anyone can join. Best of all, now there are no joining fees! So,

FACILITY MEMBERSHIP RATES
FACILITY MEMBERSHIP
Get full access to fitness centers at all five YMCAs in Snohomish County
with a Facility Membership. Choose from a wide menu of free group
exercise classes, enjoy lap and recreational swimming, and receive a
free wellness orientation when you join. As a facility member, you’ll be
eligible for priority registration and reduced fees on specialty classes
and programs for your whole family.

PROGRAM MEMBERSHIP
If you’re not already a Y Facility Member and want to participate in
programs like summer camps, youth sports, swimming lessons and child
care, you’ll need an annual Program Membership. You’ll receive the
same great level of quality and caring for which the Y is known, but
without access to wellness centers and other amenities offered through
a full Facility Membership.
COMMUNITY MEMBERSHIP
Belonging is a philosophy at the heart of the Y. Everyone in the
community is considered a free Community Member and is welcome to
participate in key community events and programs such as fun runs,
health fairs, and community education.
TRIANGLE MEMBERSHIP
If your fast-paced life takes you all over the Puget Sound area, try a
Triangle Membership. For only a few dollars more per month, you’ll get
access to all Ys in Snohomish County, Greater Seattle, the South Sound
and Pierce and Kitsap Counties.
CORPORATE MEMBERSHIP
As part of the YMCA’s corporate membership plan, employees will enjoy
the benefits of belonging to Snohomish County’s largest and most
respected health, wellness, and human service organization. For more
information about corporate membership, please contact the Member
Services Director.

INFORMATION
OUR MISSION
To inspire, nurture, and strengthen culturally
vibrant communities through youth development,
healthy living, and social responsibility.
MEMBERSHIP CARD
Your membership card is valuable and important. A valid membership
card or photo ID is required every time you enter the Y. If you lose your
card, you can get a replacement for a small fee. You can also create a
digital card to scan at the branch with our mobile app.
GUESTS
Your membership includes 12 complimentary guest passes per year,
stored electronically on your membership account, each pass is good
for one redemption at any branch of the YMCA of Snohomish County,
and admits one person or one family to join you at the Y. At busy times,
the Y reserves the right to limit guest usage.
All guests must present photo identification and adhere to facility
guidelines. A guest may use Y facilities up to three times in one
calendar year with a member. Thereafter, a day pass or membership
must be purchased.
FINANCIAL AID
Unable to afford the full cost of YMCA memberships and programs?
Apply confidentially for financial assistance, forms are located in the
lobby and are also available on our website. Member Services staff are
available assist you with your request.
MEMBER GET A MEMBER
It’s a win-win at the Y! When you refer a friend, and they sign up for a
Y membership, you’ll receive one month free membership for yourself.
Gain a workout buddy and money in your pocket. Pick up a
Member-Get-A-Member guest pass at Member Services.
AWAY PROGRAM
The AWAY (Always Welcome at YMCAs) program allows you to access
Y’s around the country when visiting from out-of-town. Just show your
valid Y membership card. This program is good for 12 visits per
calendar year. Y’s in the Puget Sound Triangle Membership area are not
considered part of the AWAY program for Triangle Members.
PROGRAM REFUND GUIDELINES
The following guidelines are for programs that do not have required
deposits (which are non-refundable). Special restrictions apply to Camp,
Child Care, Membership and other programs that are clearly stated in
their brochures and registrations. Program Directors have the final say
to make any allowances other than the following:

Cancelling a program 1 week prior to first day of the program
start date=100% full refund less a minimum of a $5 service fee
may apply

Cancelling a program after the program start date = refunds will be
prorated less a minimum of a $5 service fee may apply

Cancelling a program half-way or more after the program start
date = no refund.
PAYMENT OPTIONS
Bank draft and credit card payments are a convenient way to
pay membership fees and ensure your membership is current.
New membership activation requires a one-month payment of
membership dues and pro-rated monthly fees at time of
enrollment as well as banking account information or a credit
card. If your banking or credit card information changes, please
let us know at least 15 days before your draft, or you may be
charged a $30 NSF fee for nonpayment.
Annual payments are perfect for members who want to pay for
their membership one year at a time. This option requires
payment of 12 months at time of enrollment.
LEAVE OF ABSENCE:
Members may have their membership held in abeyance once per
calendar year upon 15 days advance written notice if
membership dues are current. A minimum abeyance of 60 days
and a maximum abeyance of 120 days is permitted. Membership
will be automatically activated after a term of abeyance expires.

