Denita's passion for following a child's lead is contagious. Through 16 years of working with young children, she has learned that teaching isn't so much about showing and doing, as it is about stepping back, observing, and supporting. You will leave her session with a new appreciation for play and a fresh perspective on the value of trusting children to lead their learning. This keynote is filled to the brim with simple ideas for setting the environment for successful playbased, child-led learning. Denita shares steps she went through in order to put age-appropriate learning IN, and take her adult-ideas and plans OUT. Participants will leave this session refreshed, energized, and feeling empowered with valuable tools that will help them let PLAY COUNT, and educate the parents as well! Blog: http://blogs.dctc.edu/dawnbraa/ Signature: __________________________ Dawn Braa is an Early Childhood and Youth Develop- I am employed by: __ Head Start __ Family Child Care __ Center __ ECFE/ECSE __ School Age ___ Foster Care ___Parent __ Other This Year's Speakers These sessions meet Parent Aware requirements and have been approved through the Minnesota Center for Professional Development. Sadly, many programs can't just let children play. Early childhood professionals must PROVE learning is occurring in their programs. This workshop proves the value of play (dissecting play) and how to document that value. Through group discussions and sharing, participants will practice articulating the learning that is occurring during play, and more importantly, WHY that learning is so important for a young child's future academia. Developmentally appropriate practice will be at the forefront of this workshop. In addition, participants will explore roughly 30 stations where they can play, dissect, and take LOADS of ideas back to their programs. CDA# _2 & 8_ Core# _I & II_ "Enhancing Young Minds Through Signs: Songs and Stories" - Dawn Braa Participants will learn early childhood songs and stories using American Sign Language. Your group time will come alive through the use of sign. Guaranteed to provide you with content you can incorporate with children right away! CDA# _2_ Core# _II_ Friday Night Sudden Unexpected Infant Death/Abusive Head Trauma This class meets DHS Licensing training requirements for both Sudden Unexpected Infant Death (SUID) and Abusive Head Trauma (AHT). Content includes recommendations to reduce Sudden, Unexpected Infant Deaths (SUID) including: SIDS, suffocation, and other sleep related infant deaths; safe sleep environments; MN Child Care regulations related to safe sleep; as well as symptoms and consequences of abusive head trauma, risk factors for abusive head trauma; and strategies to use when stressed, angry, or frustrated. CDA# _1_ Core# _VI_ OR CACFP Training "Yes You Can!" - Krista Zeug With Federal Regulations requiring certain standards for commercial entrees, such as pizza, corn dogs, and chicken nuggets, we need to follow packaging that includes CN labels for those foods to be creditable. However, that can be very confusing and murky when going to the grocery store. We will demystify the process and make the program easy to understand and follow. Especially now, when there are so many fewer products available in the store with a CN label. In addition to this subject, we will be looking at mandatory training for the CACFP and there will be lots of interesting "bites" of information shared. CDA# _1_ Core# _VI_
