If you were at the lake on Sunday, you know we had a great turn-out for the slip exchange meeting followed by a Soup Cook-off. As always, Allen Johnson did a good job working through the slip
exchange and waiting lists to ensure everyone had an opportunity to consider a different slip or sublease location. If you are not on the list and would like to have an opportunity next spring, please
drop Allen an email.
The Soup cook-off was Awesome! I’ve always been a fan of Andy Woodward’s famous chili, but
there were many others to sample including pork chop soup, elk, taco soup, potato, chicken fiesta and
fish chowder just to name a few! Of course the desserts were too good to pass up. Many thanks to
those of you that participated and especially to Thumper Johnson and those that assisted in putting
this event together. I can see an annual tradition in the making!
If the soup wasn’t good enough on Sunday, Heather and I got to enjoy a wonderful sail with the
Cheatum’s and Gibsons….what a beautiful afternoon for the first sail of the year! Now if I just had
those boat projects all done!
With all my goofing around on Sunday, I have to admit, that I missed the last BOG meeting due
to an out of town emergency. The board is hard at work making preparations for the upcoming sailing
season and Andy Woodward (Past Commodore) stepped in and chaired the meeting in my absence, I
appreciate his assistance on such short notice.
You may have noticed the extensive bag wall improvements occurring along the slip cove. This is
the most visible part of the crane re-wiring project from last fall. Thanks to those members that have
assisted Patrick on this latest phase of the project, I’m always amazed how talented some of you are
with a shovel! We are still in need of members to come out and help plant the grass, so if you are
available please let Patrick know.
Finally, Commodore-Elect, Tom Olsen convened a meeting of the Work Credit chairpersons on
Sunday before the slip exchange meeting. Tom reviewed a number of areas including the Long Range
Planning Committee’s recommendations for improvements to the program, reporting, expenses and
the board’s expectations for work credit. As you all know, the Work Credit program is a wonderful
opportunity to get involved and make a difference at NSA. Many thanks to those that have stepped up
to chair a committee, your dedication is critical to the operation of our Association!
I hope to see all of you at the lake soon. The sailing season is upon us!

Board of Governors
Board of Governors—March 5, 2009—Minutes
Present: Olsen, Cheatum, Couch, Gronniger,
Knox, Stump, Johnson and Woodard
Meeting was called to order 7:00 pm.
- The minutes of the February 5, 2009 meeting
were approved as published.
Property Managers Report:
- Adams reported that the bag wall along with
dirt work and landscaping would be complete
when grass and some final dirt work is finished.
He applauded the workers and volunteers who
helped with this project. Patrick also invited
members to come and see the improved bag wall
along the shoreline between A and C dock.
Administrative Secretary Report:
- Johnson reported the small list of members
who are delinquent in their annual dues.
Commodore Report:
- Graves was absent and the meeting was
chaired by Andy Woodard per Johns request.
Commodore-Elect Report:
- Olsen reported that work committee chairperson assignments are in place and a meeting was
scheduled to take place prior to the slip exchange
event.
Past Commodore Report:
- Woodward announced that the fundraiser for
purchasing furniture for the Afterdeck will be
tabled for future consideration.
Vice Commodore Report:
- Cheatum announced that the plan to replace
the committee boat is still in the works. He asked
the BOG for their support in making a sound decision concerning this matter. After some discussion the BOG voiced their support along with
their encouragement to the Vice Commodore to
make an experienced best judgment choice in the
best interest of the Club.
Treasurer Report:
- Couch presented the Statement of Financial
Position for the month ended February 28, 2009
and was approved by the Board with minor corrections. He also introduced a plan for early payoff for the Property Managers residence. After a
brief BOG discussion the plan was unanimously
approved and the Treasurer was tasked to move
the plan forward.
Operations Report:
- Gibson reported that the 2009 Social Calendar
is complete and is ready to be published to the
entire fleet. Roger also reported that Joan has once
again agreed to take on the duties of Social Chair. A
special thanks to Joan for her continuous tireless
effort in this rarely noticed position.
Secretary Report: None
Yardmaster Report:
- Gronniger announced he has identified the non
member boat being stored within the clubs yard
space and that arrangements will be made for financial dissipation or to remove the boat from our
premises.
Harbormaster Report:
- Knox presented findings from the bid to repair
current docks and slip fingers. Scott Peppard Construction disclosed the job would take no less than
10 weeks and will be difficult to meet current
budget restrictions for this project. This project was
tabled for future discussion.
Old Business:
- Old Business has been covered within individual
BOG Reports.
New Business:
- The possibility of purchasing a new TV for the
Afterdeck, creative ideas for funding this idea has
been tabled for future discussions.
Member/Guest Forum:
- There was no guest in attendance who wished to
address the BOG.
Announcements:
- Next meeting: April 2 7:00 pm at Quincy’s
- BOG breakfast: March 17th

With the good fortune of fair
weather, work is underway at the
club. Please take an opportunity
to come out and see this improvement to our fine facility. This
phase of the project involved repair and improvement of the existing bag wall at the slip area.
This needed repair was done to
provide the required depth to
cover the new electrical conduits
installed last fall to serve the slips
and crane, as well as fill in the
slots cut in the roadways for the
conduits. 14 yards of concrete
were poured containing 3000 feet
of rebar. Over 1000 concrete bags
were placed with 2,000 square
feet of landscape fabric and five
truckloads of clay and topsoil.
This project could not have happened without the countless
hours of highly skilled volunteer
labor by the following club members: Allyn Lamb, John Guant, Rob Fresh, Vic Carter, Dale Kennedy, Gary
Shepard, John Mosley, Gary Cheatum, Tom Brown, and Rod Krehbiel. Thanks also to Nate Grusing of Nate's Service,
Cheney 540.0566 He was contracted to help us, and performed very well.
I would like to commend Patrick for his hard work, planning, and co-ordination of this project, bringing together
these people and materials to achieve another goal for our club.
Some work remains in the final grading and seeding of the areas. We are in need of a landscape tractor with tiller,
box blade, seeder. If anyone could donate help with this please contact Patrick or myself.

Soup Cook-off
The soup cook-off after the wet slip meeting march 8th was a great success. We had 24 varieties of soup and three
desserts. Thanks to all who participated and to everyone who came out!

the WVSC Club Area at El Dorado Lake, Kansas. It will be a SWAP MEET where you can buy, sell, trade, barter,
or give away your dearly beloved sailing paraphernalia, pieces, parts, and sundry items. So….when you are cleaning
out the boat, garage, attic or basement and find something Nautical, don’t pitch it; hang on to it. It might be worth
something to someone later in the year. Watch your newsletter and/or the website for more news about this event.