GENERAL INFORMATION
TALK TOURS
This is your Y. Please make your concerns and comments known!
Member suggestion cards are available throughout the facility and at
Member Services. We pledge to acknowledge each comment and
respond appropriately.
LOCKERS
Lockers are available for day use by members and guests. You must
bring your own lock and remove it at the end of each visit. Items left
overnight will be removed from the locker room and placed in the lost
and found.
If you prefer to email or telephone your comment, please contact the
Membership Director.
Always secure your belongings. We recommend that you not bring
valuables into the facility; the Y is not responsible for lost or stolen
items. Security lockers for small items are available at no cost.
GET STARTED
An easy first step to getting started at the Y is to contact Member
Services for a free wellness connection within your first 30 days of
membership. A trained Y professional will meet with you to discuss your
goals, answer any questions you may have, and recommend appropriate
wellness programs for you.
FACILITY GUIDELINES
• Ages 6 and under must have direct supervision at all times.
• Ages 7-11 must be accompanied by a supervising individual who
remains in the building.
• Ages 12 & 13 are not required to be accompanied by a
supervising individual but are subject to age restrictions for
specific areas.
• Ages 14 and older are considered adults only for the purpose of
use of the facilities and programs.
ELECTRONIC USAGE GUIDELINES
Due to the advances in mobile and video technology, and for the privacy
and protection of all our members, the YMCA of Snohomish County asks
that members, participants, and guests adhere to the following
guidelines.
• Use of electronic devices is not permitted - at any time - in Y
locker rooms and youth program areas.
• As a courtesy to other members, please set phones to silent while
working out.
• Please limit phone conversations to the lobby or non-workout
areas.
• Taking photos or video without permission from the Executive
Director is not permitted on Y premises.
FOOD AND BEVERAGES
No food or drink other than water is permitted in the pool, workout and
gym areas.
PARKING
Parking is available in the lot on the corner of Everett Avenue and
Rockefeller Avenue for a maximum of two hours at no charge. Cars will
be towed from the Armory and Central Lutheran parking lot at all times.
RAQUETBALL COURT RENTALS
Courts may be reserved up to a day in advance by calling Member
Services or in person. Reservations are encouraged to guarantee your
desired time. There is a one hour reservation limit per person during
peak usage times. Racquets, balls, and eye protection can be checked
out with your membership card.
ATTIRE
As a family organization, the YMCA of Snohomish County encourages
members and their guests to maintain an appearance that is not
disruptive, distracting, nor offensive in any regard and to wear attire
that does not present health or safety concerns. Accordingly, Y staff
may restrict appearance and attire with special consideration for those
specific issues.
These guidelines are meant for example purposes and may not be
inclusive of all expectations.
Not permitted
 Clothing and jewelry that carry sexual, vulgar, or offensive
messages or references, including pictures of the use of alcohol,
tobacco, drugs, and gang affiliation.

Any apparel item that can be used as a weapon.

Jeans and non-workout attire are not permitted in workout areas.
Required in workout areas
 Closed-toe athletic shoes.

Shirts or workout tops.

Eye guards are required in racquetball courts.

Proper swim attire is required in the pool and spa areas.
SMOKE-FREE ENVIRONMENT
In keeping with Y’s health and wellness advocacy, smoking is not
permitted on Y’s facility or grounds. All YMCA’s of Snohomish County
properties are smoke-free environments.

