GROUPS COME FROM NEAR AND FAR
TO LEND A “HEART” TO KEVIN GUEST HOUSE
Vermont Church Group
Volunteers from First Congregational Essex Junction United
Church of Christ from Vermont
A youth group and their leaders from First Congregational Essex Junction United Church of
Christ from Vermont visited Kevin Guest House during a mission trip to Buffalo. The group spent
two days doing yard maintenance and painting in preparation for our Open House. Pictured
here is the group who include: Wendy Wark and Sally May, adult chaperones, Youth Pastor
Ryan Gackenheimer, Erica Garvey, Sean McMullen, Mandy Wark, Rachel Ahokas, Sophie
Bashaw, Corinne Jacobsen, Lanie Benton, Josh Sharp, Sarah Bannerman, Keenan Mittl, and
Lauren King. The youths, ranging from 14 to 17 years of age, also volunteered
at several other area non-profit organizations during their week-long mission in Buffalo.
Catholic Academy, Buffalo, NY
This group of students from Catholic Academy spent the afternoon at Kevin Guest House as part
of a community service project. The afternoon was coordinated by Bradley Milette who is the
nephew of Barb Moscati one of our regular gardening volunteers.

KGH was happy to host a group of Lawley Insurance Group interns for the annual United Way
“Business Meets Community” project in June. The team, under the leadership of Sherry Ford
of Lawley, were able to flex their muscles in a way that was helpful to KGH and the people we
serve. The group helped with a variety of tasks during their afternoon with us. Thank you.

DIRECTOR’SCORNER
Dear Friends,
www.kevinguesthouse.org
It is true; autumn is in the air
and on the ground as the
leaves fall and crackle
underfoot.
It truly is a
beautiful time of year and
a season I look forward to.
2
It’s also the time of year
that we see change and
growth as our children
return to school and we
get back to our daily
schedules or errands, soccer games, teacher
meetings
and
start
scheduling
our annual doctor visits, dentists and consider
joining the gym before the cold months and
holiday gatherings begin.
At Kevin Guest House as these changes occur we
are changing, too. On September 23rd we said
Good-Bye to our colleague, co-worker and
friend, Barbara Fraser our administrative assistant
as she begins a new chapter in her life as a
retiree. Barbara’s years of dedication, support and
unwavering commitment to Kevin Guest House will
be greatly missed. Barbara has been with us since
1993 as she joined Kevin Guest House as a
volunteer once a week. As Kevin Guest House
grew, more and more work was required in the
operation of our service. During this moment of
2011 Board of Directors
need Barbara was hired and became our first
administrative assistant under the leadership of
former executive director Jen Ann Burger. Barbara
spent sixteen years as a member of our team and
created many of the processes we still use today.
Her unwavering support, dedication and creativity
will be missed.
And, of course, as we all know, no-one can ever be
replaced and this is true. However, as we always
recognize a good challenge our Personnel
Committee and I worked diligently to find the right
person to fill this position. After reading, re-reading
over 70 resumes, cover letters and references the
interview process took place and in the end the
decision was made and we opened our doors to a
new team member Sandra Hammer. Sandra is
bright, energetic, computer savvy and has a
dedication to serving others that is truly the heart of
our mission.
So welcome to a new chapter at Kevin Guest
House, where change is daily yet we remain
committed and connected to those we serve and
deeply appreciate our donors (individual and
corporate) who help us in keeping our doors open
to your family, friends and neighbors.
Enjoy your autumn season, a season of change,
beauty and joyful thoughts of the future.

GOOD LUCK BARBARA ON A NEW CHAPTER OF
YOUR LIFE!
Kevin Guest House said goodbye to our Administrative Assistant, Barbara
Fraser, who retired in September.
As mentioned in the Executive Director’s corner on page two, Barbara had
been with us since 1993 when she joined Kevin Guest House as a volunteer
once a week. Eventually she was hired full time and never looked back.
Patricia Taborn from Roswell Park with Barb Fraser
Barbara will be missed as will her bountiful knowledge of the history of Kevin
Guest House.
We wish her well as she begins a new chapter in her life.
WELCOME TO KEVIN GUEST HOUSE SANDRA!
“Thank you everyone for the warm welcome to Kevin Guest House,” said
Sandra. “I am excited to make a place for myself within the organization
and I am enthusiastic for what the future may bring. I look forward to
meeting even more of the KGH community as time goes on,” she added.

We’d like to welcome, Sandra Hammer, our new Executive Assistant, who
joined the Kevin Guest House team in September. Sandra brings with her a

area non-profits. She has volunteered her time and talents for such charities
as The Jacquie Hirsch for A.L.L. Foundation, Roswell Park Cancer Institute
and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