DEVELOPMENT
At the Y, we believe every child has potential, and
we’re here to nurture that potential. From youth
sports to academic support and leadership
development, the Y helps bring out the best in kids.
CHILD CARE & EDUCATION
SCHOOL AGE CHILD CARE
You can relax knowing that with us, your kids are getting their daily
dose of fun, homework assistance, character development, cultural
enrichment, and fitness right at your child’s elementary school, and at a
price every family can afford.
Washington State Licensed child care programs offer high-quality fun
and exciting clubs at our After School Programs! Games, fitness,
cooking, art, Lego’s and more! Come join the fun!
Care options available Monday –Friday 6 am-6:30pm when school is
not in session
KIDS NIGHT OUT
Kids leave your parents at home and spend an evening at the Y! Kids
age 6 weeks to 12 years will enjoy a variety of games, crafts, play
time and activities. Every third Saturday of the month:

SPARK CENTER
Discover play and thrive in the youth Sparks Center! Youth will learn
new skills, make new friends and find new interests. Free to all
members.
DSHS subsidy accepted.
Kids will enjoy free time and Group activity time from 4-7 pm.
This is a time to explore a variety of activities such as sports and art.
Sites include: Fryelands, Chain Lake and Maltby. Also serving Frank
Wagner, Dutch Hill and Salem Woods.

CHILD WATCH/ADVENTURE ZONE
Our YMCA Adventure Zone and Child Watch staff will keep
your children active and safe while you enjoy your workout.
This service is included in your family membership and is a
member’s only privilege. The Y allows your children to play for 2
hours per child in the morning and evening. Adventure Zone is for
children ages 3 to 11 years; Child Watch is for children ages 6 weeks to
6 years. Parents remain inside the facility while your children are in our
care. Please be sure to have your YMCA ID with you.

TEEN PROGRAMS
TEEN PROGRAMS
YOUTH DEVELOPMENT CENTER
The Youth Development Center is a safe, fun environment for teens to
hang out. Activities include internet-ready computers, pool table,
foosball, video games, board games, arts & crafts, and more. Free to
everyone, no membership required. The Youth Development Center
follows the Monroe School District calendar. Free and open to all.
Ages 10-18
Monday-Thursday, 3-7 pm
Friday, 2-6 pm
TEEN BUS RUN
The Teen Bus Run picks up students at Park Place Middle School,
Hidden River Middle School (at the Fryelands Elementary bus drop-off
site), and Monroe High School and brings them to the Y after school.

Monday-Friday (half days and early release days included)
$20 Facility Member/$25 Program Member
Additional Information: Teens who qualify for free/reduced lunch
ride for free. Students must register/pay for at least one day prior to
riding the bus.
YOUTH AND GOVERNMENT (YAG)
Students learn how our state government works in this hands-on civic
engagement program. Students meet weekly October through April
and attend a 4 day conference in the State Capitol Building in Olympia
at the end of the program.

GIRLS OF PROMISE
Girls only! This free program is designed to create a supportive and
fun group of girls while teaching leadership and self confidence.
Participants must be referred by a counselor or teacher. Program runs
during the school year. However, if you feel that your daughter would

SUPER SITTERS
MIDDLE SCHOOL MADNESS
Middle Schoolers, come and hang out at the Y after hours...this time is

Free to Facility Members/$3 for everyone else to cover dinner costs.

EDUCATION & LEADERSHIP
MINORITY ACHEIVERS PROGAM (MAP)
Minority Achievers Program is a free after school program open to all
students. It aims to motivate and support students to achieve
education and career goals through educational success, career
exploration, community relations, parent support and involvement,
scholarship opportunities and youth/adult mentors. Follows the
Monroe Public Schools Calendar.

Sultan Middle School
Super Sitters is a program designed to train young people in basic
babysitting skills, safety and infant/childcare. Those completing the
course will be better prepared to provide a safe, more effective and
positive babysitting experience. The Super Sitters Course is taught by
experienced, hospital-qualified instructors and includes parent
expectations, basic first aid, child development, personal safety,
Heimlich Maneuver, nutrition, home security, fire prevention, telephone
tips, toys and activities, and infant care.

Class is taught in the YDC. Participants should bring a sack lunch.
YOUTH MEMBERSHIP
The Y is for everyone. Youth Memberships are available to teens who
are eligible for free or reduced-price lunches at school.
Turn in your Youth Membership application with:
• School District letter of eligibility for the free/reduced lunch
program, or from a school counselor confirming eligibility.
• Payment of $17 or $34 (for entire year), based on free or reduced
status
Ages 10 and older
Additional Information: These Youth Memberships expire
August 31. Please reapply each school year.

SWIM, SPORTS & PLAY: YOUTH SPORTS
TODDLER SPORTS
Children will be introduced to the basic skills of our three major sports
including: T-Ball, Soccer and Basketball. Children will enhance their
coordination and get moving in this fun “Parent and Me” class. Games
and equipment are modified to be developmentally appropriate for this
age group and to maximize fun and success.

LITTLE ROOKIE & ROOKIE OUTDOOR SOCCER
Children learn the fundamentals of soccer, building skills in a noncompetitive environment. This program focuses on skill building
and sportsmanship by providing a positive, family-oriented and
fun experience. Volunteer coaches needed.
MARTIAL ARTS
Learn confidence, safety awareness, self-defense, discipline and
respect, all while having fun! Supervised physical contact is allowed
only between qualified ranking students. Each session ends with an
“Optional” belt testing and parent demonstration. A white Martial Arts
uniform is suggested, but not required.

Youth soccer leagues are designed to help children learn the basic
skills of soccer and sportsmanship. Children learn at their own
pace and develop confidence. Our leagues are also designed to
help children refine their skills and further develop sportsmanship
and learn to be a team player. Volunteer coaches needed.

The Monroe/Sky Valley Family YMCA offers a wide variety of
dance classes, including: Ballet, Acro, Jazz and Lyrical. All

SKIP BASKETBALL
SKIP (Super Kids in Play) is basketball designed for those with
special needs. It is open to individuals ages 5+ and up with any
type/degree of physical or mental impairment. Buddies will be
provided if needed.

ADAPTIVE SWIM CLASSES
During the adaptive swim classes, the parent is in the pool with the
child if needed. They are joined by a swim instructor and an
occupational therapist that rotates throughout the class.
The class is limited in size to ensure quality, focused time with each
child.

SPECIAL NEEDS AQUATIC PLAYTIME (SNAP)
SNAP is a group class built to fit the needs of your
swimmer: a great option for kids with Asperger’s, Autism,
sensory integration issues, hearing or visual impairments, or
other needs. Instructors modify course work and skills to fit
needs regarding space, sound, visual aids, and touch. Parents
should come prepared to swim with their child on the first day
of attendance, and as needed thereafter.

SWIM TEAM
The Monroe/Sky Valley Family YMCA Swim Team offers youth the
opportunity to learn about swimming as a sport while having fun and
encouraging sportsmanship. Coaching includes the YMCA values of
caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility while working on
endurance training and stroke techniques.
 Must be able to swim, without difficulty, 50 yards (2 lengths of the
pool) freestyle, backstroke, and breaststroke and 25 yards of
Butterfly.
 Have completed a session of the Fish level or higher.
 All swimmers must tryout with a swim coach before they can join.
Achieving and maintaining wellness is a task that’s
never finished. That’s why a healthy lifestyle is so
important. We’re here to help you regardless of your
starting point with a variety of classes and support to
keep you healthy in spirit, mind and body!

FAMILY SWIM
During Family Swim the pool is reserved just for families. Children and
parents must be in the pool together. We ask that all children under the
age of 12 follow Wristband and Testing policy.

Swim meets are Saturdays and/or Sundays about once a month

LIVESTRONG® AT THE YMCA
Cancer survivors continue your journey of recovery at the Y. Studies
show that exercise improves long-term survival and quality of life by
reducing fatigue, enhancing self-esteem, improving fitness, and
reducing stress. Must have a doctor’s approval to participate. This
program was developed in partnership with the Lance Armstrong
Foundation and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.

ACT! (ACTIVELY CHANGING TOGETHER)
ACT! is a nutrition, activity, and self-improvement program for youth
ages 8-11 and teens ages 12-14 and their parents. This is a
community-based program for youth who are overweight or at risk of
becoming overweight. A YMCA Health & Well-Being Team teaches fun
ways to be active, eat right, and create healthy lifestyles for the whole
family. To be involved in ACT!, one adult family member or guardian
must participate.

My Y Story: Alex
Alex had been morbidly obese for more
than 20 years and wore a size 3X. She
had tried many weight loss programs,
but nothing worked.
Knowing she was at risk for diabetes,
Alex joined the YMCA’s Diabetes
Prevention Program. The program gave
her the necessary tools and support to
maintain a healthy lifestyle. Since it
was a gradual change, she never felt
overwhelmed or deprived. She felt safe
with a supportive community where
there was no judgment or pressure.
They worked as a class to brainstorm
solutions for obstacles and setbacks.
A changed person, Alex has lost 85
pounds and her confidence has grown.
She has since become a Zumba
instructor and a belly dancer.
YMCA’S DIABETES PREVENTION PROGRAM
The YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program helps you take control of
your health by adopting habits to reduce your chances of developing
type 2 diabetes and improve your overall health and well-being.
The program provides a supportive environment where participants
work together in a small group to learn about healthier eating and
increasing their physical activity in order to reduce their risk for
developing diabetes. The program is led by a trained Lifestyle Coach in
a classroom setting, is delivered over a 12-month period, beginning
with 16 weekly sessions followed by monthly maintenance.
In order to qualify for the YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program,
participants must be at least 18 years old, overweight (BMI of 25 or
greater) and at high risk for developing type 2 diabetes or have been
diagnosed with prediabetes.

If you’re not sure where to start with
your workouts or you want to fine
tune your fitness, Heart Zones is the
way to go. Work with certified Heart
Zones trainers Sarah, Ken or Ginger to
establish your individual workout heart zone
with threshold testing. After establishing
your heart zone thresholds, you will have a
guide to know how hard to work and the
benefits. Heart Zones is now the world leader
in heart-rate training branded and patented

BODY ROLLING
Body Rolling will explore the use of foam rollers to achieve many of
the same benefits as a sports massage, but without the big price tag!
Using a cylindrical foam roller, Body Rolling will stretch your muscles
and tendons with your own body weight through myofascial release
techniques. You will learn self-massage that will break up trigger
points and sooth tight muscles.

HAPPY BACK/SPINE WORKSHOP
A healthy and happy spine allows our nervous system to be stronger and
more efficient. Come learn the anatomy of the spine, the 5 movements of
the spinal column, and how to move to support healthy and wellness for
this system! The way we move our spine throughout our daily activities
can be the culprit causing discomfort or pain. We will use yoga, strength
training, and body rolling to unwind tension and learn to support proper
alignment and movement, building a foundation for a happy back for a
long life… Growing younger through informed movement!

IT BAND HEALTH
In this workshop we will address the overall health of the IT band by
using a variety of fitness styles, such as strength training, yoga, body

basic body imbalances related to the IT Band. A great class for
anyone!
FOOT PATROL
Ages 13 +
Foot patrol is a developmentally appropriate running program
that combines games, drills, and distance running to make
running fun. The program is designed for the outdoors so
children should be dressed appropriately and bring a labeled
water bottle. Foot Patrol will focus on nutrition, hydration,
breath control , posture, Y core values and sportsmanship. Our
goal is to work up to a 1.6 or 5K.

Wherever you are on your well-being journey, we
have a class for you! Classes focus on strength,
toning, or cardiovascular fitness. Classes are included in membership.
AOA (Active Older Adult): A lighter water fitness class designed
especially for the young at heart.
Aqua ZUMBA®: This class puts ZUMBA® in the water for a safe
and challenging water workout.
Arthritis & Injury: A water fitness workout designed especially
for the young at heart.
Barre: An energetic, fun workout that fuses fitness techniques
from dance, Pilates, and yoga that will tone, define and chisel the
whole body. Performed at the ballet barre to rockin' music, it’s the
perfect combination of strength and flexibility with added cardio
to burn fat fast.
Barre/Core Strength: Get toned quickly with a workout aimed to
hit every muscle in your body. Barre/Core Strength incorporates
the use of the Bosu, balls, bands and weights to tone and
strengthen muscles plus leg and core at the barre. Add a dash of
cardio and you're set to get in shape for life. This class relies on a
core emphasis to strengthen the body from the inside-out!
Chair Yoga: This beginner yoga class is designed for those of all
ages that may have balance issues. It incorporates gentle, flowing
movement while sitting on a chair or balancing with the support of
a chair.
Circuit Training: Provides a total body workout that includes
resistance and cardiovascular training by using a variety of exercise methods and equipment. The Monday and Wednesday 5 pm
class includes cycle and TRX.
Core Strength: Looking to work those abs? This 30 minute class
is designed to help you increase core strength by working the
muscles in your abdominals, back, and torso. This workout will
help improve posture, coordination, stability and overall strength.
Cycle 101: This beginning cycle class introduces you to the basics of spinning while boosting your metabolism and giving you a
great cardio workout.
MASTER SWIM CLASS
An organized workout designed to improve endurance, speed, and
form in any level of swimmer.

SilverSneakers®: Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of
movement and activities for daily living. Hand-held weights, elastic
tubing with handles, a SilverSneaker® ball are offered for resistance, and a chair is used for seated and/or standing support. Open to all ages and a great class for those recovering from
injuries.
SilverSplash®: SilverSplash® offers LOTS of fun and shallow water moves to improve agility, flexibility, and cardiovascular endurance. A special kickboard is used to develop strength, balance and
coordination. No swimming ability is required.
Strength 101: Get your body moving with this fun class! Strength
101 includes warm-up, cardio, strength training, core work, and
stretching. A great class for all ages.
Strength & Conditioning: This class incorporates the use of
weights, fit balls and the Bosu to tone muscles and build strength.
May include TRX.
Super Step: A high-energy class for intermediate exercisers. A
great cardio workout utilizing the step and incorporates the use of
weights, bands, and/or fit balls. Plus a dose of core work and
stretching for a well-rounded workout.
Yoga: Challenge your strength with this flowing style of yoga. Work on strength, flexibility and much more.
Yoga Flow: Yoga incorporating rhythmic movements with breathing techniques.
Yoqua: Specialty Yoga for the pool.
ZUMBA!®: A Latin dance based aerobic workout. The latest trend
in group exercise!
ZUMBA Toning®: Take the original ZUMBA® dance-fitness class
to the next level, using light-weight dumbbells as well as Latin
rhythms to work your muscles, move your body and have fun!
Group Cycle: This indoor, stationary ride is a challenging, upbeat
and motivating workout guaranteed to make you sweat!
H2O Fitness: This water class is designed for all fitness levels
and includes cardio, toning and stretching.
Hatha Yoga: A gentle alignment based style of yoga for those at
beginning and intermediate levels.

SOCIAL SERVICES
ENGLISH FOR SPEAKERS OF OTHER LANGUAGES (ESOL)
The YMCA is partnering with the Seattle Goodwill to offer eight weeks
of English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). Goodwill’s class will
build confidence in everyday situations, improve consumer skills, and
prepare students for employment or educational programs. Free child
care (ages one year and up) is provided. Class sizes will be kept small
with no more than 16 participants to a class. Although there is no cost
to attend, there are a few requirements, including regular attendance.

CONVERSATIONAL ENGLISH
This class is designed for adults who want to gain basic conversational
English skills in a relaxing and friendly class. All skill levels are welcome.

Volunteer opportunities include coaching youth sports, helping kids
with homework, sharing your passions with kids, helping in the cardio/
weight room and special events.
Volunteers also make up our Board of Directors and branch committees
and we depend on volunteers like you to help us raise funds that ensure
the Y is accessible to all members through our Annual Campaign
